  2. That reissue's price is creeping up it would appear. I had a stream and hear what you mean, bet it's on the Thurston list? Now playing, diametrically opposed The Herbie Mann/Sam Most Quintet [London Records, UK 1957] The vinyl is in absolutely pristine condition which considering its age is pretty amazing. Definitely for flute lovers only

  4. I've never got on with Freeman, always sounds to me like he fits too easily into whatever scenario he's playing in, a technician definitely but no real personality. Even on the McBee Enjas, which I do like, he seems not too convincing. I had 'Kings Of Mali' for a long time but sold it on, even with Hoggard on it, because it left me cold. Which is the best description of how I find his playing, even when ostensibly fiery. I know lots of other folk disagree and I'm happy to admit it's a blind(deaf?)-spot for me
  5. Never heard it, chaos and malignancy? The big sell... Currently available for just £800 at London based seller!
  6. How's Fiona doing now? A few weeks ago the reports were of her being very under the weather I seem to remember I envy your attendance at the Neil shows, I didn't get to see him until the tour with the MGs I like Matt Wilson so will see if this is streamable over here
  7. I upgraded from my old beloved DMM to NY ear last year, quite a leap
  8. Yep, arrived today. The latest instalment in my recent Norma binge. On first acquaintance I prefer the side of Damiani compositions over the one of Wheeler's, perhaps because I know the Kenny's in other versions.

  13. Streaming this now, lovely. I need some Soul with my Blues, I struggle with it undiluted. But this is just the mix I'm looking for. I realise that after all my years of listening to and loving (earlier) Van Morrison I want to hear the source.
  14. Yes it is. I bought this album after hearing a tune on the radio and have not been disappointed. I have subsequently been investigating his other albums but none seem to stand up to this one. Any suggestions gratefully received.

  18. See the original post... seems the motivation was to break it out of that thread I'm very happy having a separate soul/RnB thread avoids some jarring juxtapositions in the Rock thread
