  1. That sounds tempting. Roaratorio has been releasing some interesting stuff from both Joe McPhee and Steve Lacy. Now they're releasing the duo encore that was performed in 1977. It was encore to Lacy's solo performance which was released on Clinkers. This is called "The Rest" and is around 19 minutes. http://roaratorio.com/main.html Other releases/reissues that might be of interest. 2. I just looked up the MLB minimum player salary which this year is $490,000, so if ALL Astros were paid the absolute minimum on the 25 player roster would come to $12,250,000 I saw that figure in an article on the Houston Chronicle's website: http://blog.chron.com/ultimateastros/2013/07/31/young-get-younger-as-astros-make-several-moves/?cmpid=sportshcat I don't know how all the numbers are calculated, but that's still a crazy figure. I feel for you. They're probably looking @ a 4th 100+ loss season next year as well.
  3. It's looking like Mr. April will be suspended under the CBA instead of the drug rules. That way even if he appeals he will still have to sit until the process is finished. Meaning he will miss @ least the rest of this season. Unless the arbitrator agrees to stay it, which is unusual in the process.
  4. 1. Left to right like reading in English. 2. L & R 3. Yes 4. The more it gets closer to the limit the more distorted. The engineer will clip it off once it passes the limit, which is represented by 1 and -1 in the above graph. 5. The graph makes it hard to see the difference numerically. This shows a better set of graphs. http://www.cdmasteringservices.com/dynamicdeath.htm The graph for Ricky Martin's - Livin' La Vida Loca
  5. It took Stockton 9 months to be considered insolvent. Which brings up another thing. The legal fees. Even with the "discount" by Jones Day....I think they're being conservative with around $100 million. This is the kind of case that could end up @ the Supreme Court. Another thing....you have to think those on the police force are looking for jobs elsewhere. Future pension/health insurance alone is reason enough....which means the crime rate is going to get worse. http://www.freep.com/article/20130710/NEWS01/307100023/Detroit-legal-financial-restructuring-municipal-bankruptcy Being a one industry city makes everything much more complicated for whenever they finally get out of bankruptcy. They're basically going to have to recreate the city. They can get companies to come....but they're going to have to give a lot of subsidies/incentives.
  6. 1. Word has it that Mr. April has until today to accept a suspension starting this and including all next year without pay. If he doesn't accept it will be a lifetime ban. It might be announced as early as today. If he accepts the ban he still can get his salary from 2015 & 2016, which is $60+ million. With a lifetime ban he wouldn't see a penny of it. Mr. April will probably fight the lifetime ban. Even if an arbitrator reduces it to a year....he's missing most if not all of next year., which is what the Yankees would prefer anyway. 2. Safe to say that the Stros have officially thrown in the towel for this season with the trading of their closer (Jose Veras) to Detroit for a prospect and the usual player to be named later.

  8. You're welcome. If you, or anyone wants to really know what's going on with stadiums/arenas.... http://fieldofschemes.com./
  9. The Judge will allow the bankruptcy. There really is no way to get around it. The real issues is the pensions and health insurance. "Detroit is claiming $18.5 billion in debts and liabilities, including $11.5 billion in unsecured claims, mostly from underfunded pensions and unfunded retiree health insurance promises." According to the census figures.....1950 was the peak with regards to the population @ 1,849,568. Its now has 1,142,983 less people. It was once the 5th largest city in the country. 706,585 can't pay to keep a city as large Detroit going. Being a one industry city & race relations/white flight (83% of the population is African-American.) killed the city. Unlike Detroit....Pittsburgh started to do something once the steel industry started going south. At one time there was 125 automakers in Detroit....now only GM and Chrysler (though their HQ is Auburn Hills) are left of the majors with factories...even Ford is out in the suburbs. P.S. Speaking of DIA. http://www.freep.com/article/20130718/NEWS/307180160/Are-DIA-works-more-risk-bankruptcy-
  10. Speaking of Chicago....Wrigley Field's renovations are closer to going forward. The Ricketts family is paying the $500 million. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-07-26/news/ct-met-wrigley-field-0728-20130727_1_rooftop-owners-rooftop-clubs-rooftop-views

  12. Mostly agree with you there, but from a Keynesian perspective, it really doesn't matter all that much what you spend funds on if you keep people employed. For whatever reason, politicians (including GOP politicians) will open up and give funds for sports stadia and conference centers and pretty much nothing else. (Nowadays you can't even get the GOP to reliably fund the Interstate Highway System!) So I figure they ought to take what crumbs they can get. In Detroit's case they really won't even the get normal tax revenue that other cities building arenas/stadiums get. Most the employees (be they the 8,000 temporary ones involved in the construction, or the "expected" 400 permanent jobs.) won't be from and/or living in Detroit. Unless they buy something while in Detroit....the city won't see any of it's money directly coming back in taxes. The state on the other hand will at least make some money and the city will probably get some of it indirectly as part of funds the state normally gives cities. That leaves only the taxes from those that come to the game, concerts/events or restaurants, bars, etc....even in normal situations these stadiums are always money pits in terms of return in investment for cities/states....especially since owners are now demanding new stadiums every 15-20 years, or renovations that cost as much a building a new stadium. Look at the Rams they basically want to rebuild Edward Jones Dome @ $700 million and it's only 18-years old. The city still has another 12-years on the original bond to build it. When it's all said and done the new arena for the Red Wings will probably end up costing the state/city between $700-900 million. They need something that will get people to live in Detroit itself. The Red Wings already have a hard core fan base...the same people that were going to Joe Louis will be going to this...the prices will probably be higher which would bring in whatever difference more percentage wise. They will still book the same amount of other events. Once again whatever percentage in higher prices being the only difference in income. They're going to include a hotel/restaurants and other buildings in the area. People need a reason to come to Detroit to stay in that hotel. How many people fly in from out state to see a Red Wings game? Even if people do stay in the hotel it's just going to be money they would have spent @ another Detroit Hotel, or other similar places as those that will be built around the new arena. I really don't see much of major enough difference in extra revenue to warrant the money being spent....especially with Detroit being $18 billion in debit.

