  2. Che with all due respect, you've only been here for a month. I'm glad you've never found it to be cantankerous in your 40 days here. Alot of folks here have been chatting with one another for 4-5 years, and more in some cases. And on the subject of the thread, excepting the Politics forum, this board isn't cantankerous at all, I don't believe. I find it interesting, because in "real" life, most people don't continually discuss or argue politics with friends and associates who have differing opinions and beliefs than themselves. At least that's been my experience. Yet we continue to bait each other here, and seemingly on purpose. I don't really see the point, to be honest. My sister and I don't see eye to eye on certain things, and we know not to discuss those topics with each other when we visit. All it has the effect of doing is to make the things we don't have in common become a barrier between us, instead of strengthening the bonds through the things we have in common.

    larry coryell

up.... I just picked up a relatively hard to find 1979 recording from Larry Coryell titled "Tributaries", which is an all acoustic recording, with Coryell, John Scofield, and Joe Beck. Coryell plays 6 & 12 string, while Sco & Beck are both on 6 string guitars. Includes a cover of Bobby Hutcherson's "Little B's Poem" and Coltrane's "Equinox". Very nice recording, which was originally produced by one Michael Cuscuna. I picked up the Japanese import version of this (from 2004 apparently, a little hard to tell), from Dusty Groove for $12.99. Haven't seen it elsewhere for anywhere near this price...

  5. Lon - I've never heard Morelenbaum, I don't think. What kind of music is that? I'd be willing to risk $4.99 to try her out...
  6. A couple of new listings today, though not much in the way of jazz: Wynton Marsalis - Unforgivable Blackness The Cure - Three Imaginary Boys (Deluxe Edition) Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
  7. A new Tommy Smith album has just come out, titled "Evolution". This one has a solid lineup - Scofield, Lovano, John Taylor, Patitucci, and Stewart. Anybody heard this yet? This is the third Smith album that Scofield has played on, none of which I've purchased yet. How are Smith's releases? Any fans here? edit - apparently this is a re-release (?) of a 2003 recording. Just found the old Tommy Smith Evolution thread. Thought it sounded familiar!!
  8. For anyone interested, there are currently three Widespread Panic shows available for free download at Livewidespreadpanic.com. These are recent shows (24-26 March) from Atlanta, and are only available for a limited time apparently.
  9. Catesta - Can I come eat Easter dinner with you next year?? YUM!
  10. ....don't forget to insure it for $2.00 B-)
  11. ....how does the laser get in there and read the music on that big black shiny thing?? B-) j/k, congrats on a great find Dan!!
  12. Actually it WOULD be nice if Organissimo got a 20% cut in instances like this!!
  13. Che. See Matt's thorough review in this thread, from yesterday. Album title is "Blunt Object: Live in Tokyo". Recorded May 2004, except for final track which is from December 2001. Erik.
  14. I just received the Bad Plus live cd today, and finished listening to it. It's very interesting, and (to me) follows their last two releases fairly well. I find them interesting, but not in a groove-y or swinging way at all. I see them as an instrumental piano trio, not a traditional jazz piano trio. I don't really care about labels anyway , I suppose. The Queen cover didn't do much for me, but the rest of the disc is fun, exploring music. It's got similar dynamics to their other releases, so it's got more of a "rock" feel to it I suppose.
  15. Al, start practicing your "FREEBIRD!" calls... B-)
  16. I hope you stick around Ted, it's a fascinating place! There are some very good people here, from all ends of just about any spectrum you can envision. Most of us seem to be pretty consistent in our comments, statements, responses, etc (i hope i can include myself in that!!). I can get a sense of who Jazzmoose, Jazzbo, and Jazz Kat are, just by being here and being involved, as much as I get a sense of who people are who are using their real names as their identities - like Chuck, Peter Johnson, and Kevin B. And I can definitely see consistent arguments/stances between Johnny E. and Weizen, though one uses his name and the other uses a pseudonym. I don't get the sense that anyone's statements are held to different standards due to their logon "handle". I've traded, purchased and/or sold cd's with a number of folks here, and have known many of them through this bulletin board and the previous ones for over 4 years. I just recently stuck my first name down at the bottom of my posts, but never tried to hide it from anyone. I think you'll enjoy it here if you give us a chance!
  17. I don't think Johnny has ever seen that forum before...

  19. I'm confused (doesn't take much!) You won this cd in a drawing? You think it's a good one? Your brother played with Pat in Minneapolis 3 weeks ago? Your brother is ON the recording?? Who is your brother? What did he play?

    Kenny Garrett

Assuming you mean Pharaoh Sanders, they're the cover story in the March 05 Downbeat.

    Kenny Garrett

I really like Pursuance, Triology, and Songbook! All three are wonderful recordings. "Sing a Song of Song" on Songbook never fails to impress me. I like Standard of Language quite a bit better than it's sister recording, Happy People, though the Bobby Hutcherson tracks are nice on that one. I also think both Black Hope and African Exchange Student, which are earlier recordings, are worth checking out. I agree with you Mark, I'd like to see Kenny release a live recording as well! Though he can be heard live on "A Dreyfus Night in Paris", with Marcus Miller, Michel Petrucciani, Bireli Lagrene, and Lenny White. And he's also on Miles' "Live Around the World, I think - don't have that one. -Erik
  22. Che. Once again, I would like to ask that you attempt the "search" function prior to posting, so you can add to existing discussions, instead of spreading them out. Thread on Jazz Auction Another Thread on same Jazz Auction Erik.
