although confined to a wheelchair for the last 12 years of his life due to a stroke, Buddy never stopped giving, teaching, supporting and being an allround nice guy.
Happy Birthday wishes to one of my favorite horn players. i literally used to sit at his feet at the Five Spot in NY when he was playing with Mingus. that's when both of us were in our 20's!!!
thanks to the "powers that be" that we had Hank with us as long as we did, but it is still very sad.
i have an especially "warm" memory from a few years ago at Monterey (which i may have told here before). after Hank finished playing in Dizzy's Den one evening, he was playing a duet on the Arena stage with Dave Brubeck. he hadn't prepared for the very cool night air and was just wearing a suit. i put my cashmere scarf around his neck and he was extremely grateful. i like to think he got use out of my scarf since that evening as well.
saw Doug in Rotterdam summer before last playing with Johnny Griffin and Reggie Johnson. theyKirk Lightsey was also part of the group. were smokin'. i believe Doug has been living in Paris in recent years.
April 10:
Walter Bishop Jr, piano, 1927.
don't know if i posted this before or not, but the anniversary of Walter's birth is October 4th. at some time in Europe, they published it in a book as 04.10 instead of 10.04.
That was her sister, you assclown.
'Linda Hellerman'? Isn't that supposed to be Lillian Hellman?
Lynn may have had some controversial statements as well, but I stand by my post.
Bertrand.
My mistake.
But it seems to me you could have been civil about it.
YOU could have been "civil" and not posted that kind of comment on an RIP thread! i see you're causing trouble here already. you just make friends wherever you go. NOT!
i heard Moody is recuperating in a rehab facility after battling a post-surgical infection. he definitely didn't need complications but thankfully he's "on the mend".
