  1. Isn't Keepnews still around?
  2. Be sure to check out this session-by-session listing: http://www.gullin.net/covers/covers.htm Not the most clever web layout (click on "start" and then on the arrow to move foward) but nice work anyway.
  3. It's out: http://www.gullin.net/Gullin.pdf Gullin website with CD discography: http://www.gullin.net/nyintro.htm
  4. I think it was actually out on CD once in Japan. The music is rather lightweight, despite a couple of good soloists.
  5. So far, I've received what I've ordered from Caiman. However, I was a bit disappointed in finding that a Blue Note disc was the copy-controlled Euro version, allthough it was shipped from the US. My first - and hopefully last - copy protected CD.
  6. Two sound clips (unfortunately, only one of which actually includes Tony Scott's playing) from the Gazell CD reissue of these sessions can be found here: http://www.gazell.net/records/katalog/reco...GAFCD-1051.html
  7. A very happy birthday, Guy! I wish you all the best!
  8. Thank you everybody!!! Despite my age, not time for any 33 rpm records yesterday, but I hope the weekend will provide some opportunities for that. Will be moving next week, and it'll perhaps be a short while before I'll get time to step by, as I've got some painting job to do...
  9. Consider yourselves lucky; in Northern Europe a single full-price CD is equal to $28 in the stores.
  10. European digipak version is available from caiman at UK Amazon Marketplace for £4.14. Including shipping it would cost you around $13.50. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B...7174518-2607630
  11. I'm not sure that was what Chuck had in mind, but I'm glad it turned out well for you anyway.
  12. Art Blakey "Theme from the Golden Boy" (original stereo Colpix) This is really one of the most enjoyable Messengers albums! Particularly good to hear Shorter's arrangements for the eight-horn frontline.
  13. Much like this one:
  14. Technically? Well, yes, but then every Connoisseur CD cover of sessions originally released in the 70s should look like this: Personally, I think the Liberty cover for Soul Station wasn't as bad as the others which have been posted here. Although I think it would have been better if it just showed the train station...
  15. Could anyone please post a link to the US law which regulates the 70 year protection, thanks.
  16. Perhaps I was in error, Mike. It is mentioned here: http://www.musicweb-international.com/ency...edia/c/C148.HTM and I also thought I remembered this from the shorter version of Frohne's discography which used to be available on the Internet (before the book was published, I suppose). But I was confused by some catalog numbers I had written down; do both Emanon 17039 and 17040 refer to the same "Historically Speaking" set?
  17. There were just these two, produced by Gigi Campi himself. I think there were two more Emanon 2 CD sets, "Historically Speaking" and "The Power of Positive Swinging", aside from the one Brownie mentions which must be "Blowing the Cobwebs Out". Never seen any of them, though.
  18. There were at least 20 studio albums, so a complete box would probably be too big to really sell. But I'd buy anything from this band! Still looking for many of the original albums, too... Previous thread.
  19. Hi, Hans! Good to see you here!
  20. There's the Internet, of course...
  21. A friend of mine is using a rather old Audiowerk card, and it is really very good for recording. His card has an external panel with RCA jacks, although I'm not sure how it's connected to the sound card.
  22. What about purchases from Amazon Marketplace sellers?
  23. However, magnetic tapes - which would make up for a large part of these recordings - will inevitably become unplayable after some time due to magnetic or binder deterioration, which means they have to be transferred at some point in order to be saved.
  24. I've got classical LPs with 40 minutes on each side, which means it would even be difficult to squeeze the contents onto a single CD. The LP grooves are narrower during quieter passages, so maximum playing time depends on the dynamics of the music. However, with playing times of 30 minutes or more the overall dynamic range will probably suffer. I've even seen a disclaimer once (on what happened to be a Red Mitchell LP from the 1980s) that in order to get all of the music onto the LP, the producer (who might have been Mitchell himself) had to limit the dynamic range of the recording.
  25. Personally, I'm not overly enthusiastic about the Solomon Ilori album. I guess I find it more "interesting" than "enjoyable". Can't help you with an opinion on the Ukonu albums, though.
