  1. ....since 3 years you Dutch guys have been correcting our English now. B-)
  2. FYI - Stefon Harris' "Evolution" has just showed up in the new arrivals section. Also in there is Living Colour's "Live from CBGB's", and a number of those "Gold" compilations...
  3. Thanks, y'all! The big 4-0 was kinda scaring me, but about half-way through the day, and I still feel as youthful (immature?) as ever. I live in a city that's predominantly Hispanic (like 70%). Around here it's traditional to bring breakfast tacos in to work when it's your birthday, so I thought I'd share a round here as well! Of course, since we have so many folks from different time zones (and for those who like beer with breakfast), it wouldn't be right to offer these without some liquid refreshment, so one of my favorite Mexican beers might be in order as well: PS - I didn't get the Aggie joke B-)
  4. I apologize for my earlier thread-crap, since it didn't really relate to Mosaics, but I still stand behind it. I try to read with my kids every night, stimulate their thinking, imagination, and creativity. I know music can do this as well - it does for me. But I also think that kids should be challenged by reading - the benefits are worth far more than the effort it takes to sit down and spend some quiet time with a book (or in ol' BNBB/Hardbop terms, a "tome" ). In some ways this might help improve the poor attention span that seems to exist in younger folks today (which also may be partially causing the dumbing-down of popular music as well?). Done with thread-crap #2...
  5. The thing that bothers me about this concept is that I still think of Ebay as an auction site. Meaning I compete against other bidders, and get to decide if I want to outbid them. With sniping, you don't get a chance to respond to someone else's last-second bid. edit - what sniping does is effectively turn ebay into a sealed-bid auction, I guess.
  6. I admire your enthusiasm for the music, which I think most of us here share. But if this is all you're reading, you are seriously missing out. There's a wonderful world of fiction/non-fiction/poetry/classic lit/contemporary out there, just waiting to blow your mind. Hell, start with some graphic novels or something if books don't jazz you too much.
  7. Okay, I've started seeing some info coming out on the new album, so I thought I'd share what I know... Unchain My Heart Part One 10. Let's Go Get Stoned 11. Nighttime (Is The Right Time) 12. You Don't Know Me 13. Georgia Personally, I'm really looking forward to this. On paper it looks like it has the potential to be a really fun listen. Joe G. and I both discussed previously that John Mayer didn't seem to fit with the rest of the crew, but we'll see I guess. Another note - due in 2006 is "Lifetime and Beyond", a Tony Williams celebration, featuring Scofield, Jack DeJohnette, and Larry Goldings.
  8. Here's the crazy lady who was standing atop the biplane...
  9. This is the one that's older than I am
  10. Another one...
  11. Flying in formation...
  12. I took my kids to the annual Air Show here at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi. We had alot of fun wandering around, looking at all of the various current and historical military aircraft. One vintage plane was 62 yrs old, and I got to hear from my daughter, "Daddy, that plane's even older than YOU are!!" We got to see stunt biplanes, jet demonstrations, and helcopter flyovers. One of the biplane skits included a lady climbing up atop the upper wing while the plane did it's maneuvers and loop-de-loops. The finale of the air show itself was the Blue Angels. They used to be home based here at NAS CC(from '51-'55), so they still remain popular locally. They were fantastic, and made me feel like a kid all over again, watching them fly so tightly together at such high speeds. Gonna try and post a couple of pictures, if I can get them sized small enough for upload.
  13. I'd guess the Hill and the two Rivers Conn's would be next. Heck, any other Conn's they may have too. I don't remember which ones they currently have other than those three.
  14. GA - They haven't taken the next item on my list (Wilco - A Ghost is Born) and bumped it up from May to April, as far as I can tell. So I guess I'm essentially skipping my automatic shipment for April. Now if I get my credit card statement and see a charge on there, I'm not gonna be real happy about that! Kinda squirrely...
  15. Hey!! That Hutcherson was in my queue for this month, and was supposed to ship to me on April 6th! I just checked after seeing your post, and my Hutcherson order status shows as "cancelled" I would have ordered it a month or two ago, had I known it was going to disappear so quickly. May have to go through my 40+ queue and see if there are any other BN's or anything that might have a short shelf life at yourmusic.

  17. I have to disagree with your general comment about live music spinning off of studio music. That may be the case for some artists, but I can think of any number of musicians in the jazz arena (and out of it) who's live music - and recordings of that music - transcend their studio work. I agree with relyles comments above. There are good studio recordings, and there are good live recordings. I'm glad to have both, and don't see a need to pick one over the other, or even compare them.
  18. I'm neither a big Kobe fan nor detractor, skill wise. Are you sort of saying he's a great complimentary player, but not necessarily a great superstar who can carry a team all by himself?

  20. Joe - see this thread. Alot of discussion...
  21. Do I hear a second for "Freebird" as a hidden track on the new cd?
  22. Man, I got a sunburn yesterday, and you guys up north are still wearing earmuffs?? B-)
  23. I think this is a GREAT idea, Jim! I just signed up!
  24. Very nice story, Al! That's some bonding that will stay with you both for the rest of your life. I'm helping coach my daughter's kickball team right now (i know i know, kickball you say, but it's an organized league, and very popular with girls here, they even have adult leagues). The team is all beginners, 6-8 years old, but they're having alot of fun, and learning to work together as a team. It's fun for me as well, and while we haven't had any special moments like you did, I would regret if I didn't try to be as involved in my kid's lives like this as they grow up.
  25. okay wes, nobody else has asked, so I will. What's that gun for? :rsmile:
