  1. Another informative review, Leeway, thank you. Love the chewing gum story. I can just hear EP's voice making that request. My Wooley/Parker/Cymerman's just arrived so very much looking forward to digging into it. Also awaiting a parcel from Nate from his recent great value sale off his website. Hopefully more intriguing and often fearless explorations Have to disagree with you about Wooley's Clean Feeds - far from MOR to these ears. Great writing and playing to be had on them. Nice to see a Van Morrison reference in the review too, goes down well in this parish
  2. The Dedication Series VIII - The New Breeed [impulse] tremendous to discover some new to me Grachan Moncur on this compilation
  3. Just that description alone has got me very tempted
  4. Where'd you take my photo, Bev? That's 'Spirits Rejoice!' I'm listening to....
  5. Thanks for the reviews, Leeway and Steve, glad you both enjoyed it. Sounds great. I'd love to hear EP with Sorey. In fact I'd just love to here Sorey live again (just the once with Lehman's Octet). McPhee's here for an EP 70th birthday gig later in the year - you've whetted my appetite for that
  6. You could have had my vinyl! I only use the CD now. One of my favourite Oguns (though be aware they have the titles on side 2 reversed on the LP cover - not that that will affect listening pleasure). Now he tells me! Happy to house any other redundant Oguns
  7. Harry Miller Quintet - "Down South" [Vara Jazz]
  8. Louis Moholo Octet - Spirits Rejoice! [Ogun] today's arrival, rejoice indeed!
  9. I don't want to be snarky about this but ... it's just irritating. Just is. No shit this is on Blue Note, and big surprise it's streaming on NPR. I woke up cranky, but really, this is dumb. I'm not too sure what's 'dumb'. My post? The concept of Moran, Meshell and Bandwagon together? The concept of the album or the music itself. It's on Blue Note because Moran's been signed to them for a couple of album's worth already As soon as I heard it I thought this would create strong reactions - the groove and the musical style seems to do so especially amongst keepers of the Jazz flame (not referring to colinmce here). I'd expected comments about 'popularism' and maybe comparisons to Glasper's recent work. I like what Moran does and i like what Ndgeocello does (most of the time) so I'm hanging in. I'll be giving it some more listens not least because like Xybert I tend to find longer listening to Moran pays dividends.
  10. Thanks for posting. Moran and Ndgeocello, an intriguing combination indeed. Bandwagon on board too I'll be interested to see how this is received.
  11. My order's in. I've listened to a bit of the accompanying MP3 version and it's certainly sounds good. I like Saft's keyboards they've got a nice depth to them
  12. John Stevens - Spontaneous Music Ensemble aka Oliv {Polydor Standard] Spontaneous Music Ensemble - Birds of a Feather [bYG]
  13. John Stevens - Re Touch [View] w. Alan Holdsworth, Jeff Young, Barry Guy, Ron Matthewson
  14. Frank Wright - One for John [Affinity] Today's arrival. Almost ashamed to admit it's my first FW leader date. Muhammed Ali's all over it, in a great way. Knock out stuff, will not be my last.
  15. Make that cult following two. Best BN cover ever too (big claim)
  16. Interesting thoughts indeed. Certainly I'd have to agree about Motian who is one of the free-est drummers I've heard whether he's playing Free Jazz or not. Another musician who seems similarly to be missed from the story is Jimmy Giuffre. There are people on this board that know a lot more about this history than me, many of whom witnessed it first hand so I'll defer to them for their observations with interest
  17. What a treat that will be. Good to see something like this being programmed. Shows an understanding of the span of creative genius in his career
  18. Cecil McBee - Mutima [strata East]
  19. That's a nice list colinmce. Most of them I know and enjoy too but I'll be looking out for the following a lot more closely off the back of this list The Resonance Ensemble - What Country Is This? Ran Blake - All That is Tied Irene Schweizer - To Whom It May Concern Paul Flaherty/Steve Swell/C Spencer Yeh/Weasel Walter - Dragonfly Breath
  20. Charles Tolliver - Paper Man [Arista Freedom]
  21. Konstrukt/Marshall Allen - Live at Sant'Anna Arresi Jazz Festival [8mm Records]
  22. Would he be the Tim Green that recorded with Dennis Gonzalez? If so, I enjoy his work on 'Hymn For The Perfect Heart Of A Pearl' and especially on 'Renegade Spirits'. So his name is heard across the Atlantic. RIP whether I knew his playing or not
  23. Me too. Fine music but my LP's not been well cared for by a previous owner
  24. Theo Jorgensmann Quartett - Straightout! [Europhon]
  25. Pilz/Niebergall/Schmitt - Celeste [Trion]
