What do you do after you're home from the gig?
doubleM replied to mikeweil's topic in Musician's Forum
This thread brings back an amusing post-gig story that I'd like to share with y'all. One night back in '97 or so I had a bunch of folks come back to my house for some food, hot tubbing, and whatever..... . There were about 10 of us there, a few musicians, and a few girls from the show. I had some Dave's Insanity Private Reserve hot sauce in my fridge, that was so fucking hot that you had to sign a waiver when you bought it. Made from the extract of habanero and scotch bonnet peppers. So, one of these girls (a 25 year old, surgically enhanced Cameron Diaz-looking gal, not at all bright) sees it and says "Hey, I want to try that stuff!" . I told her that she should not do that, but she kept forcing the issue. So she put a tiny little drop on her finger, tried it... and fucking LOST IT. She started looking for something so put in her mouth to contain the heat and ended up licking a bottle of gin that I had in my freezer. But it gets better. There was this percussion player there who was a complete megalomaniac hip-hopper who called himself "The Masta". He stayed and partied with a few folks after I'd gone in and crashed. I guess he spread a layer of this shit on a piece of toast and took a big old bite of it. Apparently he was up all night shitting red-hot razor blades!!! I used the stuff to cook, and all you needed was like one drop to make a whole batch of chili super hot. -
Curb Your Enthusiasm on DVD tomorrow (1/13)!

I laugh just thinking about the show, and how L. Dav. fucks everything up so royally. Enjoy your purchase, and keep us posted! -
When she wrote "Song Long", what the hell was that supposed to mean?!?

Look for "Out Front" on Candid. Look for "Booker and Friend". Both have stellar playing and compositions by Booker that show that he wrote great tunes, too.

Patricia--I know that we haven't e-interfaced--but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I enjoy your posts! Keep 'em comin'!

Based on a reputable dealer in my area, the speaks that were rated best sounding under a G. were the Paradigm studio monitors (20). I'm not sure which publication he was citing, but I own a pair and they are great for all of my listening needs (jazz, rock, classical, jazz, jazz, and soul). I wish I could describe their benefits in more audiophile-friendly terms, but look 'em up. They are outstanding!

The Smoking Gun has a 5 page report of this today , plus the medical examiners' report.

That disc "the Arrangers" sounds like a helluva pick-up. I'm going to have to look for it. Any ideas?

JER-RY! JER-RY! JER-RY! Nope, I don't own a gun. Not a fan, either.

Indy. Manning will now go on to prove that his greatness isn't limited to the regular season. -

Good points, G.O.M.. I support people in their attempts to relieve pain. We all do it, in one way or another. I certainly am pained by the loss of Elliott, and while I look at the new info from is autopsy as interesting, I just want to "get over it" as quickly as possible...and I don't get any closure from looking at Sweet Adeline's death-related forums. I might check in for recordings and things that celebrate his life and music. I relate to the Parker comparisons, too. I've spent more hrs. listening to E.S. than probably any other artist over the last decade.

The vibe at the Sweet Addy site seems to be one of relief. I think that to many people the inconclusive autopsy is somehow comforting. I don't get this... because it's not like anyone is ruling out suicide, and he's still dead. I hardly ever go over and look at those posts, as it's so self-referential and often hostile. Still awaiting the new cd, and playing his other ones frequently.

Very nice news. Congrats, and cheers!

I agree with the Houston Person, but C.T., man...I don't know. He's so good, and continues to kick butt. To me, his tone (butter), unique articulation, ability to inject humor into his playing, and the fact that he can play most anything, put him above most. I think he's probably not the best example of a lower-grade, or "not quite in the upper echelon" player. Maybe Nat Adderley for me as far as trumpet (or cornet) players go. Another one that comes to mind is Harold Land. Good thread!

I own some Roberta. Music. I think she put out some god stuff in the olden days.

He'll be at the Bluemonk with Alan Jones (drums), 1/21. That is one show in my hood that I won't be missin'! Hope to see some of my fellow NW posters there, too...you know who you are!

Another song by Lou Reed that doesn't suck is Magic and Loss .

Oh yes. I'm all too familiar w/ the fucked up scenario that is insomnia. I get up at either 3:30 or 5:30 A.M. 3 or 4 times a week. It's either that I wake up to relieve ye' ole bladder or from some weird dream. I've found that the only thing that will effectively slow down the brain is to write 2 or 3 pages of the same shit that my mind is circulating. I wake up feeling less than 100% than if I slept a solid 8, but at least it's a 1/2 hr. episode instead of a 2 or 3. And I agree that (or the generic equivalent of) Benadryl is a good O.T.C. sleeper.

I had a chance to see him play at my neighborhood jazz club about 6 months ago, but couldn't make it. I heard he still had it, even then. RIP, pops.

I too would have to say that the Woody Shaw is a tad bit disappointing. The only real winner for me from his CBS years was "Stepping Stones".

Chi. St. Louis Lansing I've never been to Chicago, and my long-distance girlfriend (from Minneapolis) could meet me there. And, I hope to see Organissimo playing at the festival.

I once received a Priority mail envelope with 2 Blakey records in it. I used a letter opener to open it and in the process cut a new opening into one of the lps. Instant gatefold!
