Up - I'm still curious about this Moran disc. If it's music that's not available elsewhere, it's definitely got my attention. Thanks, Erik

Why do they do this? I placed an order for some discs (primarily some of the newer RVGs) that were listed as "in stock". I didn't realize it was only good once, and had planned to go back later in the day and make another order, for some additional discs that were on back order (available in 1-2 weeks or something like that). But I'm not doing this without the extra 15% off. Seems like they could have simply made the code good for a set period of time, instead of one-use only.

Anybody know if this was this ever issued domestically? I'm guessing not... Herbie Hancock - Riot TOCJ 66021, 1999 Tracks: 1. Riot (First Alt Take) / Herbie Hancock 2. Riot (Second Alt Take) / Herbie Hancock 3. Blind Man, Blind Man (Alt / Herbie Hancock 4. Mimosa (Alt Take) / Herbie Hancock 5. Goodbye To Childhood (Alt / Herbie Hancock 6. Prisoner (Alt Take) / Herbie Hancock 7. Firewater (Alt Take) / Herbie Hancock I'd provide the cover art, but Tower's website uses dynamic pages in the tags, whatever that means. edit - Also, what is this?? Jason Moran - "Jason Moran" TOCJ-66068 One of his domestic albums released with a different title?

Ah, c'mon John - it's easy to keep those two straight. I tend to get mixed up and confuse Jimmy Smith's "Chicken & Beer" with Ludacris', which was apparently part of the Blue Note Cover Series...

It's still there - you just can't see it...

What I want to know is which crate you store your Mosaics in... -
I mentioned this album in the "listening" thread yesterday, but if anyone is interested in a Wilco project that was done after YHF, but before the new one, check out the Minus 5's "Down with Wilco". Sort of a hidden Wilco album, and well worth checking out. Wilco teamed up with Scott McCaughey and Peter Buck of R.E.M. (the only regular members in the revolving Minus 5 lineup) and put this one out. Reading the AMG write up, this album suffered a similar fate to YHF, in that it was recorded in 2001, slated to be released on a major label, got shelved, and then released on the indie Yep Roc label.

They allowed those wooden shoes to cross the border into Deutschland?? By the way, the biggest wooden shoes I ever saw were in the Keukenhof, the world's largest flower garden. -

Is this the same PFunkJazz that used to contribute positively around the BNBB?? I remember reading alot of recommendations (alot of funk related stuff, obviously), and thought he was in deep in the LA music scene. The post above doesn't even sound like the same dude. Maybe it's Kareem posting under alias? -
turn it up... "Sweet Home Alabama, where the skies are so blue..."

Recommend a rock/pop album that's NOT in English
Aggie87 replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Recommendations
For German artists singing in German, I used to hear a semi-rap/rock group called the "Fantastischen Vier" quite a bit on German radio and MTV. Not sure if it's in the style you're looking for, but they seemed pretty popular. Maybe the Bohse Onkelz are more your taste? -
Wow - I haven't even posted in this thread, and I SUCK.

30 years ago today: Aaron passes Ruth
Aggie87 replied to Chrome's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I remember being 9 years old in 1974, living in Japan. Hank Aaron came to Tokyo for a home-run hitting contest with the Japanese baseball hero Sadaharu Oh. My dad took me to this contest, which Aaron won, 10-9. The Mets were there for a game against the Japanese all-stars, and the contest was a related event, held the day before, if my memory isn't too shot. Anyway, ever since, Hank Aaron has been one of my all-time favorites. Can't say a whole lot of other baseball players since those days has ever appealed to me. Like Jim, Aaron reminds me of good times with my father, who passed away back in '91. -Erik -
Just received my order, and the Dizzy "Afro" title is the mini-LP. Gotta be careful with BMG on which issue of a title they are offering. Afro is listed as "remastered", but Attica Blues isn't. Alot of times BMG will wait to clear out their inventory of older editions, before they offer the newer one. And there are also instances where they offer both the newer remaster AND the older edition, for the same price. Miles Davis Vol. 1 on Blue Note is a current example...

