Thoroughly enjoyed this programme about someone I knew absolutely nothing. A nice insight into the keeping alive of the tradition (is that 'conservative? ) and at the same time adding to it with original contributions. Another sale of Penguin Eggs imminent.

I bought one Heavenly Sweetness and whilst it didn't sound quite as full as the equivalent Liberty pressing it sounded good enough for non-audiophile listening. I didn't realise there was a book. It was/is a very good exhibition at Dulwich Picture Gallery where I obviously didn't visit the shop on the way out

Today's the official release date. Two listens in and I think this is just great. The enhanced band brings a real depth to the sound which really works for me. It's definitely a development from the quintet albums with some interesting writing for the bigger band with a brassier overall sound. Maybe some may feel it's trading spikiness for melody but I simply hear good writing, great playing and an interesting step forward for Ms Halvorson. This is going to played a lot

what evidence for Iyer's amateur status? Seems to me he earns a living from his music wich puts him in mind on the professional side of the line. Maybe your use of 'amateur' was perjorative in which case why not back it up with some evidence (not opinion) rather than leave it hanging there

interesting indeed. I've not caught up with Yells for a few releases. I'm a big fan of Gonzalez but less so of that band. I'd like to hear the Evans/Parker as maybe it'll be the one where I finally 'get' Evans who I find is someone who's undoubted technique gets in the way of my enjoyment of most of what I've already heard (exception the live MOPDTK)

that's a great photo. I've had the pleasure of witnessing many of his performances and this photo does much to encapsulate them - thanks for posting I hope those that make it to The Stone enjoy what looks like an astonishing residency

New Matana Roberts on the way. Second Chapter of Coin Coin.http://cstrecords.com/cst098/ I am very excited by this as I thought Chapter One was a very powerful work (with thanks to Uli for postng the news about Ms Roberts being on the cover of latest Wire which sent me off on a search)

what with Rob Mazurek last month and now this.edition has articles on Ms Roberts, The Necks and ECM I guess the article is tied in with a new release, maybe another instalment of Coin Coin

Thanks so much for posting this. His "Ballad of the Fallen" was instrumental in my discovery of Jazz. We don't get the likes of Charlie interviewd in UK so it's great to hear him speak - seems a lovely man who bears his incapacities lightly

Beware some are some way out of town but any with a postcode that starts E, N, S, W and combinations thereof with lower numbers afterwards are more likely more central. I hope they have a great trip