  14. Albert Pujols is most likely gone for the rest of the season. Only 8 more years left on his contract. Don't even get me started on the Josh Hamilton deal. $365 million (this year it's $33 combined) for a combined avg. 240, 16HR, 53.5 RBI, .312 wOBA. In the meantime the Cardinals are in first and Rangers are only 1.5 behind the A's.
  15. Even though it has so few people remaining....Detroit still has a murder rate 11 times higher than that of NYC for example. It takes cops on the average of an hour to respond to calls 40% of the street lights are turned off to cut down costs. Building schools? They're selling/leasing all the vacant ones they can. They already sold/leased 85 or so and have around another 80 available. You don't need that many schools with that small of a population. http://detroitk12.org/admin/operations/real_estate/ There are so many vacant buildings/homes they set up a demolishing program. It's all straight out of Robocop. http://www.detroitmi.gov/DepartmentsandAgencies/MayorsOffice/Initiatives/ResidentialDemolitionProgram.aspx
  16. The state/city is paying for two thirds of the cost. When you add in the interest on the bond for it....that will come to $444 million. Of that Detroit will be paying $284 million. If you add in the usual amount of subsidies given....it will probably be another $200 million on top of the cost of the stadium. On top of their share of the stadium....the Red Wings will be spending $177 million on development around the area. Whatever few permanent jobs are created will most likely be filled by people who don't live in the city itself. Only around 700,000 people still live in Detroit. Pretty hard to raise funds through taxes with no one living in the city. 17. I am very much ONE with him getting healthy...but as long as he's not as Larry Kart has described Coleman Hawkins @ the end I am not ONE with him retiring.....thankfully, he is able to get proper care. After 60+ years....retiring....that actually is the quickest way to a result no one wants to see for a good time more. P.S. Just want to add in he's my Mother's favorite. As in, using Saxophone Colossus would have been over the top!
  18. I am the kind that won't let you drive, which in the end is the best friend/companion you really want to be with. You might not like me at the time....but I really don't care.
  19. 10-years is a good deal of time to get them to change their minds and there is a loophole. They are just finishing a $1 billion renovation. I don't see them just giving up. Who is paying for the new one? Will the city have to compensate for the renovations to the current MSG? With the loophole....it comes across as a way to get the Dolan family to help pay for the renovations to Penn St.
  20. sorry, a typo.
  21. More likely in honor of the Queen since one of her names is Alexandra. It's probably a combination of Lord Mountbatten, or his father Prince Louis of Battenberg who was William's great-great grandfather.

  23. +2nd time caught = career over Currently there's much more reward for cheaters than risk; hence the PED era continues. 1 year suspension first time caught, followed by expulsion for 2nd offence would make it a very difficult decision for anyone to mess with this stuff. Melky get's his 50 game suspension after best #'s for his career....Giants kick him to the curb, yet Toronto signs him multi-year for really good money. Cheater Braun takes his 65 day suspension [3-4 million vacation for a team that's going nowhere], yet PED'd his way to his $120 million contract that he gets paid for no matter what happens from this point forward. cincinnati(on the road) will bat last in one of the games. has that ever been done in mlb history???? Yes,,,,,it's a make up rained-out game that was a Reds home game initially, so they batted last in the visiting ball park. And he took the suspension this year because the team was going nowhere and since he was going to make more money next year....he would have lost more money. But you have to remember the Players union fought tooth and nail for 10-years with MLB just to get it to 50/100/banned for life. They players are not going to agree with that. Just look at the NFL and HGH. They're doing a population study (even thought the WADA already has one for multiple sports) of every player because the NFLPA is claiming football players have a higher level than normal people, or even other non-football athletes.....which is B.S. The NFL wants to to include a proviso for retroactive testing. The NLFPA doesn't want that. Without it....those players who are using it can keep using it which will skew the baseline making it harder to catch someone.
  24. She turned her place into a BB and you can see she's not having problems keeping it booked. $124 a night and it's booked for 13 months. https://www.wimdu.co.uk/offers/B3KCHBS3
  25. Sure. An economy can thrive on selling (yet more) mugs with the (soon to be outdated) picture of an infant ... Well, an economy can thrive on practically anything, provided it can thrive on it But 240 million sounds far-fetched to me. Do these analysts know by how much the UK economy was boosted by the birth of William? MG Not far fetched.... http://www.reuters.com/video/2013/07/23/the-queen-of-royal-souvenirs?videoId=196106172&videoChannel=2602
