  3. He released an album called "The New Standard" in 1995 that was chock full of other people's pop compositions. I don't know if he was being lazy at the time or not, but I enjoy this album for the most part. It's not groundbreaking, but a pleasant enough listen. And he's gone through pop phases - like his current "Possibilities" and 1983's "Future Shock", which came out just after the one you mentioned.
  4. Last year I made a trade with Gokhan (ghnrtg), who lives in France. His package to me arrived quickly, but somehow my package went on the SLOW boat, and took well over a month to arrive (I asked for air mail, but apparently it was shipped via surface or something instead). After a couple of weeks, we both figured it was lost forever, but agreed it wasn't my fault, though I felt bad. I ended up buying him a disc from Leo or Emanem as a result. However, not too long after, my package finally arrived, so he in return he bought me a Wadada Leo Smith disc from Leo.
  5. And part of the Art Pepper Galaxy box!

  7. US group implants electronic tags in workers By Richard Waters in San Francisco Published: February 12 2006 22:02 | Last updated: February 12 2006 22:02 An Ohio company has embedded silicon chips in two of its employees - the first known case in which US workers have been “tagged” electronically as a way of identifying them. CityWatcher.com, a private video surveillance company, said it was testing the technology as a way of controlling access to a room where it holds security video footage for government agencies and the police. Embedding slivers of silicon in workers is likely to add to the controversy over RFID technology, widely seen as one of the next big growth industries. RFID chips – inexpensive radio transmitters that give off a unique identifying signal – have been implanted in pets or attached to goods so they can be tracked in transit. “There are very serious privacy and civil liberty issues of having people permanently numbered,” said Liz McIntyre, who campaigns against the use of identification technology. But Sean Darks, chief executive of CityWatcher, said the glass-encased chips were like identity cards. They are planted in the upper right arm of the recipient, and “read” by a device similar to a cardreader. “There’s nothing pulsing or sending out a signal,” said Mr Darks, who has had a chip in his own arm. “It’s not a GPS chip. My wife can’t tell where I am.” The technology’s defenders say it is acceptable as long as it is not compulsory. But critics say any implanted device could be used to track the “wearer” without their knowledge. VeriChip – the US company that made the devices and claims to have the only chips that have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration – said the implants were designed primarily for medical purposes. So far around 70 people in the US have had the implants, the company said.
  8. check page 6 in this thread Might be better to recommend checking a post by using the post number. Everyone's settings seem to be different - for instance, in my case this thread is only 4 pages long.
  9. Ok, tell me the little guy isn't a ringer.
  10. So this plague, or bird flu, or middle ages thingie....it's selective? Picks out it's victims based on their attitudes and comments in on-line jazz bulletin boards? Maybe it should go after those in the political forums first!
  11. Surely you can't be serious!
  12. IBC is good stuff. Also, people here Texas (and probably many other parts of the U.S.) don't generally get to try it, but root beer has two siblings - birch beer and sarsparilla, both of which are good stuff too.
  13. ...not a definition of music, but someone posted their definition of jazz in a discussion that's been taking place over in a thread at AAJ:
  14. Well dang. That means it's only $2.86M. If I saw $2.86M on the street, I'm not sure I'd even stoop to pick it up anymore.
  15. I don't know if I'm part of the entourage or not, but can i play the Artie Fufkin role? Or better yet, can I play one of a string of bass players in the band that mysteriously died, eventually causing Organissimo to become a three piece?
  16. Bwahahahaha! Lord Opia got you! .....You're really only splitting $8.58M.
  17. Why are they bothering to make a one cd compilation from what was only a 2 cd release to start with? I would much rather purchase the 2 disc set (based on how much I like their previous release), but wish the price was better. Doesn't make sense to me that it's the same price as the 3 cd set.
  18. My guess is that your friend is referring to the upcoming DeJohnette/Scofield/Goldings "Trio Beyond" release that 7/4 mentioned earlier in this thread. No Holland on this. It's due out on 9 June. I think I remember seeing tour dates for this group on Sco's website, but it's been down for a while (at least I can't get there).
  19. Interesting news from the MMW website: Pure guess on my part, but I bet this is an MMW release this time around. Also does this mean MMW is no longer on BN?
  20. Do you happen to have a direct link? I didn't see it on their site.
  21. You people all sound like you don't have young kids I'm there once a week on average with my two young'uns. Usually it's because of a tight time-schedule one evening per week, and it's very conveniently located, otherwise I'd avoid the place. I never go there when my kids aren't with me. Blech!
  22. up.... In addition to the Dave Douglas show in Austin, board member Free For All is playing in San Marcos this Saturday, Feb 11th. I'd love to get up to San Marcos (lived there for a year and a half, beautiful town) for this performance, but unfortunately won't be able to make it.
  23. If anyone's in the area, board member Free For All will be performing in San Marcos at the Texas State University Jazz Festival on Saturday as well. I wish I could see both!
  24. Way to go, Jim, Joe & Randy! Of what? Previously recorded show?
  25. Dude, that's awesome... ... not. One more reason football sucks. Sorry you don't like football. It doesn't suck. I sympathise with the guy who got hurt...and indeed with all of the guys who have had career ending injuries (Reggie Brown, Dennis Byrd, whoever). It's a violent sport, and the people who voluntarily play it know that. edit - I apologize for including that clip in this thread however, since I started it for the purpose of sharing music clips.
