  1. Naked City live.
  2. I still don't get tired of this hit. Quentin Coryatt ended being the #2 overall draft pick because of it, and broke the receiver's jaw in three places. Unfortunately he never did anything in the NFL, and disappeared.
  3. Bireli Lagrene & John McLaughlin doing All Blues Here they are doing Voodoo Chile with Keziah Jones.
  4. It's available used from Amazon.com, for $7.55. edit - that price is supposedly for a new copy, though the seller's rating isn't as high as I'd like, personally. Plenty of other copies available there, though. And some on cduniverse.com too.
  5. I kinda think Mehldau started out that way, and has softened considerably. At least there are no more dissertations in his liner notes.
  6. Dizzy Gillespie - Odyssey 1945-1952 (3 cd set) Eliane Elias - Timeless Miles Davis - Timeless (w/Charlie Parker) John Coltrane/Wilbur Harden - Timeless v/a - "The Most Relaxing Jazz Music in the Universe" v/a - "More of the Most Romantic Jazz Music in the Universe" v/a - "Jazz for a Night on the Town" v/a - "Jazz for when You are not Alone" v/a - "Groovin High - the Ultimate Trumpet Collection" v/a - "First Steps - First Recordings from the Creators of Modern Jazz" v/a - "Birth of Bebop" Kate Bush - Aerial Lou Rawls - Lou Rawls Sings Sinatra Neil Diamond - 12 Songs
  7. I don't know anything about John Zorn's personality, as you apparently seem to. But I've enjoyed the music he's created in his very diverse career so far. I'll support any good music that I come across, and if the "Stone Issue One" cd is indicative of the caliber of music that is being performed at the Stone, I'd be there as often as I could.
  8. Conn, I think I disagree (respectfully). I think Seattle outplayed Pittsburgh, but Pittsburgh won for a couple of reasons - about 3-4 big plays, and some very disputable calls by the refs. And I don't have any dogs in this fight, don't care who won. I think there was a questionable pushing off call on Seattle's first scoring drive - that should have been a TD. And I'd like to see more replays on the play where the Seattle receiver was ruled out of bounds right at the end zone. The ball may have broken the plane before he stepped out. And the play where Seattle's TE Stevens got down to the 1 yrd line but the play was called back by a questionable offensive holding call? Have to question all those. Plus I'm not convinced on Big Ben's TD that the ball ever crossed the plane of the end zone either. Of course, Seattle did some poor things too. The clock management at the end of the 1st half AND the end of the game was crappy. Hasselbeck did throw an INT that hurt. Take away the referee's calls, and this might have been a VERY different game.

    PRINCE

Thanks for that link, John. Wow! That look on Dhani Harrison's face while Prince is soloing is sweet.
  10. It seems to me like Zorn is pretty committed to Masada. The first Masada release came out 12 years ago, and they've been coming out ever since. And Masada is a group effort - Dave Douglas, Joey Baron, Greg Cohen etc. They seem committed to it too. It's not just dipping their toes into something to try it on, from my vantage point. Jazz incorporates all sorts of music from around the world - why can't it incorporate the Jewish heritage as well? I don't see any superficiality or blatant "taking advantage of" going on here. Based on the logic, does this mean Jason Moran (or whomever) shouldn't be taking bits and pieces of his African-American heritage and creating new music and moving forward with it?
  11. Stumbled onto a few ECM on vinyl today, and couldn't leave w/o them: Jan Garbarek - Wayfarer Kenny Wheeler - Double, Double You Keith Jarrett - Survivor's Suite Keith Jarrett - Changes Michael Mantler - Something There Gary Peacock - Tales of Another Kenny Wheeler - Double, Double You Bobby Hutcherson - In the Vanguard (Landmark) Bireli Lagrene - 15 (Antilles)
  12. Love to hear a review of this when you get a chance, Clifford (or anyone else who is going to the Shipp show). Wish I could make it up for this.
  13. You forget that those of us with exquisite taste played Don Cherry's "Mu" too.
  14. I remember how exceptional the public transportation is, in and around Tokyo. You're lucky in that regard! And I remember how difficult it was to get anywhere by car, too. Unfortunately there's really no option to driving a car here. Everything is spread out, and we don't have the small 'mom and pop' type stores close by. There is no public transportation to speak of, and it seems like it's 95 degrees Fahrenheit, with 90% humidity all the time, too, so walking isn't practical (even if things were close by). Once you get out of the 2-3 cities in the country where public transportation is effective (NY, Chicago, DC, etc) the U.S. is definitely a car culture.
  15. I just got another bad disc. I ordered the Evan Parker Electro-Acoustic Ensemble "Toward the Margins" cd, and it just arrived. However, despite even the disc being labelled correctly, the music that bursts forth from my stereo is this:
  16. I just got an email notification that this item shipped on 2 February. Now I'm curious to see if this "new" copy shows up.
  17. I can hear his defense now...."doing research for an upcoming film..."
  18. I thought she did well in "Girl, Interrupted" as well, even though the movie kind of played out like a female version of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". I'd like to see her stretch with some more challenging roles. Heck, I'd pay to watch her stretch, period.
  19. Any love out there for Peter Sellers? Is he worth a corner? I think so! I've loved almost everything I've seen him in, and think he was a genius. Just a few days ago I bought the Pink Panther DVD Collection that originally came out in 2004. It includes all of his Pink Panther flicks with the exception of "The Return of the Pink Panther", for some reason. But the images look great (and it came with a free ticket to the upcoming Steve Martin PP flick). Any time I stumble onto a Sellers film on tv, I become glued to it. And I'm almost ashamed to admit I don't own a dvd of Dr. Strangelove. Gonna have to remedy that soon.
  20. You know, I already have this one. It's been a while since I've dug it out though, guess I forgot what was on it. Thanks for the reminder!
  21. Kenny Burrell - "K.B. Blues", anyone? '57 date with Horace Silver & Hank Mobley. And another vote for "Freedom" with Stan T & Herbie...
  22. Using my rudimentary math skills (I did go to Texas A&M after all), 1 + 8 = 9. If you're counting thumbs, them couw maybe really IS an pirate, and lost a digit to his parrot or something? Conversely, not counting thumbs, perhaps he's an alien or something?
  23. I don't have any Esbjorn Svenson Trio....yet.
