  1. Moss with Moss's work ethic is no big deal. Sure he had 130 yds last night, but his team lost. He should be the difference maker with his talent, and he's not. Wasn't for the Vikings, and won't be for the Raiders. ...IMO.
  2. ..just noticed on Alan's site: Sept 27: Brad Mehldau Trio - Day is Done Appears Jeff Ballard is now the drummer in the trio, replacing Jorge Rossy. This one includes covers of "Alfie", "Martha My Dear", "She's Leaving Home", and "50 Ways to Leave your Lover".
  3. My Aggies laid an egg at Clemson on Saturday night, losing 25-24 on a last second field goal. The offense let me down in the first half (but played ALOT better in the 2nd), the defense underwhelmed me the whole time, and the coaching could be at least partially to blame for the loss. Franchione opted not to go for a two point conversion attempt after the touchdown that put A&M ahead. That would have given them a 3 point lead, and the subsequent end-of-game field goal that Clemson scored would have only tied it up, not won it. Still have hopes for them, but it was particularly frustrating to watch. As Oklahoma also lost, this puts Texas in the early driver's seat for the Big 12 South, as was expected. But they have a good game coming up this weekend with Ohio State, so that will be a better challenge for Texas than Louisiana-Lafayette was.
  4. Happy Birthday, from your friends in Corpus Christi... ...and Stuttgart:
  5. You're picking games after they've been played
  6. Cowboys signed WR Peerless Price to a 1 yr deal today. Hopefully getting away from the Falcons will allow a return of his solid #2 WR skills that Atlanta never saw. Looks like this means the end of Quincy Morgan's time in Dallas. He's the guy they traded away Antonio Bryant to the Browns for. Bryant is apparently the #1 WR in Cleveland this year, and Morgan couldn't make the top 4 for the Cowboys. I think the biggest question left in Dallas is how the O-Line will perform. That will make or break Dallas' season, what with the Statue of Bledsoe playing QB. If they give him time, Cowboys will be a solid playoff contender. Their D is gonna be VERY good again this year.

    Mizell?

Just a question - the people who are the target audience for sampled music - aren't they generally a different population than jazz fans? I realize there may be a bit of overlap, but it seems to be two different groups in general.
  8. Baton Rouge still apparently has no electricity, as well. I just spoke to a friend of mine who lives there...his family has a generator, so they are able to keep the refrigerator going at least. They don't know how long they'll be without electricity there though. Another friend of mine lives in northern LA, but she grew up in New Orleans. Her parent's home there is totally destroyed, as is the house she grew up in (different one). When they finally get the flood problem solved, what will people be able to go back to?
  9. If that is an accurate, in context quote, then "appaling" is nowhere near adequate a description. ← Rice: All Foreign Aid Offers Will Be Accepted Thursday, September 01 Associated Press WASHINGTON — In a dramatic turnabout, the United States is now on the receiving end of help from around the world as some two dozen countries offer post-hurricane assistance. Venezuela, a target of frequent criticism by the Bush administration, offered humanitarian aid and fuel. Venezuela's Citgo Petroleum Corp. (search) pledged a $1 million donation for hurricane aid. With offers from the four corners of the globe pouring in, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (search) has decided "no offer that can help alleviate the suffering of the people in the afflicted area will be refused," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Thursday. However, in Moscow, a Russian official said the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency had rejected a Russian offer to dispatch rescue teams and other aid. On Tuesday, President Vladimir Putin (search) sent condolences to President Bush and said Russia was prepared to help if asked. Boats, aircraft, tents, blankets, generators, cash assistance and medical teams have been offered to the U.S. government in Washington or in embassies overseas. Offers have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States, the spokesman said. Still, Bush told ABC-TV: "I'm not expecting much from foreign nations because we hadn't asked for it. I do expect a lot of sympathy and perhaps some will send cash dollars. But this country's going to rise up and take care of it." "You know," he said, "we would love help, but we're going to take care of our own business as well, and there's no doubt in my mind we'll succeed. And there's no doubt in my mind, as I sit here talking to you, that New Orleans is going to rise up again as a great city." Historically, the United States provides assistance to other countries experiencing earthquakes, floods and other disasters. Germany, which was rebuilt after World War II largely by the U.S. Marshall Plan, offered its help in a telephone call to Rice. "The German Government is prepared to do all that is humanly possible," the German embassy said. In his call, German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer assured Rice of Germany's solidarity with its American friends in a difficult time, the embassy said. Israeli Ambassador Daniel Ayalon called Wednesday at the State Department to offer condolences and assistance. Israel is the largest recipient of U.S. aid, about $2.2 billion a year.
