  1. LOL! From this website, it seems Kurt Elling is Lutheran. Also: Ace Frehley David Hasselhoff Lyle Lovett John Mellencamp And not jazz (or even music), but you'll be happy to know that Troy Aikman is Lutheran!
  2. Chas' post has nothing to do with the value of the CD. How is this auction price in relation to other auction prices for that same title? That' a better gauge of the value of the CD itself. Chas is recommending an alternative to the purchase of this CD, and doesn't really help the seller (or buyers of legitimate music for that matter). It's of no value at all, other than to simply remind people that they can download music for free, instead of buying it. I think some prices of CDs get out of hand on Ebay, certainly. Prices for everything do though. If I think something's too high, I won't bid on it. But I wouldn't "threadcrap" and effectively recommend that someone *NOT* purchase something that is being advertised here, and steal it instead. For consistency's sake, Chas should be posting in EVERY For Sale/Auction thread that any prospective buyers should download that music free, instead of buying it.
  3. Happy late Birthday! Continue celebrating with your favorite music today!
  4. yep, ya got lucky! I'll throw a comment in! Not so much about the merits of purchasing legitimately released music, versus illegal music downloading, but more that it's not cool to jump on Scott's thread for the purpose of effectively suggesting that people shouldn't purchase this cd from an upstanding board member, but should seek to download it for free instead. This is not the place for those sort of comments.
  5. Congrats Shawn, and welcome back to Texas! Austin's my favorite place in Texas, though you obviously know enough about it that you're not going in "blind". Would be great to have a casual Austin hang with everyone in the area some time. Maybe meet up for a Soulstream/Mike Flanigin B-3 show at the Continental Club or something. PS - Ron, I'm sure after 30 years, the Statute of Limitations for any misdemeanors you committed has expired, so you'd be welcome back for a visit too!

  7. So that's how Ron's selling all these discs on Ebay!
  8. Nice comeback win for the Lakers, after being down 20. Congrats Noj & other Laker fans. I hope the Spurs play a whole game on Friday - I think they could have won this one tonight (and should have after being up that much midway through the 3rd). Some strange calls by the officials, but not too many of them, and overall I think it was called evenly. I don't think the Spurs will admit it (and they aren't the type to make alot of excuses anyway), but I think being forced to sleep on a grounded plane and not having a full day of preparation cost them, it showed in their energy level at the end. Regardless, good comeback Lakers.
  9. 8. Chuck Nessa eliminated all usage of No. 6, everywhere, forever.
  10. 4. Chuck Nessa doesn't produce records. He stares them down until they produce themselves.
  11. Spurs slept on grounded plane SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- The San Antonio Spurs' departure from New Orleans after winning Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals was delayed several hours after their plane had mechanical problems, the team said Tuesday. The team could not find hotel rooms in the city, so the players had to sleep on the plane, team spokesman Cliff Puchalski said. "We slept on the plane -- as much as you can sleep," Puchalski said. "We tried to keep some normal semblance of order." The Spurs eliminated the Hornets 91-82 in Game 7 Monday night, then went straight to Los Angeles, where they play the Lakers in Game 1 of the conference finals on Wednesday. Puchalski said the team slept on the plane with the mechanical problems before boarding another plane that was brought in from Minneapolis. The team took off about 6:30 a.m. Central time, Puchalski said, and landed in Los Angeles about four hours later. The team was not practicing Tuesday.
  12. Maine doesn't exactly have a reputation as a cultural mecca (neither does South Texas). I'm guessing that's not the reason you ended up there in the first place though, and also that you probably knew Maine was "like that" when you went there originally (?). If being in a musically happening place where gigs and artists were plentiful was a priority for me, I sure wouldn't be where I am. Names like Julius Hemphill and Don Byron mean probably nothing to 99.99% of the people in my community. But I'm here for different, personal reasons. I recognized I'd be sacrificing the ability to enjoy alot of live music when I came back here in 2003.
  13. Hi and, yes, see my above post. Many (most?) of their sale offers apply to box sets. The one to look for is 65% off w/ free shipping, since the shipping cost on boxed sets is obviously more expensive. And here it is: To get the 65% Off CDs, Plus Free Shipping offer, enter the promotion code "Y8P2" in the box on the left side of our website's homepage and click "apply." But hurry! Promo code is only good until 5/26/08! I tried that code on a box set, but it didn't give me free shipping.
  14. And yes Bruce, I agree with you to an extent. In a perfect world my team would have swept the Hornets and would have been waiting for the Lakers to tough out a 7 game series against the Jazz. I know that's not how it works though. But I do think the Spurs played a tougher opponent in the Hornets than the Lakers did with the Jazz. The people who set the schedule didn't set this particular game up until a few days ago though. What's one more day? Is one day (a travel day from an away game to another away game, AND a preparation day all rolled into one) enough between games for any team? edit - The spacing between games is odd anyway. The Spurs Hornets played Game 6 last Thursday, then for some reason had 3 days off until Game 7. Why didn't the NBA let them play on Sunday instead, and then have Game 1 of the Spurs/Lakers on Wednesday?
  15. I would think that home-schooling would be an ideal solution for someone with this disorder... According to the article, she's being raised by a single mother (her father lives in Peru). I'm assuming her mom works, so she probably doesn't have the time to devote to homeschooling. Also, the article says her mother doesn't think she'd be able to help her with math and writing problems, and opted not to homeschool her for that reason. It sounds like the mother's education level may not be very high. And there were tutors that were sent to the girl's home, with varying levels of success, apparently. But I think psychological help could have addressed and resolved this issue at alot earlier age, rather than allowing her to continue like this. Allowing this girl to get through "school" like this isn't helping her address her issues, and is rather teaching her to avoid them. Edit - I think the mother is milking the system too, by the way.
  16. I'm breathing a sigh of relief after Game 7 tonight. That was a great Spurs/Hornets series, and the Hornets core of Paul, West, & Chandler should set them up for good things to come. Spurs played their game efficiently tonight, and didn't lose the 3rd quarter as they had in all of the previous games at New Orleans. Udoka, Horry, and Finley all played well off the bench too, though I'd almost prefer to see Ginobili back off the bench instead of starting. One thing that doesn't seem quite fair is that the winner of this game has to turn around and play at LA the day after tomorrow. Seems like they could have waited until Thursday night to start this series.

  18. Astros have won 11 of their last 13 games, and Berkman leads the majors in HRs at the moment. I think ESPN this a.m. said Berkman's hitting .556 during his current 14 game hitting streak. After being down 6-0 last night to the Giants, the Astros came back to tie the game off an Erstad pinch hit HR in the 8th, then in the 9th Berkman hit the game winning HR into McCovey Cove. I don't think the Astros are a complete team this season by any means, but Berkman certainly deserves some props for what he's doing.
  19. What are you saying - she has an Adam's Apple or something?
  20. Marcia Ball is NOT a contemporary jazz artist. I hope this isn't another wave of spammers.
  21. The way I see it, Chris' comments about Schaap are professional in nature, while yours about Chris are personal. The board doesn't need personal attacks between members, now especially, but really at any time.
