  2. Made it up to Austin for the Scofield gig last night at Antone's. For anyone considering going to a show on this tour, go for it! The Ray Charles tribute was alot of fun. Not a straight-ahead gig by any means, the show (much like the album) had people dancing and grooving around the club all night long. Highlights for me were a beautiful version of "Georgia on my Mind" and "I can't stop loving you". Scofield was in fine form, even though there were technical difficulties on the intro song, "Talkin' Bout You/I got a Woman"...to the point where he stopped the band, they all left the stage until things were fixed, then came back and resumed mid-song. Sco grooved all night, and coaxed some amazing sounds out of his guitar more than a few times. The band was great - Meyer Statham sang the tunes with vocals from the CD, and also played trombone occasionally. He's a fine singer, and sang the heck out of Ray's songs. Gary Versace was great on B-3 and Wurlitzer. He traded licks a few times with Sco, and it was clear they were having fun together. John Benitez on bass was a fine player as well, not active or showy, but a solid player. The guy standing next to me at the bar (more on him later) said Benitez is a Grammy winner. Not sure from what, but I'll have to check him out. And Steve Hass was solid on drums - he was clearly having a good time as well. After the last song, the band came out for an encore, and brought suprise guest Ivan Neville out on stage with them. They played "Night Time is the Right Time", and really grooved out. Ivan was enjoying being up there on stage with the band and added a nice touch to the song. Back to the guy at the bar - he had brought a guitar case in with him and was standing there with it. We made small talk for a while, and I finally asked him about the guitar. He said it was Sco's very first electric guitar, from when he was a teenager, and that John had sold it to the bass player in his first band way back when. That bass player had given it to the guy at the bar, and he brought it with him to the show for Sco to check out. Well, after the performance was over, Sco came out, and started talking with this guy in great detail about the guitar (looked like a Strat of some sort...didn't get a good look at it). He then plugged it in and played on it for a bit, just noodling around. You could tell he was enjoying seeing it and playing it again after all that time (35+ yrs?). I talked with Sco a bit, as well as Ivan Neville and the band. John was kind enough to sign the picture that Mark Sheldon had taken of him last year at the Indy Jazz Fest, on the matte. It looks great, and will be re-framed and proudly displayed once again! Thanks again, Mark! A great night of music for me, and alot of fun! Would love to meet up with some of the TX boardmembers for a show in Austin some day.
  3. Just to make you feel better (?), from Sco's website: I know you don't care for Scofield, but calling him a prick seems a little harsh...
  4. I have and like the Lloyd, as well. He sounds fine, and I like Geri Allen's contributions as well. Well worth the $5.99 for anyone who doesn't own it. I don't have the Gustaven, and haven't seen any reviews either, but for that price it's already been ordered.
  5. Couple of new ECMs! Tord Gustavsen Trio - The Ground Charles Lloyd - Jumping the Creek by the way...i ordered the Round About Midnight Legacy Edition when I first noticed it... it had been on backorder ever since, and just got cancelled today. Going to re-order it and see if the ol juju works and it comes through this time.

Out of curiousity, which are those 2, in your eyes?
  7. I think this belongs in your signature, Lon!!!

    Phish Corner

At one point I had almost all of their studio recordings, as well as the couple of live albums before they went crazy releasing every damn show they ever played. I even had "Hampton Comes Alive" with it's cover of "Gettin Jiggy with It" and a boot of their "White Album" show before it was officially released. But somewhere along the way I found myself not really enjoying alot of it..with the exception of "A Live One" and "Farmhouse" for some reason. I kept those two, and sold/traded off the rest, and still feel like I have enough Phish to keep me happy for a while. I think they're fine rock musicians, but just didn't connect as much as I initially thought.
  9. Anybody ever checked out the Buc's website before? The intro is great, and now I'm wondering if they do this all season long... Tampa Bay Bucs website
  10. Is it cheating to use compilations as you do? Or was there any discussion about that?
  11. Oettinger!! Used to be able to buy a "kiste" of Oettinger for less than half of what a good rack cost. And the good getraenkemarkts never sold it anyway, in my area!!
  12. I don't like damaged cd booklets. In fact, a soda accidentally leaked out on my copy of Reuben Wilson's "Love Bug" while in a bag, and damaged the back cover insert. It annoys me every time I see it. But is this guy going too far? This is from the SH forum...
  13. Ok...I have both the "Golden Road" and "Beyond Description" boxes. I've got the GD Movie Soundtrack. I've got the Closing of Winterland thing. Got a couple of Dick's Picks even. Plenty of multi disc sets there. WHY is it I keep looking at this, feel overwhelmed that it's too much, and shy away from ordering?
  14. I thought this band had a guitarist. ← Wise guy, eh?
  15. "John Scofield Plays the Music of Ray Charles" Meyer Statham-Vocals and Trombone John Benitez-Bass Gary Versace-Hammond B3 and Wurlitzer Steve Hass-Drums

  20. $5.99 plus free shipping when u buy 5 or more: Code C5FS6 ..Basically getting you the "yourmusic" price. But there might be some discs that BMG has that yourmusic doesn't. I know that's the case with some of the box sets, but not so sure about the individual discs.

My last Sco show was in 2000 (or maybe early 01) just before "Works for Me" came out, so it was the Bump tour.
  23. Found a copy on Ebay, and there is definitely an ECM logo up at top left. Curious...
