It's not von Schlippenbach and I absolutely understand why it could have been. I suspect the actual pianist would enjoy the comparison.

    Evan Parker

It's relatively new, located geographically close to EP I think. They have already released a couple of discs by him

    Evan Parker

Can the world have too much solo Evan Parker? I tend to believe not so I'm happy to see this announcement https://evanparkerfw.bandcamp.com/album/the-heraclitean-two-step-etc
  5. I didn't know that about Lee, I did know he's a big Evan believer. Glad it's found such a loving home! I hear Topography and Karyobin as ying and yang in a way, two sides of the UK scene at the time. Stevens always seems slightly removed from the more demonstrative approach as on Topography. Both complete classics notwithstanding. I should listen to them again, back to back and probably discover what I've just written is a load of bunkum...
  6. Hope it's living up to expectations!
  7. Thanks, I'll do likewise. I like his composition so it might be right up my street

    BFT 246

The pianist is relatively well known to this forum
  9. Still to track that one down, what do you make of it?
  10. Charles Mingus - Blue Bird [America Records, Japan 1978 RE] This session has such a quiet authority, no great Mingus-ian fireworks present or needed.

  12. Maxine Peake Rees Topley The High Llamas
  13. Chris Barber The Scissor Sisters Ruben Blades
  14. Tom Verlaine Richard Lloyd Lloyd Cole
  15. That needs listening to on a regular basis, should come on prescription really
  16. Yes, that's my impression. Camilla Nebbia? Wow!! She is something else. She depped for an unwell McPhee with Decoy a couple of weeks ago at Oto. She definitely has it all there, held her own with a trio that has played together for 20 years or so. Great sound, great facility and can she improvise too. A revelation. Also, absolutely with you on Lao Dan. Only heard recordings though, has he played in NYC?
  17. Heroes, one and all
  18. I saw one of those in London, fantastic experience
  19. That is a great line up Interesting comment, I've not seen JBL live but from his recordings I completely understand where you're coming from Steve. I like his playing but he does play a lot

No apology required, thanks so much for taking the time in a busy month to give this selection a spin and then to leave such enjoyable commentary. Thanks also for spotting Evan, he had to be included in any BFT I did, he's scared off most listeners, but not all, up to this point. And you hit upon the theme, tangentially.
  21. Didn't Duchamp give up art for a while to concentrate on chess? Sure I remember that from a biography
  22. Now that was a Jazz life, what a legacy
  23. Just beautiful Thanks for the link. Think I'll jump for the download now, physical is costly to get to the UK. Maybe it will get distribution
