  1. I'm certainly not a computer guru but I did buy this one for a volunteer at my workplace who needs to use Dragon. It worked well enough.although after 18 months (one day a week usage) it did begin to fall apart. Maybe no surprise given its low cost http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000WFX5RI/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  2. A Shepp afternoon..... African Moods w. Jeanne Lee [Circle] A Sea of Faces [black Saint] Bijou [Musica Records] Mariamar [Horo] a varied listen across all four. Each with differing elements to recommend them.
  3. I'll join the chorus of approval for the latest one too
  4. Who is Ramon Lopez? Btw listening now again to disc 4 of Mad Dogs box with Parker Guy Lytton with Fernandez Mind bending Best Evan Parker tenor on record in quite some time - the ending to the first 24 minute section is beyond what should be possible. Even more than his standard casual brilliance. Lopez? a fantastic drummer who you will enjoy investigating. http://www.ramonlopez.net/ This trio is amazing, not as out there as some may imagine but with a shared understanding that can take breath away (yes that good) - check out Morning Glory on Maya. Big thanks to Blue Train for highlighting what I guess is their new release - I'm straight off to track it down
  5. today's arrival Binder Quartet featuring John Tchicai [Krém] followed by Evan Parker & Joe McPhee - What/If/They could fly [Rune Grammofon]
  6. I very nearly bought a copy of that yesterday and didn't. Did I make a mistake? Hmmm... depends on how much it was. It's very good, if you're not turned off by the idea of alto sax (or bass clarinet) duets. And my copy sounds good; it's a very quiet pressing. It's not the Tchicai record I would take to a desert island, but it's good music and worth having. Thanks Jeff. Price was Ok and I'm happy with the duets but it was my ignorance of Goldbeek that made my hold back. Sounds like it might be worth reinvestigating
  7. I very nearly bought a copy of that yesterday and didn't. Did I make a mistake?
  8. Listening to Lennox AB right now and hoping that Mr Blythe is able to find comfort and respite at home. Thanks for highlighting the donation possibilty. Maybe folk could donate what they would pay for that "wish list" Mosaic? Blue Train - just wondering whether it might be worth considering changing the Thread title to highlight the donation possibility. Many may not look if they think it's a show they're unable to attend geographically. just a thought
  9. Any satisfied purchasers of this yet? I've held off as i have enough of it already but I am interested to hear what folk are making of the previously unissued content, Vassar Sessions and the pre-Nation Time concert recordings
  10. You've gotta get your hands on I've Known Rivers w/ James Newton & Abdul Wadud I'll take note of that, thanks for the suggestion. I think that whole cohort of Anthony Davis, James Newton, Jay Hoggard, et al, may deserve more attention than they have received. Newton's first, Flute Music, on his own Flute Music Productions label, is very nice. Didn't know of that one. Looks interesting line-up and instrumentation. $50 means it'll have to be very interesting though I'm not sure of the going rate for this LP (the Anthony Davis one-- or did you mean the Newton? Don't know about that one) , I think it's usually found cheaper. I picked up my own copy in Philly for $1.00 in a bargain bin, probably because the spine of the LP jacket was scuffed (vinyl quite fine). I meant the James Newton 'Flute Music' - too many posts quoted to avoid confusion, apologies. The Davis I have but paid more than $1 ! James Newton/David Murray - Solomon's sons [Circle]
  11. James Newton Trio/Quartet - Binu [Circle]

  13. I'm a big fan of Delbecq and have enjoyed a lot of Blaser so this trio looks like a winner
  14. I need to check out more of his stuff. Any one in particular? I was listening to 'Hera' on Multikulti when I posted. More recent 'Stone Fog' is good too, slightly more restrained
  15. Waclaw Zimpel is another player of bass clarinet that always makes me sit up and listen closely
  16. thanks for posting. enjoyed reading her responses
  17. MG, I've just searched Spotify for 'Rev Johnny Lee 'Hurricane' Jones' and ''THE MAL WALDRON SESSION - 36-40' as worded in your post and nothing comes up for me. This may come as some relief if not lessen the confusion but looks like it might be reading yor hard drive locally enabling you to search their database and yours simultaneously? edit: to add that Daniel A's post beat me to it with far more knowledge too
  18. Alex, it would appear that our memories serve us right (for a change in my case) http://www.discogs.com/J-Spaceman-and-Matthew-Shipp-SpaceShipp/release/1625394
  19. I've had the Mitchell for a couple of days and I'm thoroughly enjoying it however it's almost designed for me as flute/vibes is a line up that would be close to the top of my list and Mitchell and Adasiewicz top of each instrumnets' 'must hear' players. There's some strong writing on the album and the playing's as good as you'd expect. I doubt you'll be disappointed I was blown away by Nicole Mitchell's performance on Harris Eisenstadt's Golden State album and made a mental note to check her music out further but kind of forgot about it. Stumbled across this album and just about couldn't think of a more perfect line up. Couldn't resist ordering it; had to divert some money i'd put aside for pre-orders for albums coming out in December but i've still got time to skip some meals between now and then. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPQFq9oMz98 You'll not regret your hunger - it's a marvellous album. I need to get Golden State
  20. I imagine you mean either the Live disc mentioned above by A lark ascending or the Songs & Themes album. I will give them a try. I imagine I will like them. It is I thought so. But I can imagine the duo from Spring Heel Jack crossing over into jazz territory easier than Jason Pierce from Spacemen 3. Anyway, he's always been really out, out. I think I remember a very cool trio a few years back with J Spaceman, Steve Noble on drums and Matthew Shipp on Farfisa... I played a few times at their Red Rose nights - 'Back in Your Town', they were called...some fun gigs for sure! Isn't that Shipp farfisa/Spaceman a recording somewhere? A dim memory suggests so 'Back in Your Town' was always an interesting and fun evening from the audience too
  21. I was there. My first exposure to live performance of Feldman and first exposure to that piece. Still trying to fully absorb
  22. I'm too slow at that time to notice....
  23. It is
  24. Coxon/Wales made a pot of money remixing Everything But The Girl then took that left turn. Wales used to progamme a weekly night at the lamented Red Rose Club that was always worth checking out - a marvellous free jazz "concerto" for Paul Rutherford was a highlight. I think all the Blue Series albums are worth a listen. There's one, 'Live' with Matthew Shipp, Han Bennink, William Parker and Evan Parker that is a recording of a date on a tour of which I attended a fantastic London gig. Coxon and Wales are/were behind the Treader label. Wales seems not to be about on the London scene any more but Coxon is about playing with the likes of Wadada Leo Smith last year edit to say I've just spotted Live amongst the covers in OP
