I'm enjoying 'Years and Years'. I think it's an interesting attempt to address some important ideas but within an accessible family drama. It fails when it does mostly because the issues are too foregrounded. The Thompson character is very disconcertingly reflective of today's reality of Farage, Robinson and co. I think the character is less Trump and more identifiable as in an English nationalist\fascist tradition of Mosley et al

Don Cherry in NYRB
mjazzg replied to Joe's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Thanks for posting. A good read and overview. This was the phrase that really made me wonder "the family traveled in a VW bus...which Cherry redesigned so that he could sit in the lotus position behind the wheel, using his hands to work the brakes" Great improvisation -
Has anyone got a copy of this they want to offload? Would like it to be as clean as possible. And yes, I do realise it's available on CD.

That's it indeed. There are some advantages of living here...

Root canal and extraction £62. Glad I'm not a performer and happy with roguishly inscrutable smile

Yeah, Hamer really stood out on the first listen, more so than Harriott himself. "Reg, give the bloke his trumpet back in one piece, will ya"
-
Indeed. I'm going for the gappy smile option...too old to care now

Yes, I was going to note something about the power of the music overcoming the 'limited' sound quality... I blame GP for the purchase of this, wine in hand watching Jazz 625 thinking "why haven't I got that Harriott LP?". The joy of internet shopping, with wine

I'm a big fan of those Family albums and a few of the others on that list. This makes me think I should head over to Spotify to check out the names I don't know. Always an education, John -
What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.

Which makes it even weirder as the album I'd been listening to previously was her 'Transfiguration'... -
I have no idea but I'm very keen to find out. Any Brown from that time will have me investigating. Another live release like the Giuffre perhaps

Thank you for posting this. I was wondering what to listen to, saw this and thought "why not?". Thoroughly enjoying it, Leon T, Flora P, I had no idea! Last time I listened to Santana was probably "Moonflower' or 'Abraxas' in 1976 or thereabouts....I had no idea they were this Jazzy. A revelation! -

I didn't know about Elixir. Now I do I may have to chase down a copy -
Understood. Just render away I saw Neneh most recently with The Thing. Have to say there wasn't much reminiscent of when I saw Cherry with Ward and Helias Glad she was good.

I wouldn't normally link to this site as I believe it transgresses Board rules but there's no longer a download link so I think it's OK to do so There's discussion of the concert etc in the comments and a mention of the release you linked to http://inconstantsol.blogspot.com/2018/06/don-cherry-universal-silence-berlin.html I also came across this

I'd seen it, assumed it was a boot and moved on but I am tempted.
