  1. Wells conjures up some wonderful memories for me, too! breakfast in the wee hours was the best! one of the first times i ever saw Sonny Rollins just hanging out in the mid-'60s. didn't Shirley Scott used to work there a lot?
  2. Roscoe's is an institution in L.A.!!!! they've been here probably since the '70s and now have several locations. brunches on weekends are always packed there. i believe the main location is still in Hollywood. yum-yum!!
  3. interesting, as i haven't seen her as shy for many, many decades. in fact, i see her as fierce and passionate. she still has an "Asian demeanor," for lack of a better way to describe it, and very polite but certainly not shy. in fact, i'd say she has more of a "tiger in her tank" than shyness!! just my personal opinion though, fwiw.
  4. i'm proud to say that my father was as well, along with Larry Berk at the then Schillinger House, now Berklee in Boston.
  5. had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time last year at Monterey! Happy, Healthy Birthday, Mr. Lasha!!
  6. i thought you were referring to 9/11 and were a day early!!!
  7. been having the same problems. tried everything i could think of but nothing. c'est la guerre!
  8. glad you enjoyed and that your friend had that opportunity. what a way to make your debut! i doubt very much though that there were 15,000 in attendance.
  9. was in the Village the other night and looking forward to a good meal at the Minetta Tavern. i think the place is about 90+ years old by now! well, it was closed and apparently was sold to some high-end restauranteurs. what a major disappointment. went down the street to Mario's which i think has been there for 90-odd years as well and ate well!
  10. looks like you've been blessed with great abodes for many decades. your view now is probably worth ten times what you pay for it, right?
  11. Where is that? Gloucester? locals call it "stinky beach" in Manchester and that was long before the sei whale washed up. the aquarium came up and towed it out to sea. Nice to think there's a Manchester with a beach! there's a part that is actually called Manchester by the Sea. it's quite beautiful with gorgeous estates.
  12. maybe someone who has not voted yet can clarify that for us as once you vote, you can't go in again and look at the list of previous honorees.
  13. catesta: i'll be in ny next sunday!!!
  14. thanks, GA. definitely had to do some "write-ins".
  15. way to go, Bruce. one day at a time. you're doing great and your body is definitely cooperating! may the good news continue.
  16. wishing you the very best! Mucho congrats to both of you!
  17. it seems that every week, another legend/giant is leaving us. sometimes more than one. this is an especially difficult time for people of a certain age who grew up with these people.
  18. wonder why bassist, Jon B. Williams isn't mentioned. he played with them in ny and then made the move with the band out to l.a.
  19. i'm bummed that i'm arriving for my NY stay (23-26) too late to catch this!! sounds like big fun and great music is to be had.
  20. the L.A. Times has an enormous obit today.
  21. so i guess that means that you're not there when Herbie and Wayne play?!?
  22. i am deeply saddened by this awful news. i had not seen Chris in many years but was friends with her decades ago when she was living in L.A. and practicing Buddhism. i especially remember a fun evening we shared in NY in 1976 for a bi-centennial celebration when we did a show together at the St. Moritz Hotel with her performing with her Dad and Jon Lucien on the show as well!! she was such a dynamic person who gave lots of love on a daily basis. my deepest condolences go out to her family and friends. i remember her son, Yusef, when he was a young boy. Valerie Bishop
  23. figured that's probably what you meant which is why i prefaced my post by saying it's most likely semantics . . . cheers, valerie
  24. semantics, to be sure, but i don't know how "nice" it is that he does that. i think it's wise though. to have a superior musician/composer in your family and to ignore him, would surely be ridiculous!
