  1. I believe it's the Masters of Jazz CD series of "The Complete..." yes, Masters of Jazz 'complete edition' series. all the volumes are listed at http://www.billieholiday.be/Albums/AlbumHome.htm just do a keyword search for Masters of Jazz. it's the volumes 1-27.
  2. for completeness, i'll add: http://www.billieholiday.be/Sessions/Session0034.htm 15 september 1938 columbia 7 You can't be mine (and someone else's too) AT 23470-1 AffIt CDAFS Box 1019-8 (disc five) 2'27'' 8 You can't be mine (and someone else's too) MT 23470-2 Vocalion 4396 2'22'' the billieholiday.be discographer claims that there is an alternate take, but the above two takes are the same. the mjcd Vol. 6 booklet confirms that there is no alternate take. and http://billieholiday.be/Sessions/Session0054.htm 7 august 1941 columbia 7 Gloomy sunday MT 31005-1 OKeh 6451 3'13'' 8 Gloomy sunday AT 31005-2 QueenIt Q-4501 3'21'' 9 Gloomy sunday AT 31005-3 Columbia C30783 (album G30782) 3'10'' the discographer (and maybe the booklet, which i don't have in front of me) claims that -1 and -3 are on the box set. but it's -1 and -2 that are the box set. (box set = the 10 cd Complete On Columbia (Lady Day) 33-44, (Columbia CXK 85470))

  5. TheBillie HolidayExperience - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/nigel1034 Welcome to The Billie Holiday Experience! Everything Lady from TV appearances, to unheard interviews, to unreleased recording session rehearsals, it's all he. >>>> gonna have to peruse his youtube channel.
  6. this item is all over the web, but no info at all. https://www.google.com/search?q=%22Studio+Sessions+%26+Stories%22+%22Louis+Armstrong%22+hines+Teagarden&num=20&lr=&as_qdr=all&ei=vVIgVaeADcrdsAX0_IC4Aw&start=20&sa=N&biw=1097&bih=541 all i know so far is that the talk is unique (to me), and that it's with teagarden, earl hines. is the music unique? edit: i found it. it's the session on page 204, and the session preceeding it. http://books.google.com/books?id=mvyj8r6puTgC&printsec=frontcover&dq=%22all+of+me%22+%22louis+armstrong%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=BSM7T4-nG8SA2AW0mcmeCg&ved=0CDUQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=wabash&f=false 1.20.50, and 1950 san francisco standard school program. standard oil company of california recording session a bizarre concept.
  7. i'm pretty sure that the jazz icons video of this coltrane show (March 28, 1960 Düsseldorf) doesn't have any applause.
  8. http://www.yuseflateef.com/recordings.html i checked each entry on this list, and the cd's that do have dates (most of them actually) are from 1990's and 2000's. bottom line 1977 is not on that list for some reason.
  9. ok, so "Billie Holiday buddy Defranco Quartet - live in cologne 1954" 1.22.54 Jazzline label 1 Billie's Blues (2:56) 2 All of Me (1:43) 3 I Cover the Waterfront (3:28) 4 Them There Eyes (1:54) 5 My Man (2:48) 6 What a Little Moonlight Can Do (3:05) and old version http://billieholiday.be/Sessions/Session0120.htm 1 Billie's blues (I love my man) SAME AS VERSION ON JAZZLINE 2 What a little moonlight can do SAME AS VERSION ON JAZZLINE 3 Lover come back to me (incomplete, fades out) NOT ON JAZZLINE Lover come back is end of show jam session with holiday, Red Norvo, Buddy DeFranco, et al. the piano player, Carl Drinkhard, made the a/b comparing pretty easy. jazzline is much better sound quality than the old version.
  10. are there other lateef 1970's albums here http://www.yuseflateef.com/recordings.html besides the bottom line 1977? most of them don't have dates listed.
  11. i checked 2 tunes of this new cd against Blue Note CD "Billie's Blues" 1954 basel, switz. (also on verve box, and also aka cologne) and they are different versions. as for the old session of 3 tunes that are listed in discographies as from cologne 54, http://billieholiday.be/Sessions/Session0120.htm i wont be able to check it for a day or two, but it has Lover come back to me, which is not on this new cd. those 3 tunes are on Perfect Complete Collection: Live/Private Chronological Order Vol. 06/12 (SoundJ LDB.06) Masters Of Jazz - Vol. 20 Nov.1952 - Feb.1954 (KBF 1320) Lady Day Box Vol. 07 Of 12 (JUTB 3041) the Masters Of Jazz is probably the easiest one to find.
