  1. Arthur Blythe - Blythe Spirit [CBS] revisiting after many years and I'm pleased I have, been too long. Such a great ensemble sound irrespective of some arresting solos
  2. Giving it the first spin now. Fans of the previous albums will not be disappointed I suspect. Writing's as strong as previously and they swing the tunes hard
  3. The one time I saw Steve Lacy the musician that stood out and whose solo I still remember was J J Avenel. His appearance on a recording was a guarantee of quality for me from that night on
  4. David Murray & Low Class Conspiracy - Vol.1 Penthouse Jazz [Circle Records]
  5. David Murray Quartet - Last of the Hipman [Red Record]
  6. Absolutely! Made my day colinmce, thanks for that great news. I'll be interested to see what difference IH-F makes on bass. one of my favourite bands of recent years...can't wait edit to add: just placed my order with Delmark's UK distributor - Yes!
  7. 'Oliv' is a very special recording indeed. The extra material makes this a definite 'must have' for me
  8. I didn't realise that. I've often wondered whether 'Let The Music Take You' is worth tracking down. As I enjoy 'Hipman' you may have answered my question, thank you
  9. My all time favourite Bley. Stupendous record. Just put it on, thanks for the 'suggestion'

    Norah Jones

More farewells than Sinatra. The Comeback Tour's usually fun, book now FWIW I really enjoyed the first Norah Jones album as singer-songwriter with a dash of jazz. Enjoyed her later efforts less as that dash diappeared - that is what this thread's about, isn't it?
  16. Leo Cuypers' Heavy Days - Are here again [bvhaast]
  17. Luther Thomas Creative Ensemble - Funky Donkey [Circle Records]
  18. Re: Curson, The New Thing & The Blue Thing on Atlantic is easy to find and good. The Marge and Futura records are also strong, and the Whynot/Trio LP (Blue Piccolo) is okay. I'm not as big a fan of Plenty of Horn or the Prestige record - they're all right, nice dates, but he hadn't grown into Ted at that point. Thanks Clifford
  19. Ted Curson Quartet - Urge [Fontana/Japan]. What a great album I only have the two Fontana Cursons but they definitely make me want to hear more....recommendations anyone? meanwhile I'm making do with... Charles Mingus - Presents Charles Mingus [Candid], hardly a chore congrats! Seconded!
  20. Don Cherry & the Jazz Composer's Orchestra - Relativity Suite [JCOA]
  21. The Ballad Album.....?
  22. Pharoah & the Underground - Primative Jupiter [Clean Feed] with Rob Mazurek, Pharoah Sanders, Chad Taylor, Matthew Lux, Mauricio Takara, Guiherme Granado first spin. first impressions are good music let down by seemingly muddy live recording
  23. Try before you buy on Spotify (UK at least)
