  1. been a fan of Coryell since I saw him live, and he took time out by his own initiative to talk to me between sets. I will definitely be getting this
  2. retouched cover to come ? LOL! thankfully I had gotten an RVG of "Workout" with the fixed cover
  3. damn, I heard him deliver a blistering set back in 1995 when NPR broadcast the Playboy Jazz Festival live.
  4. I find it odd Jim your dorm mates didn't get the duet performance. Was it b/c at that time both Sonny and McCoy had expanded beyond what they were in the 60's (McCoy) and the 50's and 60's? (Sonny)
  5. yeah, Woody was amazing. The way he nailed that was amazing for the most part
  6. Joe, how was the SF Jazz Collective? I've loved all 4 of their albums so far, and definitely will preorder the 2008 set soon. Sure beats what LCJO does, b/c its fresh and relevant
  7. thanks jmjk. Well these are mono so the stereo thing wouldn't be a factor.
  8. oh yeah, the terrible "Giants of Jazz: Immortal Concerts" CD. I had that, I now have the TOCJ 1500 series versions of volumes 1&2 on CD, how are the RVG's compared to those soundwise?
  9. WorldB3, those are gonna be my next purchases too
  10. thanks, I've noticed 3 versions of the same title. i.e. Bernstein Century, Masterworks, Great Performances
  11. Back when I was a kid, I had loads of these on vinyl, I had a lot of the Bernstein/NY Philharmonic ones, I love the version of the 1812 from 1957 which I see has been put out as a Sony Masterworks reissue, however, the Great Performances series I've seen some reissued with the original covers, not the beige/white bold black typeface covers, there are still many around on CD from the late 80's early 90's, are these ok sonically? I had gotten #12 which was a Bizet album on CD a long time ago. I haven't listened to classical for more than a decade, think I need to reconnect with my roots, grew up on a steady diet of a lot of classical and jazz but the jazz road has been the one for me for many years.
  12. looking forward to the new record
  13. just realized that today, JOS recorded "The Sermon" and all that material in what I feel is his greatest album, and one of the best sessions he participated in. Let's all go put it in!
  14. I won a copy on ebay last night for $35 (that includes shipping) I put in a max bid of $100 just for kicks, no one bid that high on it.
  15. I have the JOS on LP, I'll be getting the CD of that and also the Burrell.
  16. I think JOS played at Newport in '57, hopefully they can release that too
  17. just finished listening to this one, picked it up last night with the Horace Silver. "Life on Planet Groove" is the standard for live Maceo records, but this one joins that. The Ray Charles stuff is excellent as is the funk stuff, Dennis Chambers on "Pass the Peas"!
  18. got mine and just spun it. Smoking indeed, excellent Louis Smith and Louis Hayes
  19. Bobby Hutcherson Mosaic Select disc 2
  20. yep. the first one is 5,000 the others are 3,000. I have to wonder how much ebay craziness these may offer in the future
  21. the previous 3 are outstanding as well. I am gonna finish disc 2 of the 2007 set in a few, "Haast Pass" kills, how it starts out with Hutch playing a waltz I thought it'd be that the whole time, but then the irregular metered bassline comes in......... So far that 2007 disc has had a lot of surprises. relyles, when I bought the 2004 and 5 sets (I bought all 4 at once) it said the first two were available in limited quantities.
  22. I have really enjoyed all 4 SFJazz albums so far, I'll finish disc 2 tommorrow of Live 2007, but its really been great stuff. Will definitely preorder the Shorter/Live 2008 album when they announce it. If only Nonesuch would release the complete sets for those that have missed out on the sets on the SFJazz site.
  23. congrats to Herbie, all I noticed is that he dyed his hair or something, not shaking. I didn't watch the show really, was listening to the SFJazz Collective Live 2006 album where they do Herbie's tunes. Glad Brecker posthumously won too.
  24. yeah, the Trane one is even more insane. I gotta email this guy, apparently he is well known in France.
