Nightly Live Chat Cd Discussions and BS

I think he HAD the good stuff last night! I looked in his fridge, and this was all I saw this afternoon: -
There's not much at all - if you've been to Corpus I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. The occasional estate sale, and once in a while you may find something in one of the antique shops. We have a Half-Price Books store as well (not a very good one), which is where I picked up the last ones. They appear to be copies that someone who used to be a local DJ back in the early 80's (when we maybe even had a jazz station) decided to unload. These were in decent shape, and the price was right. Beggars can't be choosers...

Thanks Dmitry, that's good to know. I've just been purchasing used vinyl as I stumble onto it, and haven't been actively searching for any. I guess at the price ($3.98) I still probably can't go wrong...I hope.

Couple more today: Elvin Jones - Earth Jones Pat Metheny - PMG Pat Metheny - American Garage Pat Metheny - New Chautauqua Charles Mingus - Let My Children Hear the Music Charles Mingus - Black Saint & Sinner Lady ('86 issue, supposed audiophile vinyl) Charles Mingus - Presents Charles Mingus Thelonious Monk - Genius of Modern Music ('84 edition, with DMM, if that's worth anything sound-wise) and "Havana Jam" on Columbia - 2 LP set with Weather Report, Irakere, Steven Stills, Kris Kristofferson/Rita Coolidge, Trio of Doom (John McLaughlin, Tony Williams, & Jaco Pastorius), and the CBS Allstars (Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Jimmy Heath, Arthur Blythe, Woody Shaw, Hubert Laws, Bobby Hutcherson, Cedar Walton, Percy Heath, & Tony Williams) - this one looks interesting, at least as far as the jazz portion of the lineup...

Someone sent me that link a month or so ago. I found a guy I come in contact with during the week on there a few weeks ago. Not a friend or an acquaintance, but someone I've said hello to before. He operates a small convenience store-type operation near where I work. He's an older man, and was found guilty of sexual contact with two girls, ages 7 & 8. Now that I know this about him, I see him in a completely different light. In fact, if I'm standing in line to purchase a soda or something, I observe him interact with other customers. I've noticed his eyes immediately latch onto the younger females that come into the place, and closely watch them as they walk out as well. It gives me the creeps. It shocked me to find someone I know on there. Part of me feels like I really didn't want to know this about this person. At the same time, I also have an 8 year old daughter. I sure as hell don't want her to come in contact with him. I think this website gets its information directly from the state registries, which are public information in most states apparently. I don't know what the right answer is on the issue. I don't like knowing, but I feel like I need to know.

attn David Gilmour fans - his new album "On an Island" is due out on March 6th. Musicians include Robert Wyatt, Caroline Dale, Guy Pratt, Alasdair Molloy, Richard Wright, David Crosby, and Graham Nash. Other contributors include Jools Holland, Phil Manzanera, Georgie Fame, Andy Newmark, B. J. Cole, Chris Stainton, Willie Wilson and Rado ‘Bob’ Klose on guitar. Gilmour is also going out on the road, and the touring band lineup is Phil Manzanera, Richard Wright, Guy Pratt, Jon Carin, Dick Parry, and Steve DiStanislao. This sounds like it will be a really good show, with both Gilmour and Floyd tunes. And finally, on March 28th, Legacy is reissuing Gilmour's other solo albums, "David Gilmour" and "About Face". Not sure what bonuses will be included yet. edit - personally I can't decide whether I like the album cover, or if it looks too much like a John Tesh cd

He released an album called "The New Standard" in 1995 that was chock full of other people's pop compositions. I don't know if he was being lazy at the time or not, but I enjoy this album for the most part. It's not groundbreaking, but a pleasant enough listen. And he's gone through pop phases - like his current "Possibilities" and 1983's "Future Shock", which came out just after the one you mentioned.

Last year I made a trade with Gokhan (ghnrtg), who lives in France. His package to me arrived quickly, but somehow my package went on the SLOW boat, and took well over a month to arrive (I asked for air mail, but apparently it was shipped via surface or something instead). After a couple of weeks, we both figured it was lost forever, but agreed it wasn't my fault, though I felt bad. I ended up buying him a disc from Leo or Emanem as a result. However, not too long after, my package finally arrived, so he in return he bought me a Wadada Leo Smith disc from Leo.

US group implants electronic tags in workers By Richard Waters in San Francisco Published: February 12 2006 22:02 | Last updated: February 12 2006 22:02 An Ohio company has embedded silicon chips in two of its employees - the first known case in which US workers have been “tagged” electronically as a way of identifying them. CityWatcher.com, a private video surveillance company, said it was testing the technology as a way of controlling access to a room where it holds security video footage for government agencies and the police. Embedding slivers of silicon in workers is likely to add to the controversy over RFID technology, widely seen as one of the next big growth industries. RFID chips – inexpensive radio transmitters that give off a unique identifying signal – have been implanted in pets or attached to goods so they can be tracked in transit. “There are very serious privacy and civil liberty issues of having people permanently numbered,” said Liz McIntyre, who campaigns against the use of identification technology. But Sean Darks, chief executive of CityWatcher, said the glass-encased chips were like identity cards. They are planted in the upper right arm of the recipient, and “read” by a device similar to a cardreader. “There’s nothing pulsing or sending out a signal,” said Mr Darks, who has had a chip in his own arm. “It’s not a GPS chip. My wife can’t tell where I am.” The technology’s defenders say it is acceptable as long as it is not compulsory. But critics say any implanted device could be used to track the “wearer” without their knowledge. VeriChip – the US company that made the devices and claims to have the only chips that have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration – said the implants were designed primarily for medical purposes. So far around 70 people in the US have had the implants, the company said.

check page 6 in this thread Might be better to recommend checking a post by using the post number. Everyone's settings seem to be different - for instance, in my case this thread is only 4 pages long.

Ok, tell me the little guy isn't a ringer.

So this plague, or bird flu, or middle ages thingie....it's selective? Picks out it's victims based on their attitudes and comments in on-line jazz bulletin boards? Maybe it should go after those in the political forums first!

Texas tenor players KICK ASS
Aggie87 replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Miscellaneous Music
IBC is good stuff. Also, people here Texas (and probably many other parts of the U.S.) don't generally get to try it, but root beer has two siblings - birch beer and sarsparilla, both of which are good stuff too. -
...not a definition of music, but someone posted their definition of jazz in a discussion that's been taking place over in a thread at AAJ:
-
Well dang. That means it's only $2.86M. If I saw $2.86M on the street, I'm not sure I'd even stoop to pick it up anymore.

organissimo wins two WYCE Jammie Awards
Aggie87 replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
I don't know if I'm part of the entourage or not, but can i play the Artie Fufkin role? Or better yet, can I play one of a string of bass players in the band that mysteriously died, eventually causing Organissimo to become a three piece?
