  1. Ah............those were the days. CD Players are just not the same.
  2. Thanks romualdo. I e-mailed Hazel yesterday about this and am waiting for her to confirm the price.
  3. I've just noticed that this due out in the UK at the end of July. I've had it on vinyl since its release and it's a cracker. A solo piano performance and, according to the description at Amazon, it comes with five additional tracks: "Ogun is extremely proud to present, for the first time on CD, this solo outing by the renowned South African band leader and composer Chris McGregor, recorded live in his adopted homeland of France in 1977. Best known as a member of the Blue Notes and leader of the international big band the Brotherhood of Breath, McGregor rarely recorded solo; his two recitals for the French Musica label have long since disappeared, and In His Good Time has been unavailable for many years. This long-awaited reissue comes directly from the original unedited analogue tapes and boasts a wealth of bonus material, restoring in its entirety the first set of the evening, a continuous performance of original works and arrangements of traditional South African folksongs. Five tracks edited from the second set complete the collection".
  4. I'd heard that he was ill but this is very sad news. I used to often see him playing on the bridge outside the Royal Festival Hall back in the day. I believe he was the musician referred to by Joni Mitchell in her song "For Free" on "Ladies of the Canyon".
  5. Good spot, but it says it's a double LP release, actually. Max Roach - Loadstar I wonder what label it's on?
  6. The 1960 Concert is not shown on the Dragon Records website. Did it ever get a CD release?
  7. Wonderful...that's made my day! Thank you so much for posting it.
  8. Who gets anything out of something like this, apart from lawyers? What a shame.

Have you tried converting them to WAVE files first? If they convert OK then you should be able to burn a CD using the wave files.
  10. An excellent match with Italy worthy winners. Perhaps it means that England lost to the tournament champions. Anyway, if England can't win it then the next best thing is seeing Germany get knocked out.
  11. I bought it for less than £6 delivered four years ago. In the UK, of course. I see it's going for nearly £80 now....amazing. For that price you might as well spring for the Mosaic set.
  12. Nothing beats the superb quality of the Mosaic, including the relatively good sound. I expressed some doubts about the sound on the earlier discs earlier on, but after repeated listening I must admit that those doubts are unjustified. If Hans says it sounds OK, then.................it sounds OK You're probably kidding, but please don't take my word for it, I was just expressing my opinion. Let your ears and preferences decide. Only joshing, Hans. It's been many years since my cloth ears were able to distinguish the difference between very good and very, very good sound. They're just about good enough now, to distinguish the difference between good and crap sound! BTW I have the Columbia/RCA 4xCD box set and...it sounds fine to me.

  14. If only it were true It's GERMANY vs Italy tonight. Shame on me I blame it on a combination of bad morning tea and bad internet connection troubles... Not old age?

  16. Received the Japanese CD a couple of days ago & listened to it tonight (with & without headphones) - what a disappointment - it sounds like a "needle drop" with continuous background sound on many of the tracks. Maybe it's just the poor initial recording (as Brownie mentions) Regarding Japanese needle drops, they do exist - I have a DIW Ayler CD (The First Recordings, Vol. 2) that is definitely a "drop" - you can hear pops/crackles throughout most of the disc Anyone else had a listen yet? Oh dear, I ordered a copy last week as a replacement for a dreadful sounding release by Fresh Sounds. Sounds like everyone's using the same (bad) prime sources.
  17. Thanks for that Jonathan. Look forward to hearing the Jeremy Steig when you release it.....and the Carter/Bradford, of course. .....and good to hear that Dogon A.D. appears to have been a commercial, as well as an artistic success.
  18. I dropped into Small's on a visit to New York last year. Had a lovely, relaxed couple of hours watching the Ethan Iverson Trio, all for about $20. Now, if I lived in New York ..........
  19. I've been tapping my foot to the Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland. Not so much to the Sun Ra.
  20. I thought she'd always been old. I'm a great fan of her playing but I don't detect that she's playing better now that when I first heard her many years ago. She's always played beautifully.
  21. Bumped. Any update on where you are with your re-issue plans, Jonathan?
  22. At one time book discounting was banned in France so it was as cheap to buy from your local bookstore as it was to buy on-line. I presume that's all finished now, is it?
  23. What would you think about doing then?
