  1. Interesting selection there. I saw the Cherry Thing live and they were good. That Cohran looked interesting on release as did the Mitchell/Mitchell but samples of the latter made it sound very studied and missing some of Nicole Mitchell's usual vitality - I know samples are no way of assessing the release effectively but needs must. I'll admit total ignorance when it comes to the Pyramids but their appearance in London this year caused quite a stir Anyone heard this yet? Got a dream line up as far as I'm concerned and an intriguing premise
  2. Thanks for the clarification JSngry I think it's a fine idea for a thread especially as there's so many threads about reissues, past issues and the like on the board. I like the idea of a place to throw about recommendations and information about a living, vital and often 'below the radar' slice of music-making. As JSngry suggests a pitfall " the thread might get so crowded that thread readership becomes kind of "locked in" ". Well yeah, but I could list a heap of threads where that's the case - threads become the focus for some very specific subjects and audiences, not necessarily a bad thing for those enjoying discussing the minutiae of a particular reissue Threads about just one title often draw to a close once a few contributors have their say but in this broader thread that can still happen but also potentially intersect with other such conversations. Let's post on! and in that spirit I'll list a couple of other very interesting releases River Loam Trio (No Business) Gustafsson/Russell/Strid - Birds (denrecords)
  3. OK....so for those of us that haven't been about so long.....what's with all the rats? they seem to be highjacking a sound thread. Enlightenment?
  4. Yes - from Jazz Loft. How is it? Great IMHO. I've always been a big Vandermark "fan". How does the Resonance band writing compare/differ to his writing for say Vandermark 5 or work with Territory Band? Been toying with getting this. I find the first an intensely fascinating listen and I'm not sure I've completely absorbed it even now. Does 'Uniion' follow much the same path?
  5. Exactly why I started this thread! I salivated at the thought but had no idea there was a record. Thanks. Dive in without hestitation. It was everything I wanted it to be. I'm vey impressed by JA in every context and he plays very well in this context
  6. what a great thread - could be costly! I'd spotted the two Clean feed's in Colinmce's op too - particularly intrigued by that Revis as I enjoy all the players in seperate situations I'll add a recent one that's well worth a listen Peter Brötzmann & Jason Adasiewicz Going All Fancy Brö-E CD through Eremite Brotzmann?/Asadiewicsz
  7. Extremely lame, huh? There might be people who don't have these yet ... and I guess quite a few, as the Columbia albums' reputation ain't the finest. What I would enjoy though would be a companion box containing the albums as originally released. Count me as one of those people, thanks for standing up for us Ubu. This set might just be what makes me plug that particular gap
  8. Just what i didn't want to hear. The "selling fast" bit, that is. I saw that band a couple of years ago and they were excellent.Fully intend to purchase this budget (and now availability) willing. I'm a big fan of their Reknes recording on Circulasione Totale
  9. Thanks colin and kh. I'm a fan of jazz flute, Newton, Rivers, Kenyatta amongst others and Threadgill definitely so I think I may plug the gap
  10. Yep...you do! How's the Flutistry disc folks? it's the only one in the box i've not got
  11. first listen to a new arrival. Track 'Donna Lee' has the most abrupt fade, make that cut off (sounds like the band fell off a cliff) I've heard in a long while. Enjoying Pete Warren's contributions
  12. Original or was this reissued? Original or was this reissued? Mine's the original but I believe it got a Get Back reissue
  13. with Arthur Jones - a very big bonus
  14. Peter Brotzmann Chicago tentet +1 - 3 nights in Oslo five discs, two of the tentet+1, the other three a variety of configurations from the tentet personnel (saw this band in London earlier this week - stunning)
  15. mjazzg

    Anthony Braxton

Thanks very much for posting this. looking forward to hearing it
  16. More likely that people who never wanted it before got it anyway when it went last chance... and they'll be enjoying a very rewarding musical surprise.....when they open the box
  17. I had to look twice but he's selling empty boxes for $$$ more than CDs - now that's what I call high pricing Would like Waldron's the Call that's listed at $20 cheaper than some of the empty boxes!
  18. Another great gone. Sublime singer, great live performer and songwriting par excellence. Leaves a big void. Thank you and RIP TC
  19. BBC broadcasting tribute tomorrow (monday) night http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01nj80g should be available for a week after on their iplayer service
  20. Now that does look interesting. i know Stahl from a couple of dates and Ljungkvist too - both interesting players. I'm intrigued by your Giuffre reference. Off to see what I can find....
  21. now that's the one No Business LP I have splashed out on. No regrets, lovely recording and great music
  22. reacquainting after 10 year absence in storage. could do without the hokey blues number - the rest, magnificent Really fancy that one and the tarfala on the same label - just wish they were a bit more affordable
  23. Hamiet Bluiett - Birthright. Copy sounds fine (occasional pop that I can live with so such great music) then we hit the quietest track and it's like the alien's are beaming in a signal - why wreck just the one track so much? Vinyl betrays no inkling of alien interference.
  24. yes, yes and yes again (mind you I don't even like the majority of them performed by the Beatles)
