i went into "mourning" quite awhile back when the L.A. Times cut out their jazz listings and ceased to regularly review jazz concerts. New York Magazine also eliminated their jazz concert section. in plain English, it sucks, big-time!

very sad to say that i'm not surprised. was never at all impressed with the folks that took the label over. they never did right by it. (and what a pathetic ad!! somebody who had some sense needed to proof it!!)

knew it was Larry immediately as i knew him well and long. his sweet widow, Rose, is still here in L.A. and playing piano. i first met Larry in NY in the '60s when he was with Monk. the photos of 1988 were fabulous but made me sad as well. there are SO many that are no longer with us. just incredible.

i am sad, sad, sad. what a huge loss. so grateful that i got to enjoy him since the early '60s. he was the sweetest, warmest, kindest musician i've ever known. my deepest condolences to his incredible wife, Cecilia. she was the most amazing loving support to this superman. bless you, forever, Cecilia.
