  1. Does anyone know whether his album 'Hannibal' recorded in July, 1975 and released by MPS in the same year has ever had a CD release? There seemed to be a steady stream of re-issues by MPS a few years ago but I can't remember seeing anything from them for some time now.
  2. What a great couple of interviews. Many thanks for posting them, Mark.
  3. As well as the music being so strong the covers are terrific too. Yep, I'd go for all of those!
  4. Just to second (third?) what's already been said about these two albums - they really are both very good. Although I'm not normally too keen on the flute as a jazz instrument I must say that Lloyd McNeill's playing here is excellent, as is the drumming of Eric/Robert Gravatt. However the musician that I think comes over best is the pianist, (Eu)Gene Rush. I must admit that his is a name I'm not familiar with. It seems he has been a Jazz Professor at The University of Memphis for 23 years. Does anyone know whether he is on any other recordings other than these two with Lloyd McNeill?

    Dave Holland

Ah, that's sad news about Dave's wife. I guess that answers my question as to why he's not been around much recently. Thanks for all your posts, guys.
  6. Google "Bild letzte seite 1 girl". I guarantee your disappointment will be short-lived. My disappointment was 'long-lived'!
  7. Wow....they don't make 'em like that any more!!!

Thanks, Bev. It's good to see he's started playing again. Now, I wonder when he's next coming over here!

    Dave Holland

It must nine months or so by now since Dave Holland cancelled a gig I was going to at Ronnie Scott's Club because of his wife's illness. Since then I've heard nothing. Does anyone know what's happening? His website doesn't seem to have had anything posted to it since 2010 and I've not noticed any news of live gigs recently. I'm hoping for the best but fearing the worst.
  10. I tried it and got the very 'user-friendly response: "We're sorry, the document you requested is not available in your country" So that's that, I guess!
  11. A Youtube expert, already!
  12. Reading his obituary recently I realised that I'd never read anything by him. I'm really enjoying this:
  13. My (pre) order is in
  14. We should ALL get out more!
  15. That sums up my conclusion too. The LP and CD Mosaic sets will suffice ! My thoughts exactly.
  16. It reads like it sounds....guaranteed NOT to cheer you up.
  17. I'm a fan and have all his albums - completist that I am! The ones I return to most often are the four he recorded with Elvin Jones on Blue Note, all of which are included in the Mosaic boxset. If I had to pick a favourite from the four then it would be 'Puttin' It Together'.
  18. Good spot! I wonder if this is the start of a new series of releases...or not?
  19. Amen to that!
  20. Thanks, Marcello. Checking the timings it looks like it's just the introductions that have been removed. That's good(ish) news!
  21. Thanks Jeff. Yes, that's what I read also. I just wondered if anyone could confirm that ALL the music is on my Label M release.
  22. I have this recording as a single CD on Label M but have seen other releases that are on 2xCDs. Does anyone know whether the 2xCD set contains anything missing from the single CD?
  23. I don't think $50 would deter those of us who usually buy this sort of thing, Jonathan. Whether there are 1500 of us out there....who knows? However anyone who bought either of your first two releases is bound to give it serious consideration and I'd hate to give you any reason for not releasing it!
  24. What amazing news! Put me down for all of that and please keep up the good work, Jonathan!
  25. It's OK. Not one of the best in the set but a decent recording. It's a tune with a pronounced South African feel to it, probably a bit too long with a decent solo by Dennis Mpale on trumpet (OK, he's not world-beating!) and a much better solo by KIppie Moeketsi on alto sax. I just think that for anyone with little or no knowledge of South African music from this period this boxset represents outstanding value at less than £10 all in. Strut Records should be congratulated for putting it out.
