  1. That's good to hear, my favourite Jackie on the days when others aren't 🙃
  2. Chet Baker, Jim Hall, Hubert Laws - Studio Trieste [CTI, USA 1982] always hits the spot
  3. I've been drinking decaf only, for health reasons, for nearly twenty years and it's proven really hit and miss, mostly miss but has improved a lot recently. In the last few years as the coffee culture has really taken off here I've found some very nice decaf from the smaller roasteries, these are likely not exporting - Pilgrim, Mission, U Roast. I can't believe there aren't similar small independent outfits doing the same near you. The way I found each of these was asking when I was served a good take away or drink in decaf which beans were used. Before this my staple was Lavazza decaf Also, I'd say it's not heresy. There can be a bit of snobbery about decaf definitely but my experience has always been that in coffee drinking cultures in Europe decaf is more or less readily available and often more than half decent. Thankfully that's now increasingly reflected in the UK market too

    BFT 246

Thanks for the great commentary, makes me want to listen to my selection again with your comments in mind. I'm glad you found things to enjoy (and thanks for your assistance in getting the BFT 'published'). You're not the first to fnd the selection front-loaded in its delights.
  5. Luke Stewart Silt Trio - Unknown Rivers [Pi Recordings, USA 2024] Brian Settles!
  6. That's a shame, Maze were big on the Soul scene here for a while
  7. I don't have that one, I do have a couple of others of Rosewoman's from that vintage that I like a lot Gunther Klatt & Elephantrombones - Live At Jazztage Leverkusen [Enja, Germany 1988] Picked this up dirt cheap and it's a really interesting listen, especially if you like trombone sections...four trombonists on this. Some lovely writing and orchestration
  8. Sadao Watanabe - Sadao Watanabe [CBS/Sony, Japan 1972]
  9. Thought you would have done, it's a good discovery
  10. Yusef Lateef - The Blue Yusef [Atlantic, USA 1968 RE] Curtis Amy, Cornell Dupree - Katanga! [Fontana, UK 1963] Yes, I'm a Wilson fan too
  11. Time for some Jazz harpsichord... Michael Garrick Septet - Black Marigolds [Argo, UK 1966 Stereo] Earl Anderza - Outa Sight [Fontana, Netherlands, 1963] First listen, there will be lots more. I do love the fact that after listening to Jazz for 30+ years there's still albums like this to discover. love the "tartness" of his tone.
  12. @HutchFan did you enjoy it? I bought a copy recently and really enjoy it. A hidden Norma gem I think that's a really good album As is that, an old favourite
  13. Bernd Alois Zimmermann - Die Befristeten etc [Wergo, Germany 1972 RE] Spontaneous Music Ensemble - Eighty-Five Minutes Part 1 [Emanem, UK 1986]
  14. I hope the Fieldwork listing hints at an album and accompanying tour to include the UK of course. Otherwise it's my annual "if only" comment, another enticing list

No, not Pat who does indeed sport a fine hat. Although I could happily do an entire BFT of his recordings, not sure it would be too popular beyond you and me though...
  17. Yes, this was a shock when it broke yesterday. I remember seeing him often in the 90s into 00s at the old Vortex and less often since it seems.
  18. Folk like a museum piece
  19. Patrice Rushen - Prelusion

    Tim Green

That looks interesting. His playing on Gonzalez albums always made me sit up and notice
  21. I might be tempted but only when the Director's Cut is issued without Sting's ridiculously anachronistic blonde hairstyle
  22. Rebop Kwaku Baah Steve Winwood Muffin the Mule
  23. Paris Hilton Peter Shilton Aram Shelton
  24. Charlie Mariano Rocky Marciano Pat Martino
