  1. and........................... and........................... and........................... I could go on!
  2. Grrrrrrr!....don't get me started.I never ate as poorly as when I visited the US last year. I think we should stick to the music!
  3. Wow. Have you read the book about that concert? I think it's called "Just Like the Night". And of course Scorcese's Dylan documentary is built around that concert. I bought the Scorcese DVD when it came out a few years ago and enjoyed it very much. I haven't read the book you mention - I'll try and pick up a cheap copy if I find one. My recollection of the actual concert was that it was no big deal. At that period of my life I was seeing so much live music that it all became a bit of a blur. I was really surprised when it achieved mystical status later, based mainly I think, on one member of the audience shouting out "Judas". I don't even remember hearing that, BTW. However, the music was so loud and distorted that it was difficult to hear anything!
  4. I was at the (in)famous Bob Dylan concert at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in 1966. Loved the first half...hated the second..just like nearly everyone else there. Thank God he never took any notice of us!
  5. Thanks for the link, Bev. I've just finished listening to it - very interesting. The Koln Concert was one of the first of his ECM albums that I bought (I think "Facing You" was probably the first) and I've always enjoyed it. In fact I'm listening to it whilst I type this...lovely!
  6. I'd forgotten - he played on this one too.
  7. This is VERY sad news! It's not been a good year.....
  8. Who's a clever boy, then?
  9. I really miss the compilation that Charlie Gillett issued each year containing his favourite tracks from his BBC World Service show. His death last year was a great loss. I see that many of the compilations are still available at reasonable prices from Amazon: Charlie Gillett at Amazon
  10. Thanks guys! I'll look out for cheap copy of one those!
  11. I have an LP on Savoy with one side by Thelonious Monk from 1955 and the the other side by Herbie Nichols from March, 1952 with Danny Baker on guitar, Shadow Wilson on drums and Chocolate Williams on bass and vocals. Does anyone know whether the Herbie Nichols session has ever had a CD release?
  12. This item in one of his obituaries made me laugh out loud: "After graduating with an inevitable Third, Hitchens launched his career in journalism as "social sciences correspondent" at The Times, a "Gogol-like ghost job which I held for six months before the editor said something to me that made it impossible to continue to go on working for him". In a footnote, Hitchens noted that the exact words were: "You're fired".
  13. This is, like, some of that Nicholas Payton regressive gene talk stuff, right? Oh no.....we're not back on that, are we
  14. I've just received an e-mail from Artistshare giving me this very sad news. I've probably been listening to Bob for as long as I've been listening to jazz.....a very long time. What a bummer!
  15. There's an unplayed copy available here for small bucks: Tom Scott - Hair To Jazz BTW I know nothing about the condition of the album or the seller.
  16. Thanks for explaining that, Jonathan. Fingers crossed it turns out well.
  17. Sorry Jonathan, but what does this mean?
  18. Thanks for the recommendations, Brownie. I've ordered them as a treat for Christmas!
  19. There's a nice Georges Arvanitas 'two-fer' currently available from Amazon on one of the 'grey market' labels. Here's a review from last August's Guardian: George Arvanitas - 3 am/Cocktails for Three
  20. I'm pretty sure this is the guy I saw playing solo at The London Jazz Festival last year as the warm-up act for Bobby Bradford. It's true that the sound he made from this enormous saxophone was impressive but listening to him playing it solo, soon became pretty boring. A bit of a "one-trick pony" unfortunately.
  21. With some of Gil Scott-Heron's problems, it would seem.
  22. "You'll Be Mine" is indeed post-1960. It was recorded in December 1961 and first released on Chess single 1813. Thanks, Hans. I guess I'll have to get Volume 2 as well...if it ever appears, of course!
  23. Looking at the track list for the new boxset I see that "You'll be Mine" is missing. This is one of my favourite songs by him so that's a bit disappointing. Presumably it was released after 1960 and will be on a Volume 2 if that ever comes out. Does anyone know when it was first released?
