Jonathan Klein had Thad Jones, Jerome Richardson, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Grady Tate for the 1968 release "Hear, O Israel". -
The complete album is now on Spotify, for those who are interested.

Did you burn them?

Thanks! I have the best-of OJC on CD as well, and 'Cedar' and 'Soul Cycle' on Prestige vinyl. 🙂 Looking for 'Spectrum', but it hasn't turned up yet in the bins. (As if I ever have time to search any LP bins these days 😄)

How's the sound? I have it as a stereo pressing, and - as usual for this Prestige vintage - sound is so-so, partly because of uncomfortable stereo separation.
-
Their playing on The In Sound is simply fantastic, and BTW I think this is one of the best piano solos ever:

The liner notes on the Jungle Adventure album imply that the three groups play separately on different tracks. "By assigning the assorted melodies to each group individually, Camarata has also come up with a programming adventure". Sorry if this is not news (I haven't heard the album myself).

These double posts seem like something from the BNBB. These double posts seem like something from the BNBB.

If "digital" can transparently reproduce the sound of an analog (e.g. reel-to-reel) recording, but not reality itself, it seems to suggest that there is a difference between reality and the analog recording, in other words that analog recordings are not transparent. So, if the resolution of "digital" (at an appropriate sample rate/bit depth), is enough to reproduce what is in the analog recording, it would seem that you should be able to add whatever non-transparence that "analog" is doing to the sound and have the same listening experience. Run it through a tape delay? 🙂

Thanks for the information!

BTW, did 'Orgasm' actually come out in the US in 1969? The liners on Parabolic state that it (the UK release) was the first release anywhere, but I have no idea what year it was released. It does really look like a 70s cover design.

Haha! Joke appreciated. But it has always seemed as if forum members at this place - regardless of what country they are from/in - are more knowledgeable than average global citizens. 🙂

I am waiting for a domestic package here in Sweden. According to the online tracker it could not be delivered and the location is stated as "Bangladesh"... Surely an error (I cannot believe that it's there) but hilarious nevertheless.
-
Yes, it's a UK release. Had to get it when I found it. Actually, I like that title better, though the overall cover design looks a bit "low-budget"-y.

I do not disagree, and did not intend to imply I do not/cannot enjoy Billy Higgins on Blue Note. It was more an observation that different drummers come out differently, depending on the recording. I say this as someone who first became aware of Billy HIggins from his playing on a number of Blue Note albums from the second half of the 60s. But I did not understand his greatness until I had also heard him on a number of non-BN recordings. Going back to the BN stuff now, it's all there, of course. And I guess I still wonder why this was the case.
-
Am I alone in thinking that Billy Higgins was not always served by "the Blue Note sound" (can't tell if it is related to the Van Gelder studio)? On the "Breakthrough" album it's possible to hear a lot of the subtleties in his playing, whereas he sounds kind of "smoothed out" to me on the BN:s from the reverb-heavy later 60s. Some (louder?) drummers, like Elvin, seem to be less impacted by whatever sonic signature that BN production applied during this period.

Weren't many Impulse tapes lost in the fire?

The date was produced independently by Fred Norsworthy and then sold to Prestige. According to an interview with Norsworthy in the annotated Pepper Adams discography, Adams picked all the tunes. I've always liked the dopey tempo of Punjab, and Carter does some wild glissandos on that one. For sure one of the most enjoyable covers of Punjab. But it does not feel like a tune that Zoot Sims would ever had played, before or after. 🙂

I always smile when I hear Randy Jones stay in the double-time "boogaloo" type groove for a bar or two when he should have switched to swing around 4:30, and then does a fill as if to compensate. 🙂

COVID-19 2.0: No Politics edition
Daniel A replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
There is at least one factual error in that article: "No one knows yet for sure, but evidence abounds that the lethality of this virus may be in line with flu’s 1 percent, and possibly as low as 0.1 percent." Seasonal flu does not have a mortality rate of 1 percent, but rather in the 0.1 percent range. And it's all to early to state that the lethality of [the new corona] virus might be "possibly as low as 0.1 percent". Yes, anything is "possible", but it is misleading to state it this way. -
At least Conte didn't bring them to the gig - he kept the box at the hotel. But then, why bring it along on the tour?

Yes, I know. I was more reflecting on the fact that conspiracy theorists usually dismiss some facts, while accepting others. -

I wonder how people prone to believe in various conspiracy theories can dismiss any information they do not believe in as "lies", "fake news" etc but then still believe in other information that makes them upset. Why do they believe that there is or will be a vaccination program? Or that people actually die from the "common" flu?
