Do You like to show off your Blue Note collection?
alocispepraluger102 replied to Tjazz's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
i doubt if you tube has long enough segments to display (appropriately) the collections of many, if not most, organissimo members. throwing these documents of peoples lives and art around like bags of garbage most would consider obscene. -

Monastery...if you think that jazz was supposed to be "brothel music"...a big leap... I am not really sure wich I prefer...between monastery and brothel, I mean a much younger aloc encountered a hometown priest or two, casually attired, during his many infrequent visits to the local brothel of that day. the two venues arent THAT unrelated. the music, blues, generally sucked. -

cadence, most particularly slim at cadence, has found me some great recordings over the years. cadence magazine has been essential in hooking me up with some titles i would never have known existed. i dont know about their prices. when you really want something, you buy it. -

John Surman, Quartet San Francisco

i love surman's music of the past 35 years. much of it smells and feels like a monastery. among my fav surman's are a quartet or two with paul bley from long long ago. those tend to bring him somewhat out of the monastery. -
What vinyl are you spinning right now??

I have so many of his LPs but this has eluded me. How is it? Any exotica content or anything out of the ordinary? it has les brown's energy and winterhalter's continental touch, plus a puente chart. the great variety of moods and textures are so real, they suck you in. i would suggest you continue searching for the vinyl, for it's an excellent recording. playing the vinyl adds to the romance and magic of this music. it's great music to put on when you are spiffing up a little extra for a fancy night on the town. it's energetic, familiar as an old friend, yet fresh as the morning dew. -

It goes without saying that the name Frank Kimbrough defines taste, musicianship, and musical integrity. Air, pianist Frank Kimbrough's brand new release on Palmetto, is difficult to think of as a recording. Air is a series of 9 extemporaneous interpretations of compositions that fascinate Frank which were recorded to try out some new microphones at Palmetto's studios.. 4 of the pieces are fascinating, sensitive, interpretations of works by Duke(WigWise, from Money Jungle), Monk(Jackie-ing and Coming On The Hudson), and Paul Motian (It Should've Have Happened A Long Time Ago).. It Should Have Happened.., Air, Three Chords, and Jackie-ing, if they dont bring a tear to your eye, will certainly moisten it. Quickening, a Kimbrough favorite, and Ca'lina, on the other hand, heard early in the morning, will leave you in a carefree joyous mood the whole day. Coming On The Hudson has so many layers one could study it for hours. Every note fits and is essential. There are no needless piano gymnastics or runs. Kimbrough dedicates this recording to his recently departed close friends and mentors, Shirley Horn and Andrew Hill, and to the very much alive Paul Bley. Fans of Paul Bley and Bill Evans, among many many others, will consider Air by Frank Kimbrough essential listening.

January 4, 2008 NYC Couch Potato Contest Lasts 29 Hours By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Filed at 7:39 a.m. ET NEW YORK (AP) -- A Manhattan librarian emerged as a champion couch potato after three rivals gave in to sleep deprivation or nature's call. Stan Friedman won the ESPN Zone Ultimate Couch Potato Competition, which began Tuesday morning at the ESPN Zone restaurant in Times Square. The event ended Wednesday afternoon after more than 29 grueling hours of continuous sports viewing -- mainly college football bowl games and endless highlights loops. The four participants, sitting in recliners in front of a dozen 42-inch high-definition plasma televisions and a couple of 14-foot HD projection TVs, could order unlimited food and drinks, but they weren't allowed to go to sleep or leave their recliners except for restroom breaks once every eight hours. Friedman, a research librarian whose favorite sport is baseball, was declared the victor when runner-up Nate Lopez ran to the bathroom before the allotted break time. He won a $5,000 prize package including a huge TV, a cozy recliner and a trophy with a potato on it. ''I have a 350-square-foot apartment, so I don't know what I'll do with the TV,'' he said Thursday. ''But I'll make room for the recliner.''

January 3, 2008 Man Using GPS Drives in Front of Train By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Filed at 9:02 p.m. ET BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. (AP) -- A Global Positioning System can tell a driver a lot of things -- but apparently not when a train is coming. A computer consultant driving a rental car drove onto train tracks Wednesday using the instructions his GPS unit gave him. A train was barreling toward him, but he escaped in time and no one was injured. The driver had turned right, as the system advised, and the car somehow got stuck on the tracks at the crossing. He jumped out and tried to warn the engineer by waving. He got out of the way just before the train slammed into the car at 60 mph, Metro-North railroad spokesman Dan Brucker said Thursday. The car was pushed more than 100 feet during the fiery crash. Some 500 train passengers were stranded for more than two hours during the Wednesday evening rush hour. The accident also heavily damaged 250 feet of rail, Brucker said. The railroad said that the driver was issued a minor summons for obstructing a railroad crossing and that he and his rental company would be liable for the damage, estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
