  1. Just back from seeing the Bill Charlap trio. Kenny Washington is always impressive.
  2. I had the same thought, but all the references that I've found so far all refer to Bob Crosby. I agree that a reference to Hope makes more sense.
  3. There's this from a Whitney Balliett interview of Jimmy Rowles. It appears on page 301 of his collection "American Musicians II" and probably appeared elsewhere earlier. Oh well. The clip I tried to paste in wasn't accepted. I'll have to type it... "Lester was the coolest man I ever met. He had his own language. He'd turn to me on the bandstand and say, 'Startled doe. Two o'clock,' which meant if you looked into the audience at where two o'clock was you'd see this pretty chick with big eyes. 'Bob Crosby's in the house' meant a cop had just come in, and 'Bing and Bob' meant the fuzz were all over the place."
  4. The original title of "Things Ain't What They Used to Be" was "Time's A-Wastin'"
  5. I think Pres would use the phrase to "Bing and Bob" to refer to policemen. The reference to Bing (Crosby) and his brother was implicit rather than explicit.
  6. Duplicate. See January 13, 2013. Duplicate of your own post from March 2, 2013...
  7. Another duplicate. See Jan. 24, 2013. Here's a new one:
  8. I saw him open for Dylan as well in Boston. That was the highlight of the night as it turned out.
  9. I'm not familiar with the following by Christiana Drapkin:
  10. Ruby Braff does a nice version of Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Rai on this (evoking Bing's version): This one below has an Irish "slant" and includes a version of "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" as well:
  11. Thanks all! Had a good one.
