I just picked this set up about a week ago (got a good price, even cheaper than Dmitry's!). Was this ever released domestically? There are used copies available at half.com for $250 I like this recording quite a bit, though Miles clearly isn't the dominant instrument.

Jim - I just recently picked up "Noisy Old Men" by John Abercrombie/Mick Goodrick/Steve Swallow/Gary Chaffee. Didn't notice it was one of your recordings (and your label?) until I got home with it. I'm really enjoying this recording, and was just wondering if you had any interesting info to share about this session. Thanks, Erik

Christmas time brought two nice music items to me. One was the Miles Cellar Door box, and the other is John Scofield's "Bar Talk" on cd. I finally nabbed this from ebay (paid more than I'd like to have, but less than I originally was planning to pay (former Org member Grey had tentatively found a copy for me a while back, just before he passed). This was only released on cd in Japan, to the best of my knowledge. This was the last Sco leader date on CD that I'd been looking for, so now my collection is complete. Kinda bittersweet, but an accomplishment of sorts. It's a nice trio date with Swallow & Nussbaum, by the way.

Wanted to mention the Freddy Fender/Flaco Jimenez - Dos Amigos, and Anoushka Shankar (she's Norah Jones' sister, donchaknow) - Rise. Also, my backordered (a couple times) Adrian Belew "Side Two" just showed up, in case anyone else is looking for that one.

Cowboys just pulled out an exciting win vs. Panthers, 24-20. Peppers got called for running into the kicked vs. Billy Cundiff (who SUCKS). Had Cundiff made the kick, it would have only tied the game, but it gave the 'Boys a 1st down and they went on to score the winning TD. Steve Smith got ejected for bumping a ref (it wasn't a big bump, but the refs obviously felt otherwise - maybe he said something bad). Might have been the difference in the game. Cowboys are 9-6 now. Dunno even if they win vs. Rams next weekend if they can make the playoffs, but outside of that laffer vs. Redskins last weekend they've played tough all year.

I believe if this had shipped USPS it would have already arrived here in Corpus Christi, too. This package shipped on Monday....nothing at all happened on Tuesday or Thursday. It appears to have sat somewhere both days. As well as yesterday and today for the most part. I'm going to be out of town next week too, so when it DOES arrive I hope they leave it and don't return to sender.

I wonder if mine is on the truck with yours. My tracking says it left Austin over 15 hours ago, but there is no update since then. Maybe the box decided to head down to Laredo for a quick margarita or three on the way....

I don't understand why this should disqualify this recording from being on a "best of year" list at all. The majority of the listening public are probably hearing this for the first time.

Some are with metal spine and some are not? The Silent Way box does not have a metal spine, nor does the Cellar Door box, apparently. But they look similar to the other boxes in the series. The Blackhawk and Plugged Nickel boxes are not of the same design as the other Columbia boxes.

Thanks Brownie! If these sets don't have the advertising that Miles' estate was apparently insisting upon, it makes me wonder if some sort of payoff wasn't involved. Especially because of the "suddenness" of these things arriving in the marketplace now.