  10. I've read reports that Texas has offered the Alamodome up as well. But I've also read reports that the Alamodome is under consideration for the Saints as their "home" stadium this season. So that wouldn't work if there are evacuees living there.
  11. I like Jarrett's music. Solo, trio, quartets, etc. The grunting stuff doesn't bother me enough to distract from the music at all. I'm not really interested in his personality or opinions or such, and even so can separate that from the music. Elling I have no interest in, and generally agree with the hipster/poseur comments.
  12. Spurs just picked up Michael Finley, who will apparently be first off the bench behind Ginobili & Bowen. He should be anyway, as he's clearly superior to Brent Barry. CNN/SI said they also picked up Nick Van Exel this off season, which I had previously missed.
  13. I have the Chips CD, and love the whole thing! The Psonic Psunspot tracks are every bit as good as the 25 o'clock stuff!
  14. I understand the intent behind this...but if you're a home/land owner in the N.O. area, how would you feel? Technically you still own that piece of submerged land. And it may have been in your family for generations. What if you own it, but still have 25 years left to pay on it? Would you be able to walk away from that mortgage? And if N.O. was somehow able to be rebuilt elsewhere, would you be "given" a comparable piece of land, somehow?
  15. I don't know if this qualifies or not... My kids love the Shrek flicks, and the songs from it. So while shopping yesterday, I picked up Smash Mouth's "All Star Smash Hits" compilation for them. They love the songs they recognize, don't really care about the rest. But I find myself actually kinda enjoying this. All Star, Walkin on the Sun, Can't Get Enough of you Baby...plus covers of I'm a Believer, Why Can't We Be Friends, Do It Again, and Getting Better. It's fun, derivative pop rock. So shoot me...but my kids and I were all shakin our tail feathers to this yesterday, having a blast.
  16. Nothing much again: Jamie Cullum - Twenty Something (dualdisc) Keren Ann - Nolita (is she another BN Norah?) Adrian Belew - Side One Jefferson Airplane - The Essential Widespread Panic - Live at Myrtle Beach Michael McDonald - Motown Two Paul Westerberg - Besterberg/Best of I'm going to jump on the Belew...maybe the JA, but that's it.
  17. It's also available in longbox format for less than $6 per cd from yourmusic.com. I like the looks of the metal spine versions, and have all of them. But if I were just starting out on these, I'm sure at yourmusic's price I'd go with the longboxes instead. I also agree about that Herbie Hancock clear cube thing. What were they thinking??
  18. After 3 preseason games, I can say I am really liking Dallas' defense. And that D is still without Jason Ferguson and 1st rd pick Marcus Spears. I think they'll only get better. Terence Newman seems to be back, Roy Williams is HITTING people again too. Alot of the rookies on defense will make significant contributions this year i think - esp. Demarcus Ware, but also Burnett & Canty. However, the offense is going to be a concern again this year. I don't think the offense line will give Bledsoe enough time to get his passes off. Bledsoe's not mobile at all at this point, if he ever really was. And it doesn't look like he's established much of a rapport with Keyshawn, or any other receiver not named Terry Glenn for that matter. They might almost be better off with Tony Romo back there...at least he can run around a bit. And he seems to be settling down and playing pretty well, too. Drew Henson hasn't shown anything to the coaches to show that he's ready to be a player yet.
