  1. I was lingering after a Rasheid Ali gig a few weeks ago, talking to Ravi Coltrane and Jumani Smith (a great, young trumpet player) about improv., and all kinds of other shit. The subject of Woody came up...and a few minutes later Ravi comes out of the back room w/ an iPod looking thing w/ headphones and lays the fucking Holy Grail on me. It was 20 minutes of Woody Shaw practicing. Man, he had so much control over that horn, be it on arpeggios, patterns, anything...it just blew me right the fuck away. As a trumpet player, I was mezmerised, inspired, and terrified!
  2. Maybe he was just a surly bastatrd (the employee) , or he wanted the book...(?). Or maybe Wood had done something... peculiar.
  3. O.K., Eric, or Aric...do you want to trade me something for it? As for the sheet of acid scenario, I can only imagine the result of you finding this would entail some form of abuse of the shift-key, and many more non-linear posts!
  4. . Imagine the feeling of opening this mint condition baby up, & the warm sound of the first track "Box of Rain" livening up your night. No pops, hiss, or nothing. Jeff, it will depend on which first pressing you're offering!
  5. Hi Folks. Anyone need this baby? It's a cut-out, w/ a 1/2" saw cut on the top right corner. I don't listen to the Dead, plain and simple. But I know that some of you do. I welcome any trade scenarios.
  6. Well I'll be damned! I think I saw one of these on eBay a long time ago, and completely spaced it. Should've swooped. AAARGH!!!
  7. I'm not a Blazers fan, even though I live in Portland...but I think that old 'Sheed is a putz. I'd like to see the Pistons prevail in this series, though.
  8. The only exposure I've had to Basra is "Lazy Afternoon" off of the Joe Henderson Blue Note box. If the rest of it is that good, I'll shit my pants.
  9. Clifford Brown--The Quintet Vol. 1. Jordu is playing, what a groovy tune.
  10. I've often wondered why there have never been any boxed sets featuring Freddie Hubbard (as a leader, of course) . I'm sure there are some compelling marketing reasons why there haven't been any, but I don't give a rat's ass. I want a Hub box set!
  11. Don Fagerquist Octet--Eight by Eight. Some pretty shit!
  12. Don Ellis-- Soaring. Some crazy shit!!!
  13. Go Eldar!
  14. Well, Kidd didn't produce squat. 0 points. The Eastern Finals should be a good series. Oh yeah, and GO TIMBERWOLVES!
  15. Jazzy Birthday! !!!!
  16. Sounds spendy, but infinitely rewarding!!!!!
  17. Thanks Rachel. You seem to possess some wisdom. I haven't even seen her yet! Nor had the chance to discuss other loves, like art, cuisine, the NBA, Elliott Smith, living in the NorthWest, Court TV, to name a few. I'm sure I could learn many things about life from her, or darn near anyone. Stereotypes are bad news. I'm always open to a little re-alignment on what is real, vs. imaginary...be it from within, or from another relative stranger! Couw, I have Tina Brooks' entire catalog, but it's filed in the sax/reeds section. Between Braxton and Byas. B) Cheers!
  18. Yeah, I'm sure there is. Most of my life IS music, so I think that is what makes it difficult to imagine a tryst with this woman being say, lasting. I guess I'm generalizing a little bit. I won't even go into the stereotypes my mind reels off when thinking about what her other cultural tastes might be, after hearing her smooth jazz leanings. Maybe this woman is really great, no matter who is stinkin' up the room on the stereo. I'm not going to rule anything out. I do feel that if we ever did get together, for real...we'd have to maintain seperate cd storage spaces. I can't imagine having Rick Braun cds next to Clifford Brown. B)
  19. I hear ya', Patricia. I was recently told that I needed to meet this woman who was a huge jazz lover. When I sent her an email about what her favorites were, she fired back w/ Dave Sanborn, Boney James, Rick Braun, and the like. I know that it's probably a little Seinfeldian of me to use this info as exclusionary, but I can't imagine wooing or being wooed to the sound of Sanborn. I asked her if she liked any older jazz, and she said "a little of it...but I'm really into the contemporary stuff.
  20. Well, I have had the Morgan/Shorter for some time, and think that it's great, and taking into account my respect for the many fellow board members accolades of the Kelly/Chambers, I'll probably swoop.
  21. I'm having a hard time justifying pulling the trigger on the Kelly/Chambers. I have about half of the stuff on individual cds, but not the Strozier... ....hmmm....and I don't find myself spinning too many piano trio cds these days.... .....Mosaic has me by the balls....that's for certain. B)
  22. Stressin' indeed! I was trying to pry open the plastic cap (w/ hole in the center) off of a jar of Trappey's pepper vinegar today. I stupidly chose to use a steak knife to do this. Well, the knife slid out of the opening, and cut a huge gash in my index finger (left hand). I went and got it stitched up by a Dr. friend of mine (thank God that I have this friend). This was a little rough, but not too terrible. I rush home to meet with my 3:00 trumpet student, who has recently taken to absenteeism, and she doesn't show. Now i have a softball game in 1 hour, and I'd rather be settling back w/ a cool one. So Fuck, i guess I am stressing ...but the worst part of the day should be over!(?) . My poison will be PBR, I guess. Maybe some Jack.
  23. After giving this a complete listen I can whole-heartedly say... "Pick this Shit UP"!!!!
  24. The check's in the mail!
