  1. Isn't that kind of the definition of a jam band? What more do you expect from them? They aren't a traditional hard bop band. And I realize they're not a traditional Dead/ABB/Widespread etc jam band, but an organ trio jam band, firmly capable of playing jazz. Not my favorite group by any stretch, but I say go and enjoy the show, jazzkat. As a young teenager, why shouldn't you enjoy this?
  2. I've noticed SS1 has posted it a couple of times in the Listening To thread, so maybe he can give you his impressions...
  3. I hope you're right, Moose... My first thought was that this was the return of Musicboy, here to shut us down with his 'connections' within the music business. And I'm not posting that gratuitous picture of musicboy drumming (only cuz i can't find it )
  4. Order placed....now researching home equity loans....
  5. I'm crumbling and placing an order as we speak, dammit... PS - Ordering WAYYY too much too

  8. ... I no longer care which way the roll goes....just make sure it's on there!!! Man Killed Over Toilet Paper MOSS BLUFF, Florida (AP) -- A man was arrested and accused of fatally beating his roommate with hammers because there was no toilet paper in their home, police said. Franklin Paul Crow, 56, was charged Monday with homicide in the death of Kenneth Matthews, 58, according to a spokesman with the Marion County Sheriff's Office. Capt. Thomas Bibb said Crow initially denied his involvement, but later confessed during questioning. Crow told investigators that the men were fighting about the toilet paper over the weekend when Matthews pulled out a rifle. Crow said he then began beating Matthews with the sledgehammer and claw hammer, according to an affidavit. Matthews was beaten so badly he had to be identified through his fingerprints, detectives said. Crow was being held at the Marion County jail without bond. It was not immediately known whether he had an attorney.
  9. Happy Birthday from a former Hessian (and Schwab) in Texas!
  10. Yeah, what Mark said, times two!!
  11. bumpin this for the Tim Ries content. I just picked up his Rolling Stones Project, upon which it seems everyone and their dog guested. I like Ries' playing throughout, moreso on tenor than soprano (though I think that problem is in my ears more than in Ries' horn). But I really like the contributions of Bill Frisell and Ben Monder the most, I think. Monder is on 3 tracks, and Frisell is on 4.
  12. Happy B-Day, and many more, Sandy!! :rsmile:
  13. ....apparently your original source corrected their image, Rooster!
  14. There's been a bit of discussion about Hill's upcoming album in this thread. I'm looking forward to this one!
  15. I think he HAD the good stuff last night! I looked in his fridge, and this was all I saw this afternoon:
  16. There's not much at all - if you've been to Corpus I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. The occasional estate sale, and once in a while you may find something in one of the antique shops. We have a Half-Price Books store as well (not a very good one), which is where I picked up the last ones. They appear to be copies that someone who used to be a local DJ back in the early 80's (when we maybe even had a jazz station) decided to unload. These were in decent shape, and the price was right. Beggars can't be choosers...
  17. Thanks Dmitry, that's good to know. I've just been purchasing used vinyl as I stumble onto it, and haven't been actively searching for any. I guess at the price ($3.98) I still probably can't go wrong...I hope.
  18. Couple more today: Elvin Jones - Earth Jones Pat Metheny - PMG Pat Metheny - American Garage Pat Metheny - New Chautauqua Charles Mingus - Let My Children Hear the Music Charles Mingus - Black Saint & Sinner Lady ('86 issue, supposed audiophile vinyl) Charles Mingus - Presents Charles Mingus Thelonious Monk - Genius of Modern Music ('84 edition, with DMM, if that's worth anything sound-wise) and "Havana Jam" on Columbia - 2 LP set with Weather Report, Irakere, Steven Stills, Kris Kristofferson/Rita Coolidge, Trio of Doom (John McLaughlin, Tony Williams, & Jaco Pastorius), and the CBS Allstars (Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Jimmy Heath, Arthur Blythe, Woody Shaw, Hubert Laws, Bobby Hutcherson, Cedar Walton, Percy Heath, & Tony Williams) - this one looks interesting, at least as far as the jazz portion of the lineup...
  19. Someone sent me that link a month or so ago. I found a guy I come in contact with during the week on there a few weeks ago. Not a friend or an acquaintance, but someone I've said hello to before. He operates a small convenience store-type operation near where I work. He's an older man, and was found guilty of sexual contact with two girls, ages 7 & 8. Now that I know this about him, I see him in a completely different light. In fact, if I'm standing in line to purchase a soda or something, I observe him interact with other customers. I've noticed his eyes immediately latch onto the younger females that come into the place, and closely watch them as they walk out as well. It gives me the creeps. It shocked me to find someone I know on there. Part of me feels like I really didn't want to know this about this person. At the same time, I also have an 8 year old daughter. I sure as hell don't want her to come in contact with him. I think this website gets its information directly from the state registries, which are public information in most states apparently. I don't know what the right answer is on the issue. I don't like knowing, but I feel like I need to know.

  21. attn David Gilmour fans - his new album "On an Island" is due out on March 6th. Musicians include Robert Wyatt, Caroline Dale, Guy Pratt, Alasdair Molloy, Richard Wright, David Crosby, and Graham Nash. Other contributors include Jools Holland, Phil Manzanera, Georgie Fame, Andy Newmark, B. J. Cole, Chris Stainton, Willie Wilson and Rado ‘Bob’ Klose on guitar. Gilmour is also going out on the road, and the touring band lineup is Phil Manzanera, Richard Wright, Guy Pratt, Jon Carin, Dick Parry, and Steve DiStanislao. This sounds like it will be a really good show, with both Gilmour and Floyd tunes. And finally, on March 28th, Legacy is reissuing Gilmour's other solo albums, "David Gilmour" and "About Face". Not sure what bonuses will be included yet. edit - personally I can't decide whether I like the album cover, or if it looks too much like a John Tesh cd
  22. Tillykke med Fødselsdagen! (i hope that says Happy Birthday! )
