  5. I just ordered 3 Compositions & For Alto from Stefan on this board a couple of days ago - My first Braxton purchases , I'm looking forward to hearing them even more now after reading this thread.
  6. My son was born just over three years ago & when i think of my life before then I always get a feeling that something was missing (does that make sense?). I now also have a daugther who was one on Saturday - I can honestly say no matter how shitty some days can be i just look at them & everythings OK. I can honestly say I've never been happier. Africa , I dont know what 'Dora the explorer' is but surely it cant be as bad as 'Barney In Concert' last thing at night & first thing in the morning day in day out.

    Ken Vandermark

This years Airports for Lights gets better with each listen Free Jazz classics Vol 1 & 2 is great live versions of ... well free jazz classics Some Ken solo (partly in his living room) - Furniture music is the latest & is very good Ive not got enough KV so i'll be interested to see the other recommendations. (BBC Jazz on 3 played a track from the new School Days Cd -it sounded up to the usual high standard - but its not out until the Spring unfortunately - heres the link thers some live Tim Berne on there also http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/jazz/jon3/jon3.shtml )
  8. The band with the most bizzare name in my collection is DR Phibes & the house of wax equations.
  9. Its going to be a busy couple of weeks for the mini disc player http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/jazzfest2003/onair.shtml
  10. Thanks for the disc Jim (I've got here eventually). I didnt know any of the tracks ! The Lee Morgan track i thought may have been miles (I was worried about being caught out by another Miles track i didn't know like on BF 1 - very humbling) Track 6 i was convinced i knew & had somewhere in the collection - but no, when i checked the answers i didnt even recognise the artist's or the track's name! Theres some nice tunes on the disc and i shall be listening to it more in the future.

Ive been on the verge of buying 'For Alto' for the last couple of months now . it looks like its worth taking the plunge. Theres a big gap in the 'BRAX' section of my collection thats beckoning me to fill it - For Alto sounds like a good place to start.
  12. Theres not alot i can add to the thread except that i've only had the CD since it was nominated for AOW & ever since the first listen it immediately hit the nail on the head for me . the 2 biggest highlights for me (there no lowlights) are 'I'll be right here waiting' its just beautiful. And Fred Hopkins bass playing - its breath taking. A great choice for CD of the week .
  13. Mr Sangry Ive noticed that you've posted here once or twice before & you seem to know a thing or two about this jazz malarky - so I've given you the benefit of the doubt & placed an order.
  14. If you are I'll join you all that needs to happen is we all nominate 5 New Releases & 5 Reissuse in 1 to 5 order . Number 1 gets five points , 2 gets 4 etc. Add up all the points & the winner is the Organissimo forums 2003 Cd of the year. & the same goes for reissues . Or everybody could nominate 10 - the system could be your number 1 gets 10 points , number 2 gets nine points etc. there you go - clear as mud ? Thought so.

    Solo Sax

i agree with the previous recommendations for these two by Joe McPhee , I bought Tenor a few months ago & instantly wanted more. You may also want to give Furniture music by Ken Vandermark a go also - its inspired by the works of Mcphee & Evan Parker.
  16. Go for it ! I'm in if you are willing to send overseas & if i can pay on-line.
  17. I couldnt find anything about it on the proper site . Amazon UK lists the label as History. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...4259550-3213221
  18. Cheers for the nod Clunky - I was originally going to buy a ticket (with John S) for the London show on the 22nd. But i'm a season ticket holder at Southampton FC & we are home to Chelsea that day - I thought i'd most probably catch the train after the game - but then i realised I'd be sharing atrain with a few thousand Chelsea fans - not appealing. Hopefully i'll catch him next time. (pS i haven't forgotten about checking out that disc for you Ill PM you soon)
  19. i did start a thread on this one a while ago - surely you remember it -the amount of replies really set the board alight! http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...wtopic=1848&hl=
  20. Yep its solo . Ken plays clarinet, bass clarinet , baritone sax & tenor . I like Ken Vandermark & found this to be a challenging but ultimately rewarding purchase.
  21. Im sure i read in a review of this that only 1 of the vans/lorries used for recording was allowed outside the club for security reasons , but it was recorded 10 days after 9/11. I'll see if i can dig out the review this evening.
  22. This is worth keeping an eye out for.
  23. she's certainly versatile http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=2962831019
  24. Im with Rooster & KH on this one . The sound quality is nowhere near unlistenable & the actual music gets better with each spin.