  19. Appears you've got some competition in New Zealand as well:
  20. How about going for the animal lover contingency for a website splash page?
  21. Mosaic is a pimp, and we're addicted to it's wares. Mosaic Records' pimp name is "Fadeproof Mosaic Ice".
  22. Here are a couple that I just noticed: Dave Brubeck - London Sharp, London Flat Drew Gress - 7 Black Butterflies (w/Berne & Alessi) ...man, seems like the yourmusic.com well has been pretty dry as of late.
  23. Ricky Talks About Marijuana, Mighty Mouse DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- Marijuana's out, and so is military service, although President Bush is nice. Football is hard work but could become fun and leads to freedom. Shaving is vain, money's not a problem and that Mighty Mouse tattoo on the left arm stirs memories of walking Venice Beach with a girl at age 16. Ricky Williams may have set an NFL record Wednesday for most topics tackled in a 15-minute interview. He smiled frequently during his weekly media session, an indication that all is well in Williams' universe, which makes the Miami Dolphins happy. "I was sitting at home last night and thinking if there was anywhere in the world I'd rather be or anything I'd rather be doing," he said. "And the answer was there was nothing. "I've gotten to a point where I realize that happiness doesn't come from the outside. So whether I was back in California or had $10 million or whatever I was doing, it wouldn't make me any happier than I am now." Motivated at least partly by the need for a paycheck, the 2002 NFL rushing champion ended his one-year retirement and rejoined the Dolphins on July 25. Williams has rushed for only 56 yards in three exhibition games, and because he must sit out the first four regular-season games for violating the NFL substance abuse policy, it'll be nearly eight weeks before he plays when it counts. Maybe that's why few of the questions at his interview session involved football. Another factor in the wide range of subjects was the presence of a 60 Minutes camera crew and Mike Wallace, who did a story on Williams late last year. This time Williams declined a one-on-one interview with CBS, so Wallace took part in a group session with a roomful of reporters and cameramen. Wallace had to ask Williams how to pronounce Dolphins coach Nick Saban's name, but did inspire expansive comments from the mercurial running back, such as on the subject of Bush. "When I was in school, at the time he was the governor of Texas," said Williams, who won the 1998 Heisman Trophy at the University of Texas. "Sometimes he would work out in our weight room. I had a chance to talk to him a couple of times. I was lifting, he was just riding a bike. I think he's a nice person." The interview had the flow of a Dolphins offensive series, meaning it proceeded fitfully, but Williams moved gamely from topic to topic: • He said he doesn't miss marijuana. "I can't do that anymore. I get tested twice a week." • He owes the Dolphins $8.6 million for breaching his contract by retiring last year, but said he doesn't know his financial situation. "I have no idea. The way I live my life, if I have a place to stay and I have food on the table, I'm not broke." • He said he doesn't think about the war in Iraq and won't join the military. "There's a war outside, but I think there's also a war inside all of us. When you talk about world peace and people doing all these things for peace, and they want peace and want to be treated fairly, I think it really starts with yourself and looking for the peace inside yourself. When each of us can do that, then the peace spreads outward." • He said he's not having fun since returning to football, but doesn't mind. "You look across from fun and you see work. The fun is the result of hard work. If you work hard you get to the fun. ... The process of coming to work every day gives me more and more freedom." • Teammates tease him about his scruffy beard, saying he looks homeless, but he sees no reason to shave. "Some people have a job, some people's wives don't like it, some people are uncomfortable with it. But I don't have a reason to shave." • His first tattoo was Mighty Mouse in green and gold, his San Diego high school's colors. "I was at Venice Beach with my girlfriend at the time, and I said it would be cool to get a tattoo. The way I look at them, they're somewhat of a map. You see a tattoo, and you think back to a time in your life." Mike Ditka and Dave Wannstedt invested heavily in Williams, and both are now out of the NFL, earning him a reputation as a coach killer. But he has hit it off with Saban, who said Williams' work ethic ranks with the best on the team. Saban also said he respects Williams' enigmatic views. "With differences in people and personalities, I don't think we're in a business where one size fits all," Saban said. "In this day and age, your ability to get different kinds of people to play well together and develop chemistry and enjoy what they're doing is probably a key to being successful."
  24. I can't tell from the pics posted in here, but does anyone know if this thing has a metal spine, or is it like the Silent Way box?
