  1. nice choices, might stretch the pocket a bit though. I didn't realise that "Axiom" was actually ever released on Sonet. Reminds me to get the recent Rune Grammofon. My favourite Sonets are some way from Red Rodney too
  2. One day I''ll track down a copy of that. An enticing line up, definitely
  3. Amir ElSaffar Rivers Of Sound - Not Two [New Amsterdam]
  4. "tear their face off" and Michael Jackson.
  5. that's a great batch to start 2018. Great to see Downes get a solo release
  6. Plus $14.99 shipping to the UK. Sorry Jason, I'm a big fan but that's just unjustifiable pricing. Real shame, would've bought most of the releases on the label at a more reasonable price.
  7. Paul Horn - House Of Horn [Dot]
  8. except mine's the Mono version. Purchased for Smith's contributions

    Jamie Branch

Maybe they feel the same about Evans and TBH too Count me a Branch fan so thanks for posting the above
  10. New York Art Quartet - Call It Art [Triple Point], LP 5 starting my listening of the set with the LP that reviews suggested was the weakest in SQ and focussed playing. Sounds pretty exciting to me - wish I'd been at Marzette Watts' loft for the party Gunther Schuller and George Russell - Modern Jazz Concert [Columbia, Adventures In Sound]
  11. That really must sound good as, inspired by your post, I'm now listening to the original and it's sounding very nice indeed. Such a great album L'Etau - Choses Clandestines [Disques Bloc Thyristor], LP3. First spin from this set in an age. some very impressive Michel Pilz on this, ably assisted by Tippett, Rogers and Cognard
  12. there's a Japanese CD and it's also on this for some reason. https://www.discogs.com/The-Cecil-Taylor-Unit-Roswell-Rudd-Sextet-Mixed/release/1414797 Only possible reasoning is RR's appearance on one of the Taylor tracks
  13. that's got to make it doubly special
  14. Roswell Rudd - Everywhere [Impulse]
  15. Art Ensemble Of Chicago joined by Here In Now at Cafe Oto. No contest for my concert of the year
  16. That's classic Waits, one of my absolute favourites. On The Nickel a perfect Xmastime song I would very much like to hear that
  17. A very Merry Xmas to one and all. May you celebrate (or not) in a way that brings joy and happiness
  18. RIP RR. Thanks for the music
  19. that's a great shame. Always enjoyed what he played in whatever context I've only just, yesterday, ordered the "Call It Art" box as a Xmas present to self - it will be a poignant listen now
  20. World's Experience Orchestra - The Beginning OF A New Birth [Now Again]
  21. Thanks for your insights, Larry. From a big distance, that idea of co-operation and mutual assistance comes across strongly on disc. Whilst I can't put a finger on it I also hear a "sound", not rigid or restrictive in any way, one that never seems to lose a "groove" no matter how free it goes. It's no coincidence i think that some of my favourite musicians from the scene are drummers - Chad Taylor, Tim Daisy, Michael Zerang, Mike Reed, Frank Rosaly, Makaya McCraven ao.
  22. Looks like someone's been following this thread https://www.theguardian.com/film/filmblog/2017/dec/21/die-hard-christmas-movie-bruce-willis
