  1. Indy. Manning will now go on to prove that his greatness isn't limited to the regular season.
  2. GB. I' may put some $ on this one.
  3. Good story.
  4. Good points, G.O.M.. I support people in their attempts to relieve pain. We all do it, in one way or another. I certainly am pained by the loss of Elliott, and while I look at the new info from is autopsy as interesting, I just want to "get over it" as quickly as possible...and I don't get any closure from looking at Sweet Adeline's death-related forums. I might check in for recordings and things that celebrate his life and music. I relate to the Parker comparisons, too. I've spent more hrs. listening to E.S. than probably any other artist over the last decade.
  5. The vibe at the Sweet Addy site seems to be one of relief. I think that to many people the inconclusive autopsy is somehow comforting. I don't get this... because it's not like anyone is ruling out suicide, and he's still dead. I hardly ever go over and look at those posts, as it's so self-referential and often hostile. Still awaiting the new cd, and playing his other ones frequently.
  6. Very nice news. Congrats, and cheers!

    The "B" team

I agree with the Houston Person, but C.T., man...I don't know. He's so good, and continues to kick butt. To me, his tone (butter), unique articulation, ability to inject humor into his playing, and the fact that he can play most anything, put him above most. I think he's probably not the best example of a lower-grade, or "not quite in the upper echelon" player. Maybe Nat Adderley for me as far as trumpet (or cornet) players go. Another one that comes to mind is Harold Land. Good thread!
  8. I own some Roberta. Music. I think she put out some god stuff in the olden days.
  9. He'll be at the Bluemonk with Alan Jones (drums), 1/21. That is one show in my hood that I won't be missin'! Hope to see some of my fellow NW posters there, too...you know who you are!
  10. Another song by Lou Reed that doesn't suck is Magic and Loss .
  11. Oh yes. I'm all too familiar w/ the fucked up scenario that is insomnia. I get up at either 3:30 or 5:30 A.M. 3 or 4 times a week. It's either that I wake up to relieve ye' ole bladder or from some weird dream. I've found that the only thing that will effectively slow down the brain is to write 2 or 3 pages of the same shit that my mind is circulating. I wake up feeling less than 100% than if I slept a solid 8, but at least it's a 1/2 hr. episode instead of a 2 or 3. And I agree that (or the generic equivalent of) Benadryl is a good O.T.C. sleeper.
  12. I had a chance to see him play at my neighborhood jazz club about 6 months ago, but couldn't make it. I heard he still had it, even then. RIP, pops.
  13. I too would have to say that the Woody Shaw is a tad bit disappointing. The only real winner for me from his CBS years was "Stepping Stones".
  14. Chi. St. Louis Lansing I've never been to Chicago, and my long-distance girlfriend (from Minneapolis) could meet me there. And, I hope to see Organissimo playing at the festival.
  15. I once received a Priority mail envelope with 2 Blakey records in it. I used a letter opener to open it and in the process cut a new opening into one of the lps. Instant gatefold!
  16. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM! ! !

    Lenny Tristano?

I just got the ProperBox, and really like it. He wasn't really big on space, but I still don't find his lines to be mechanical. The live stuff is quite exciting. What a motherfucker!
  18. I had to go w/ Lansing, for all of the afore-mentioned reasons, plus another---I used to live in Michigan and haven't been back since '72. I wouldn't be opposed to another choice, though. St. Louis would be pretty damn fun!
  19. Hey Jim D., That would be great! I'll pm you w/ my address, in case you need it. Thanks, MM
  20. Sent you an email JSngry.
  21. I'd love to get in on this action, too... Jim. E.M. or PM me if you have time, and thanks. MM
  22. Hey Ghost, Have a great b-day!!!
  23. I had a gig and couldn't tune in, but it looks like the Jazz really took it to the Lakewhores. Oh well. in Utah it woulda been a different outcome.
  24. Hey JKrow, I posted a similar question here, and got some other members riled up because I (jokingly) asked if she might or might not already be in hell. It stopped just short of creationism. It was weird. But a useful search word would be More, Helen More, widow, etc.. MM
  25. Dough! Deep, Man...I was wrong to "goad" you, and I'm sorry. I hadn't read the rules that thoroughly and wasn't even thinking that posting that would offend you. I mistakenly thought that the "I Stay Bombed" moniker thing lent itself to a certain amount of free reign when it comes to joking about booze. If you were wondering, I like to hit the sauce at times, and...well, let's just say that among my friends we tease each other about our excesses in order to feel a "gestalt" (I know, an overused term) from our commonality w/r/t these things. But I don't know you well enough to take those liberties, and you don't know me from a Herb Alpert album at a thrift store. So, please know that I wasn't trying to get you banned, or offended. If I ever have the privelege of seeing you play, I'll introduce myself and buy you a Shirley Temple or something. B)