My first concert was also Donny & Marie, at the Budokan in about 75-76. My parents went to this, and took me along. I don't recall wanting to go at all, but I was about 10-11 at the time, so you go where you're taken. I quickly developed a liking for KISS after that, and my first "real" concert was seeing them in Frankfurt, with the original Iron Maiden lineup as the openers. This was either 1979 or 1980. Criss was no longer in the band, but they had Eric Carr and were still wearing the makeup. It was a fun show - spitting blood, breathing fire, ridiculous drum solo on a ridiculous elevating riser. I was an Ace man at the time, so had to stand stage right to watch his playing. Actually Iron Maiden made a bigger impression on me that KISS that night, probably because they seemed to be more talented musicians, despite there similar reliance on theatrics. I used to go to the old "Golden Summer Nights" concerts in Germany, as well as the "Rock am Ring" at the Nurburgring, up until the mid-80s. Those festivals were alot of fun, and had a wide variety of rock & pop artists. I'm too old for rock concerts anymore, with the exception of seeing Yes evertime they passed through Stuttgart over the past five years.

Sorry to have to tell you this, but Box Sets are usually not included on the no s/h deal. They usually sale price box sets for this reason. I know that's generally true, Jazzdog. But apparently every once in a while there is a special offer (usually sent out by email) that offers free shipping AND includes boxes. I believe some folks here have taken advantage of that sale before. Though even with shipping that Jack Johnson box ain't a bad deal at all...
-
Just pulled the trigger on my order. I think the $1.99 sale is the best one for purchasing a number of single-disc releases. This order is costing me $6.19 per disc (incl s/h & tax) delivered... Bad Plus - These are the Vistas Art Blakey - Night in Tunisia (Bluebird) Terance Blanchard - Bounce Chick Corea - Now He Sings, Now He Sobs Miles Davis - Jazz at the Plaza Duke Ellington - Far East Suite Galactic - Ruckus Dizzy Gillespie - Afro Charlie Haden/Pat Metheny - Beyond the Missouri Sky Thelonious Monk - Genius Vol 1 RVG Thelonious Monk - Genius Vol 2 RVG Stanton Moore - Flyin' the Koop Marc Ribot - Muy Divertido Sam Rivers - Fuschia Swing Song Conn Charlie Rouse - Bossa Nova Bacchanal Conn McCoy Tyner - Land of Giants Chucho Valdes - Live! (RMM) Yes - Fragile (Rhino ver.) Larry Young - Mother Ship Conn

I wouldn't hold my breath. You might get lucky and have them add a few new things before this particular sale is over, but you never know. They don't add titles on a regular basis, apparently. And I'm not sure how long these sales last, either. Not everyone gets the same sales at the same time too. Too many intangibles. But then again, they'll eventually offer this sale in another 3-6 months, and there will likely be titles you'll want then as well, maybe some of the newer RVGs.
-
Thanks for the heads-up on the $1.99 sale, Chris! I've been waiting for this one for a while. In fact, there are about 20 discs in my shopping cart that have been on hold waiting for this sale (including the Larry Young & Sam Rivers). Avg cost per cd is going to be about $5.68... Now I've gotta wait for a free s/h sale to pick up that Jack Johnson box... -Erik

Can't add anything to the above, other than to take care of yourself, and know that family and friends (and we Organissimites) can be a great source of support and strength. -Erik -
Ok, how many "f"s are in JM's sentence? If you found 3 you're a Kenny G fan. If you found 4 you're a true Groover.
-
For anyone who hasn't read the whole interview with the "G", it's still available at B&N.com. I posted this back on the BNBB one time, I believe. Kenny G Interview It's all pretty funny - I like his comment about learning 'Trane's solo in "Giant Steps". Sounds like he thinks there's little soul in JC's music, just technique. -Erik

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Aggie87 replied to Guy Berger's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I had hopes for "Man on the Moon", but it didn't turn out all that great. But Carrey's performance was excellent - he really captured Kaufman's spirit, in my opinion. In fact, I think that was part of the reason the movie didn't do well - Kaufman wasn't an immediately likable person.
