  6. Im bummed by the sound of those old transfers in the "Okeh" Ellington by Sony. Plenty of noise reduction and that just kills it for me. Are there any alternatives to get this material in better sound? Thanks
  7. I got mine today. Listening to disc one. Very happy with the sound so far. I dont hear any noise reduction.
  8. I bought mine from Amazon marketplace (caiman) for 9.99. Shipped yesterday, so it should be here soon.

  15. Sonny Rollins at the Kennedy Center!!!
  16. I tried Lon recommendation and ordered "Braggin in Brass" WOW!!! I knew the music was great, but was not expecting much on the sonics side. I was very happy to find out that there was NO noise reduction used for this set. Plenty of hiss, as opposed to the Duke Box released by Sony more recently with the same tracks. Only thing I noticed is that 'I let a song go out of my heart' is slower than the version I am familiar with (recorded the same day). Is this a different slower take or was this a snafu in the 'Braggin in Brass' set?
  17. It has a very important place in my collection, if only by the size of it. The biggest box I own. Not all of it is mastered the best it could have been, the book could fall apart at any minute.. still, it is worth more than the $300 I paid for it. The other day I just played all the takes of 'Old Man Blues' non stop for hours. Im glad I have this box; even if you own some of the material I think you should start saving to get one.
  18. Thanks a lot, that is exactly what I was looking for. I'll be checking that blog for sure!
  19. I bought this compilation just because it was cheap and included Louis and Ella duet on 'Dream a little dream of me', which oddly I could not find in my collection (wasnt this recorded for Decca?). Anyway I thought I was going to get a lot of duplicates, but was happy surprised since most of the material is live!! Unfortunately this CD is not labeled as a live CD (as it should) and there are no details on the booklet as to where this recordings come from. Anyone has any info out there? This is driving me crazy! 1. A Kiss To Build A Dream On 2. Mack The Knife 3. Hello Dolly 2:31 4. Jeepers Creepers 5. Ain't Misbehavin' 6. Dream A Little Dream Of Me 7. 20. Well, I finally got an email saying that one of the 'in stock' items I ordered was canceled because....well, turns out it was not in stock. I'd probably think twice before placing another order with these guys.
  21. Well the Fargo concert is just...wow. Could be the greatest live Ellington ever, period. I own the Storyville anniversary edition and the sound is gorgeous. I am not such a big fan of the Hawk date, its OK but not one my favorites.
  22. Duke fan here I have been adding to my Duke collection too lately. Let me recommend too the Private Collection, its just loads and loads of great stuff. I think the volumes that are OOP are 4, 6 and 8, IIRC, so you may want to start looking for those sooner rather than later. I dont think Duke made a bad album, at least I havent heard it. This week's favorite: JAZZ PARTY. hard to find these days, but really, really good.
  23. Thanks, but they dont have what I want: * Ellington Small Groups * Boogie Woogie Piano/Blues * Bird Mosaic
