  1. Sorry, John! I'm only joking, of course. The Merriam-Webster dictionary says (from the disk entry): http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book...tionary&va=disk
  2. If you're referring to that circular device which is used for storing music, I believe it's usually spelled with a "c". I agree with your last post. Nothing prevents such matters to be discussed in PM:s, though.
  3. Ubu, are you sure you didn't accidently click on 'I Agree to these terms and am under 13 years of age' when agreeing to the terms? Ben was really nice to me, and made no assumptions regarding my age. He greeted me with a friendly Welcome to Forums which I thought gave the message a very personal touch from the start. He then gave me some basic information regarding retrieval of my password in case I lost it, after which he rounded off the letter with a courteous Thank you for registering. -- Thanks, The Management I'm quite sure Ben came up with this all by himself. I mean, it couldn't just be one of these preset greeting letters in a message board software .
  4. I got the same pop-up log-in box as you, Claude. I just clicked on 'cancel' and got the same error message as you. However, when I clicked on the browser's 'back' button and reloaded the forum page I was nevertheless logged in. Did you others also get a confirmation email from ben@outsideline.co.uk upon registering to the forums? I tried to visit the outsideline.co.uk website, but I didn't understand what it was all about. It didn't seem to have much to do with Blue Note.
  5. I'm sure they're good, allthough I haven't heard them. (Incidentally, they're issued on Kullhammar's label) Of the participating musicians Per 'Texas' Johansson probably is my favorite. I'm curious, how did you get to know of Zetterberg?
  6. What records have you heard, Jim?
  7. I haven't seen Jonas Kullhammar around for a few years, unless he posts totally incognito. He pursues a rather successful carreer as a tenor saxophonist these days. 25 years old, he has several records as a leader on his own record label, and he has been voted as Swedish jazz musician of the year. He has quite an attitude which appeals to some, but doesn't work on others. From his days on the BNBB I can only remember him creating a stir by always asking two CDs for one of his in trades, and from name-dropping Cecil Taylor in a Fender Rhodes thread...
  8. Somehow I think it will take some time for those forums to gain a body of contributing members. Back to the original topic: What did you think of the Wynton sound clips? I'm not too enthusiastic.
  9. Sounds probable, Claude. How long is it now, eleven months?
  10. I've been thinking of this ever since your original post: Do you change stylus every 20th day??? After how many hours of playing do you consider a stylus too worn? Or do you mean that you change the whole turntable every 20th day?
  11. BTW, something has happened on the old BNBB site too. When I checked a few weeks ago, it still said 'Welcome Duke Pearson' (it was my handle), but now it just says 'Login' or 'Register', which of course is impossible. A pity; I had planned to click on 'Log out' before moving from Stockholm later this month, just to mark the end of an era. Did anyone ever try to log out? What happened?
  12. Hmm, does anyone from this board answer to the name of 'Jonas'...?
  13. All it contains so far is a 3+ year old 'Welcome' message and some spam (it appears you don't have to register to be able to post). I can see that the member is list is growing, though: http://www.bluenoteeurope.com/mb/memberlist.php However, I wouldn't spend a second over there which could be spent here. Just in case both Org and AAJ go down...
  14. By no means complete, but they have a good deal of nice, rare album covers, and even a message board: http://microgroove.jp/mercury/ Sorry if this has been mentioned earlier, but even if that's the case a little more exposure won't hurt anyone! (Also note that all cover scans come from this (Japanese) guy's own collection. Original pressings only...)
  15. I'm very sorry, Tom. My deepest condolences.
  16. Reflective in this case means that it reflects the sound waves it's exposed to. A non-reflective surface is acoustically damped in some way; it could be a bookshelf full of books, a drapery, etc.
  17. Jim, I don't know if you've changed the 'secret' address behind the fake eBay link, but if not so, you should perhaps change it to something more "innocent" so that noone accidently ends up there by clicking on the link in your message.
  18. I made the same discovery as Jim and did not click on the link. Besides, I can't recall having moved to Manitoba...
  19. I'm number nine, and I think it would be best for me to stay in that position, since I'm about to move to another part of the country in three weeks. I think I'll be ready to go in the beginning of March. Of course, I must have arranged some sort of Internet connection too; it would perhaps be less fun if I'm not able to monitor the guessing thread...
  20. Actually I can't see anything wrong with having a dialog in the "guessing" thread. If someone has posted an AMG link or something that clearly gives the answer away I won't go there, but I like to be able to comment on what other people think they hear. If we did this test sitting in a room together it would probably be done like that; those who knew the answer would keep it to themselves, and the others would discuss what they thought was playing. One problem is of course that some will not be able to join into the conversation because they haven't got their discs yet. What I would like to see, though, are more comments about what people think about the musical qualities (as well as other qualities) of the individual tracks and performances, already at the "guessing" stage of each test. Otherwise those who haven't got a clue about most of what's on the discs might feel that they are somewhat out of the game. Besides, I think it's more interesting to see what people like and don't like (and why) than just their guesses. That's my opinion, of course...
  21. The pleasure was if not all, at least partly mine! I wasn't home, but managed to record almost half of the show with a MP3 stream ripper. I'm looking forward to listening to it!
  22. Producing such pornography was illegal before. In 1999 possesion of a piece of child pornography became illegal too. The Swedish constitution's regulations about the freedom of speech and freedom of press prevented laws criminalizing possesion of any books, pictures, etc., but in 1999 the constitution was changed to allow new legislation in this area. I believe possesion of child pornography was criminalized in 1990 in the US.
  23. I wouldn't trust the paper Expressen on any subject. However, if "the same estimate" can be applied on any country, the US could have something to worry about too, considering the number of pets... While not criminalized per se, sex with an animal would - if proven - probably render punishment under the Swedish Animal Protection Act anyway.
