  1. Her first hit "Swing it, magistern" (=teacher) at 16 (from 1940"): https://youtu.be/3aLYNrwrr4M (BTW, how do I embed the video?)
  2. It says it's available for pre-order, but then there's a "Sold out" sign. If true, I'm hoping there will be a second pressing (no mention of it being limited). EDIT: It's available for pre-order from Amazon.
  3. He gets just one solo IIRC on McCoy Tyner's Impulse album "Today and Tomorrow".
  4. Well, yes, I suppose. But the point is partly to motivate rightsholders to make use of material they have instead of sitting on it, and if they do, they should be protected to be able to recap their investment. This was why Sony put out a bunch of Bob Dylan "bootlegs" a while back.
  5. Hi James, At one time I heard that you were working on a book on the Pacific Jazz label. Will the book eventually come out, or has it been replaced (so to speak) by your blog?
  6. The Choice album has bonus tracks, so maybe time for you to fill the gap properly? I have Mover's Vanguard LP, but somehow it never made an impression.
  7. Oh yeah? Will be very interesting to hear it. Did you get the CD yourself, or do you have this on LP? I don't have much Bob Mover at all, but I liked his playing on a Chet Baker bootleg I heard some 20 years ago and always planned to seek out more some day.
  8. Deeply regrettable. Unfortunately, yet other closures are sure to follow. Stockholm's Glenn Miller Café with only 40 seats (of which I am not sure how many are left due to physical distancing regulations) is still going strong.
  9. First CD purchases in quite a while.
  10. Many members have left or are hardly posting, and not many new people are joining. Just going by the post count, there were roughly 100,000 posts a year for the first 16 years. Now there has been a little over 60,000 posts in the last 17 months (since the 1,5M anniversary).
  11. I ordered last Thursday and it was shipped on Saturday. Expected delivery the day after tomorrow.
  12. Thanks for your comments. As stated, I prefer the handling and overall experience of playing an LP to streaming or playing a file. But I have found it increasingly less likely that I will pull out a CD when I can play the same music digitally without doing so. Maybe it's just the dreaded 21st century lazyness... (Have you ever found yourselves googling for information that you could get in seconds by just getting up, like measurements for an object in your home? 🙂)
  13. We have several playback units that adhere to the DLNA standard. These particular models seem to be discontinued, but there are many other current models. We're using a couple of Revo Superconnect table radios for the kitchen and children's rooms. For the music room we use a Yamaha CD player with Spotify, internet radio and network drive streaming capabilities. There are many amplifiers with similar functionality. If you want to use an existing amplifier, there are dedicated streaming devices at varying price levels. I am using a Synology NAS which has inherent DLNA support. That means that media files will automatically be accessible from units that support the standard, either from proprietary apps or remote controls or the free but somewhat clunky Undok app.
  14. I promise you that I am not trolling now, but I've got a question to all of you who prefer CDs to digital formats which are not based on plastic discs: do you prefer them only because of the packaging (booklets, liner notes) or also out of a feeling of "safety" for owning "physical" copies (or for any other reason)? The reason for my question is the sometimes stated, sometimes implied, argument that CDs are a safer way to keep music than as files stored in another manner. But the fact is that hard drives, clouds and compact discs are only different ways of storing the same digital files. There are many safe ways to store digital data, and most often they are based on redundancy. CDs can get scratched, they can "rot", be stolen, lost or burn. A file storage solution based on multiple copies in different locations (as in local drive plus cloud) would probably be much safer. Ask a bank how they store critical data (it will not be as discs or printouts). 🙂 I appreciate physical product myself; these days primarily enjoyed in the form of LPs. But the "safety" argument has long seemed flawed to me. But feel free to put me straight. 😄
  15. I realize that I am maybe not answering your question, but here's what I do: I keep my files on a local network drive which is also mirrored in Google Drive. At home, I am streaming directly from the local drive, but when I am elsewhere, I am streaming from Google Drive to my mobile phone, using the standard (Android) music player. That said, I believe that there are ways to cast to a Chomecast unit from Google Drive. I know that VLC can do it, though it's primarily a video player.
  16. It's a downward spiral, that less and less is being spent on packaging, liner notes etc because there is no money in CD sales anymore. And then there is even less incentive for many people to get the physical product. I am mostly streaming and playing LPs these days. I only play/buy music on CD that is not available in any other format, with the rare exception of Japanese CD reissues of material which has never been reissued before, and for which I might want a backup copy to save the vinyl from some wear.
  17. British copyright acts says "Sound Recordings 50 years from the end of the calendar year in which the work was created, or, if the work is released within that time: 70 years from the end of the calendar year in which the work was first released." Does that mean that copyright actually expired on Jan 1 2019? (Which is the same as the "EU copyright law" BTW)
  18. For Hallberg fans, I would like to mention that Vax Records has acquired the rights to a large part of Hallberg's output, including his releases for the Phontastic label as well as many previously unreleased sessions. They are making all of these titles available for streaming on Spotify. So far they have released 19 titles this year, and have said that they intend to release one more title a week. I don't know if these are available for Spotify users worldwide, but feel free to check: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5q3Zh4BS8gJVpcrcGOhk8J?si=2FtPsofNTNGfzM53j9eARg
  19. They are also available on Spotify for those who are into that. 🙂 Interestingly, some titles disappeared from Spotify a while ago (example: Matnard's 'Color Him Wild') and those don't seem to be available on any download/streaming platform.
  20. It seems as if it is still available from the European Amazon sites. In any case, it's still available at EUR 10 here in Sweden, but overseas shipping is expensive.
  21. I only have an A4 scanner at home, so you might want to do some pasting. Would you prefer jpg format? 🙂
  22. I can do that for you, Flurin.
  23. It seems to still be in the hands of the Teekens family, but whether there will be any new releases, I don't know. There was a release in June this year, however recorded in 2018. On the Criss Cross website it says " This release is a tribute to my father and our grandpa Gerry Teekens Sr, founder of Criss Cross Jazz who passed away October 31, 2019. Jerry Teekens Jr, Bo Teekens, Amber Teekens."
  24. I don't really understand this. Everything else aside, if you're about to eat you can't wear a mask. I get the part that their dismissive comment can be perceived as offensive and I don't defend violent acts, but how could anyone expect them to wear a mask when they are about to eat?