  12. i'm told that this is different from Blue Note CD "Billie's Blues" 1954 basel, switz. (also on verve box, and also aka cologne) http://billieholiday.be/Sessions/Session0122.htm i'm going to try to compare this new cd to the basel and the old 3-tune cologne session, but i suspect that with holiday it's probably hard, because the backing instruments don't solo, and her vocal delivery is set for each tune.
  13. http://www.challengerecords.com/products/1410775336/ someone told me about this as i was filling the gaps in my bh collection. the first 6 tunes are holiday. there is an old session of 3 holiday tunes that are listed in discographies as from cologne 54, http://billieholiday.be/Sessions/Session0120.htm i haven't yet compared, but at this point, it would seem that those 3 tunes are from another city, probably from the same tour.
  14. thanks. i got someone to download it from itunes for me. not a great tune selection, but there's some good soloing on his 1970's shows. the klompfoot site is straight out of the 1990's. no search function, and a 500 page text list of releases. i'm glad that i got my byard lancaster cimp cd's from cadence before the switch to klompfoot. https://www.google.com/search?as_q=&as_epq=lateef&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&lr=&cr=&as_qdr=all&as_sitesearch=klompfoot.com%2F&as_occt=any&safe=active&tbs=&as_filetype=&as_rights=&gws_rd=ssl
  15. he's on only one sun ra album, it was recorded on the short fall 1983 all-stars program which took place in the middle of a sun ra tour with the arkestra. Stars that Shine Darkly (aka Hiroshima and Outer Reach Intensity-Energy) - Montreux 11/83. (with Don Cherry, Lester Bowie, Archie Shepp, John Gilmore, Marshall Allen, Eloe Omoe, Philly Joe Jones, Clifford Jarvis) http://wayback.archive.org/web/20060222085325/http://www.dpo.uab.edu/~moudry/disc_d.htm#103. there was a bootleg (transparancy label) box set released of the other 4 dates available from this line-up (all oct/nov 1983) "Sun Ra All Stars ‎– Milan, Zurich, West Berlin, Paris" http://www.discogs.com/Sun-Ra-All-Stars-Milan-Zurich-West-Berlin-Paris/release/1437001 and the same label released the video that exists of most of the berlin show on "Sun Ra Arkestra, Volume 2: Live In East Berlin 1986 and West Berlin 1983" the video can probably be found on youtube.
  16. 1-5 ben webster? although from my recollection, webster has a bigger tenor sound than is displayed here.
  17. a fairly new discovery Leonard Feather's party, New York City circa december 1, 1956 Leonard Feather piano Ghost of yesterday / You go to my head pt. 1 You go to my head pt. 2
  18. http://www.billieholiday.be/Albums/Album1265.htm looks like it will have this material, and more.
  19. only on one track - equinox. and ole may have a brief flaw during coltrane's solo. there are a lot of previously unissued alternate takes which are still available only on this box.
  20. http://tonyortega.org/ probably gives them all a run for their money.
  21. is itunes the only place that has this available for download purchase? i don't have itunes. http://www.yuseflateef.com/YALRecords/bottomline.html track list http://www.wikimp3.org/album/yusef-lateef-yusef-lateef-at-the-bottom-line-1977-1968/537048/ a couple of eastern european sites list it as available for download, but it doesn't look like they really have it. https://www.igroove.ch/product/itunes/203029023/yusef-lateef-at-the-bottom-line-1977/ http://applifto.ru/music/yusef_lateef_at_the_bottom_line_1977
  22. the thing that bothers me about usps is in the past couple of years the price to ship packages from u.s. to europe has doubled. other than that, i almost never have problems with packages arriving, and on time. and if you ship to a 2nd world country, don't be surprised if once in a while, the package gets 'lost'. as for the tracking online, both usps and ups are guilty on a regular basis of forgetting to update tracking status.
  23. a 'scared straight' documentary for music collectors. VINYL (Alan Zweig)
  24. there is no overlap. that storyville box is one of the best large box sets ever produced. a wealth of live tatum, and most is either previously unissued, or very obscure. for a live compilation, the only other official large box that beats it is ayler's holy ghost.
  25. 11. trumpet has a clifford brown tone.
