  1. Yusef Lateef - A flat, G flat and C [Impulse, Mono]
  2. I read that Haarla had a lot more to do with the arranging of those Vesala albums than she received credit for. Can't think of the source off hand but will post it if I can find it. Her releases on TUM are also highly recommended
  3. The Ensemble tracks sound great on Bandcamp. I'll definitely be investing in a hard copy as soon as. I'm saving the larger ensemble tracks until then!
  4. fascinating. As he says " I’m a lot of musicians in one musician ", just about sums it up for me
  5. Arve Henriksen - Towards Language [Rune Grammofon] not least because this city could do with beauty like this at the moment. I hope the O-board's London contingent and loved ones are safe today.
  6. So many fine solo recordings and without even mentioning Evan Parker, Anthony Braxton and Roscoe Mitchell (who each probably deserve a solo recordings thread to themselves), here's some great ones from my collection that get revisited often Peter Brotzmann - 14 Love Poems [FMP] Joseph Jarman - Sunbound Volume One [AECO] Famoudou Don Moye - Sun Percussion Volume One [AECO] Brother Malachi Favors Magoustous - Natural & Spiritual [AECO] Arve Henriksen - Sakuteiki [Rune Grammofon] Sabir Mateen - Ardla XXX [Rogue Art] Jerome Cooper - Unpredictability Of Predictability [About Time] Nicole Mitchell - Engraved In The Wind [Rogue Art] I'll second the Gunter Sommer, Marion Brown, Vinny Golia and Steve Coleman mentions above
  7. Love those Max clips. Thanks for posting
  8. Yes, I thought Osby too but was then surprised to see that 3-D Lifestyles was 1993. Surprisingly later than I remembered. Listening to it now for probably the first time in at least a decade. I can hear why I enjoyed when it came out.
  9. That Williamson album was a favourite when it first came out. Strong player who has been sadly underrecorded and from the other angle
  10. Julie Tippetts - Sunset Glow [Utopia] such a strong and early statement as a solo artist
  11. Me too now. Thanks Sidewinder! I missed out on the Impressed CD so this is the first time I've heard the music. Lovely stuff, fine sound indeed
  12. Marc Levin Ensemble - Songs Dances and Prayers [Centrifuga, 2017] lovely sounding Levin authorised reissue. Nice artwork repro and extra notes from Levin. A very nice update of an all time favourite the original of which is now a bit tired
  13. Wonderful experience each time I've seen them. They really are like no one else out there
  14. Thanks for the alert. Just placed my order whilst listening to Yusef Lateef - The Golden Flute (HMV Mono)
  15. Nice review of a very varied evening's music. The Homburger/Guy duet to start set a very high bar - such consummate music making that made a mockery of categories. I was taken and surprised by how frail Howard Riley appears. Hopefully the apparent discomfort is more in our eyes than in his experience. It was my first experience of his playing live and I was spellbound. I had been very impressed by Wickihalder when he stood in for the "allegedly" sulking/offended Watts at Oto and it was good to see this trio follow on from that impression. Niggli was a force of nature, both loud and soft, throughout the evening. It's great to see the venue so full but I do find that they can overlook the comfort levels whilst cramming in those extra twenty or so.
  16. RIP. I enjoy The ECM/Japo LPs and also European Jazz Sounds
  17. Listening to "Piano Song" now and it's a very strong recording and will be a good one to end with if that is indeed the case. The interview is fairly ambivalent as I read it. Seems to me that he feels a break is a positive move at the moment. He's left us enough very good music to listen to and as long as he pops over to London every now an again so be it.
  18. I very much hope this gets released, such a good line up. It will be good to hear Charig again I really enjoy the Bloc Thyristor releases that feature Pilz from a few years ago
  19. Very pleased to see more Tomeka Reid on the way
  20. The Necks - Unfold [Ideologic Organ] new label, same magnificence
  21. I was at the gig. It was a pretty astonishing evening's music so I'm very pleased to see this is on the horizon
  22. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Peel's collection didn't stay in the family. His son's on Radio 6 following in the parental footsteps the last I heard young Ms.Gustafsson's going to have a some interesting decisions to make when she's a fair bit older as I can't see Mats relinquishing any of that vinyl whilst he still has his wits about him
