  1. I upgraded from my old beloved DMM to NY ear last year, quite a leap
  2. Yep, arrived today. The latest instalment in my recent Norma binge. On first acquaintance I prefer the side of Damiani compositions over the one of Wheeler's, perhaps because I know the Kenny's in other versions.
  3. Wiley Kano Burial
  4. Winstone, Wheeler, Fresu, Taylor, Damiani & Oxley - Live At Roccella Jonica [Ismez Polis Music, Italy 1985]
  5. Hot Chocolate Tony Kofi Jack Teagarden
  6. I need to get that one I think
  7. Streaming this now, lovely. I need some Soul with my Blues, I struggle with it undiluted. But this is just the mix I'm looking for. I realise that after all my years of listening to and loving (earlier) Van Morrison I want to hear the source.
  8. Yes it is. I bought this album after hearing a tune on the radio and have not been disappointed. I have subsequently been investigating his other albums but none seem to stand up to this one. Any suggestions gratefully received.

  12. See the original post... seems the motivation was to break it out of that thread I'm very happy having a separate soul/RnB thread avoids some jarring juxtapositions in the Rock thread

  15. More Chet... Chet Baker - And Strings [Phillips, UK 1955]
  16. That's good to hear, my favourite Jackie on the days when others aren't 🙃
  17. Chet Baker, Jim Hall, Hubert Laws - Studio Trieste [CTI, USA 1982] always hits the spot
  18. I've been drinking decaf only, for health reasons, for nearly twenty years and it's proven really hit and miss, mostly miss but has improved a lot recently. In the last few years as the coffee culture has really taken off here I've found some very nice decaf from the smaller roasteries, these are likely not exporting - Pilgrim, Mission, U Roast. I can't believe there aren't similar small independent outfits doing the same near you. The way I found each of these was asking when I was served a good take away or drink in decaf which beans were used. Before this my staple was Lavazza decaf Also, I'd say it's not heresy. There can be a bit of snobbery about decaf definitely but my experience has always been that in coffee drinking cultures in Europe decaf is more or less readily available and often more than half decent. Thankfully that's now increasingly reflected in the UK market too

    BFT 246

Thanks for the great commentary, makes me want to listen to my selection again with your comments in mind. I'm glad you found things to enjoy (and thanks for your assistance in getting the BFT 'published'). You're not the first to fnd the selection front-loaded in its delights.
  20. Luke Stewart Silt Trio - Unknown Rivers [Pi Recordings, USA 2024] Brian Settles!
  21. That's a shame, Maze were big on the Soul scene here for a while
  22. I don't have that one, I do have a couple of others of Rosewoman's from that vintage that I like a lot Gunther Klatt & Elephantrombones - Live At Jazztage Leverkusen [Enja, Germany 1988] Picked this up dirt cheap and it's a really interesting listen, especially if you like trombone sections...four trombonists on this. Some lovely writing and orchestration
