Hi Alfred , I also asked them the same question & got a different reply - We have checked your account and found that you may have already received an e-mail from us about this item. Unfortunately, when we contacted the supplier, we found that the item is no longer available. As we are currently unable to offer this item, it has been deleted from your order, and you have not been charged for it. We apologise for this inconvenience. Until recently we had still hoped to be able to obtain this item. Please note that the item offered on our Web site is a different item with slightly different features and therefore has a different price. You must have been a bit more persuasive than me! I think I'll leave it at that & not risk jepordising the other titles. I hope you get all of yours.

i must admit Cecil Taylor is an artist I've been meaning to check out for the last couple of years - so maybe this will be the best place to start.
-
Hi Shane , the titles that stand out for me are the Lee Morgan , Jackie McLean & Horace Silver (just the names alone are enough of a recomendation) . But equally im looking forward to a couple of the titles from artist that i dont have anything by as a leader - Duke Pearson , Cecil Taylor & Blue Mitchell.
-
Im sure we could all pick titles that we would like to see included that are not there (personally my collection is begging for more Larry Young)- but I'm really looking forward to getting these titles, I havent got any of these & for those of us (relative) newbies on this is board this series is a cracking way of building a Blue Note collection.

Art Blakey - Moanin' John Coltrane - Africa Brass Ornette - Beauty is a rare thing (disc 1) Albert Ayler - Love Cry Miles - Live at Filmore East
-
Hey I'm pretty far East compared to you - ENGLAND. Thats why it was a nice suprise today - i normally have to wait three or four days after reading that you guys have had your boxes delivered.
-
A nice surprise both the Chambers & John Patton selects have arrived here (# 865 & 767) . I thought i might have to wait a while as there looked to be a hold up with the John Patton set last week. This is my 1st John Patton purchase , but after reading a few of the threads on here i think i'll have a pleasant evenings listening.
-
you may be right Rooster , i just seem to remember reading liner notes from a Kenny Dorham i picked up . Im not 100 per cent sure myself .
-
So, then, probably the cheapest way for you to pick this up is from Freshsounds (and their special "extra blue" Blue Note series). I understand that many of these titles are taken from TOCJ masters (from Japan), which means no bonus tracks - although you do get very good sound that way. (I also understand that this "extra blue" series doesn't include the text from the liner-notes, although it does have the front and back covers of the album reproduced.) i have this version of 'into somethin' & a few more of the Blue Blue Notes - i'm sure they do have liner notes (i'll double check the Larry Young when i get home ) I have no complaints about the sound quality & the music SMOOOKKKEESSSSS!!! Im sure some Larry Young RVGs must be due for those of us that were too late to pick up the mosaic.

This ones not too bad either http://www.fantasyjazz.com/html/pepperbox1016+.html (in fact ive just stuck disc 4 on -it opens with a great 'Lover Man')

After reading Straight Life - I was left wishing that the guy spent half the amount of time that he did worrying about drugs concentrating on his music . I was hoping to read a book about a musician who happened to have some problems along the way , but found myself reading a book about a junkie who spent alot of time in jail who happened to be a talented musician. the great shame is the music he made was beautiful (yes & very emotional) , but what could have been??

One for David Blaine fans http://www.brianmung.com/blainegame.htm

The 2 Paris shows are recommended also . I picked up this one (with Sonny Stitt) recently for only £5.99 (less than $10) for a double CD. i've had the Trane Paris shows for a little while but im sure that set is as cheap on this side of the pond.
-
theres not a lot i can add to the thread (but i voted for it so i thought i would be rude not to). John S recommended this CD to me when i was asking him about Archie Shepp . My initial thought was ' why would anybody want an album of Trane covers? Is there anything to add'. little did i know . I was really surprised at how wrong i was . I have enjoyed it from the first listen , what initially grabbed me was Shepp's unique sound. What grabbed me after listening a few times this week is Charles Moffets drumming - fantastic. I learned 2 valuable lessons from this CD. 1 ) Dont be put off by preconcieved ideas about jazz musicians covering other works by my favourite artists . ( I even bought David Murrays Trane tribute since). 2) You never go wrong with a recommendation from John S.

Bev - i've got a copy for you - I'll post one as soon as i get your address.

2004 Blue Note calender
Gary replied to jimac51's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
John - it looks like it should be easier to find this year http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0...7019187-6831062 I'll join you in the queue -
In the excellent Paul Tingen book 'Electric Miles - the explorations of Miles Davis 1967-1991' when discussing the On the Corner sessions he briefly mentions Columbia are to release a box set of the On the Corner sessions (page 139). when you look at miles Columbia output, the (planned) studio box sets seem to cover it all then abruptly stop at Jack Johnson , so it would make sense to carry on with On the Corner / get up with it material.

i have 60 (including a few in transit). i have a couple of the others that i wont be upgrading- 'song for my father' 'Out to Lunch'. As a relative newcomer to jazz , this series to me is an excellent introduction to an excellent label.
-
Thats £32.22 !!! About £20 cheaper than this side of the pond .
-
It 's getting closer & cheaper ! http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...7019187-6831062
