the cd does have cuts between most of the tunes. and i think the xanadu guy (boris rose?) was known to record multiple sets from engagements, i.e. monk birdland 2/9/63, 2/16/63, 2/23/63, and release them in incomplete form on xanadu, alto, etc. labels.

i was sent a 0:15 seconds clip of the end of 'i'm getting sentimental over you' from this wkcr broadcast, and it's exactly the same as the ending of this tune on the available xanadu cd. so unless the cd is a compilation from more than one set, the music on the wkcr broadcast is not new. but i wouldn't be surprised if they also broadcast the unissued tunes too: Well You Needn’t unissued San Francisco Holiday (Worry Later) unissued if this is a big disappointment, you can get this new set that was released on dutch jazz archives last year. Dutch Jazz Archive "Thelonious Monk: Jackie-ing" "live in Amsterdam may 1961" 45-minute set new 1-7: Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, May 20, 1961 1. Jackie-ing 8:05 2. Straight No Chaser 11:49 3. Crepuscule With Nellie 2:33 4. Well You Needn't 6:33 5. Rhythm-a-ning 9:10 6. Body And Soul 4:40 7. Just A Gigolo 2:07 (tracks 8-end are bussum, netherlands - not new) mp3 download http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00TT78UWA/ref=sr_1_2_rd?_encoding=UTF8&child=B00TT79H1I&qid=1425402176&sr=1-2</a> thanks to the person who supplied the clip.

the only other 1962 live monk date seems to be the 2 tunes as guest star with duke July 8, 1962 Newport Jazz Festival, Freebody Park Thelonious Monk with Duke Ellington’s Orchestra the people at wkcr usually know what they're talking about when claiming that an item is brand new. but if no one recorded it, then it doesn't really matter unless it's issued in the future.

sheridan adds 2 unissued tunes on end of the 11-12-62 session: Well You Needn’t unissued San Francisco Holiday (Worry Later) unissued to make it more confusing, the monk bio claims that monk wasn't at the village gate in november http://www.monkbook.com/sessionography/sessionography-1958-1962/ >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> August or early September, 1962 Private Recording, Village Gate, New York Thelonious Monk Quartet Personnel: Charlie Rouse (ts), Thelonious Monk (p), John Ore (b), Frankie Dunlop (d). Rhythm-a-ning Xanadu 202 Body & Soul (p-solo) Xanadu 202 Evidence Xanadu 202 I’m Getting Sentimental Over You Xanadu 202 Body & Soul (p-solo) Xanadu 202 Jackie-Ing Xanadu 202 Well You Needn’t unissued San Francisco Holiday (Worry Later) unissued Notes: Don Schlitten, who released these tapes on his Xanadu label, originally dated them November 12, 1963. [Liner notes, Thelonious Monk Live at the Village Gate (Xanadu 202) and later on CD (Xanadu FDCD 5161).] This isn’t possible since Monk was at the Five Spot then with different personnel. Chris Sheridan then claimed the recording was made November 12, 1962 (Brilliant Corners, 118), but this, too, is impossible since Monk’s engagement at the Gate ended the first week of September. The weekend of November 11-12, the line-up at the Gate consisted of Larry Adler, Paul Draper and Nina Simone. [see ads, New York Times, November 9 and 12, 1962.] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> but a new late 1962 village gate monk set is the most likely scenario here.

this cd is dated 11-12-62 in sheridan, so probably same engagement. anyone catch the track list?

the billie holiday/lester segment is always mentioned when this show is discussed, but the ultimate highlight of that show is 'dickie's dream'!

i'm not going to check the discography, but The Last Blues (1965) (10:25) timing is wrong, so you've got another 5min to play with. not mentioned above: 'teo' with miles 1961 india from vanguard mr. day or mr. knight from 'plays the blues' ole maybe 'peace on earth' from japan 1966

Well, I would very much like to read the memoirs of "jazz hustler" Teddy Reig (however short they may be) but the copies I have seen were really priced out of this world. you could ask your library to order it on interlibrary book loan from another library in the country. can do that in the u.s., maybe in germany too.

i would stay away from any autobiographies by record executives (i.e. bob thiele). i think john hammond had one too. the truth as they want the reader to see it. the last book i kind of read (just started skimming through it after a while) was 'Keystone Korner: Portrait of a Jazz Club' by photographer Kathy Sloane. nice photos from the club, but a photographer should not be writing a book. probably should have had a co-writer. any jazz bio written by a person who is obviously a rock music listener at heart, rather than a jazz listener. i think 'Bright Moments: The Life and Legacy of Rahsaan Roland Kirk' by John Kruth would fall into this category.

IE is in the same font as Chrome. >>>> then this is not a chrome issue. if you haven't tried, could do 'system restore'. -
Daybreak in Dinant mystery probably solved. it would seem that Daybreak in Dinant is an improvisation on moonlight in vermont. hawkins belgium 1962, moonlight in vermont at 34:00 into the video. hawkins brussels 1962 Daybreak in Dinant

if we're talking about everything in google getting too large all of a sudden, then this worked for me: on the shortcut that you use for opening google chrome, right click, then select properties, and in target, add on end: a space, then: /high-dpi-support=1 /force-device-scale-factor=1 example old "C:\Documents and Settings\test\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" new "C:\Documents and Settings\test\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" /high-dpi-support=1 /force-device-scale-factor=1 then click 'ok', and try opening google from that shortcut. source http://superuser.com/questions/803710/chrome-37-ui-got-larger-and-became-blurry-on-125-dpi -

videos of hawkins with beard = 1966 and 1967.

I think that was from slightly earlier in the year, recorded in Paris. there's only one euro '65 session with the wes/terry lineup. so it's the same, just an incorrect rhythm section listed on Jazz door.

yep, audience applause is heard on this recording.

Freddie Hubbard solo on Lost Dreams (liquid love 1975)

i've been checking out the recommendations in this thread. TERUMASA HINO- INTO THE HEAVEN 1970 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kE3mxhwrDqA Terumasa Hino Be And Know (1973) This Planet Is Ours - Terumasa Hino 5 Live at Pit Inn 1977 the above 3 are all fantastic, but i've not found anything else on youtube by him that was nearly as good as these. Eddie Henderson - after the first 2 tunes on his first album, the rest of his 70's output is really bad music. it's hard to even focus on the trumpet playing. Donald Byrd "Ethiopian Nights" and a bit of "Kofi" are very good, but again, the rest of his 70's output is hard to listen to. i really liked parts of Cannonball's "Black Messiah". i can now see why this album is mentioned so often. -

it does sound like hubbard is using a wah-wah on the solo on Lost Dreams (liquid love 1975) from 9:10-11:00. -
yep, that is from the October 28th, 1940 session with lester. i guess/hope i'm better at recognizing lester's post-basie playing. the sax tone just doesn't sound like him to me. his post-basie is much lighter.

on the tune "Kuntu" and "Too High"? that's not a wah wah. it's some kind of an electronic device/delay. Yeah, those tunes here's an example of trumpet with wah wah. miles starts at 4minutes into the video, and the wah wah can be seen at 5:20. are there other trumpeters who used the wah wah? i seem to recall there was at least one other person besides miles, but don't remember who it was. -

if want to hear the miles 'it's about that time' solo, and don't do wolfgang's, it can also be heard at sugarmegs (google it). do a search for Miles Davis, and the show is listed there as MilesDavis1971-05-06_09FillmoreWest.asx 'it's about that time' starts at 26minutes, and the solo in question starts at 38minutes. -

thanks. i've been checking out Terumasa Hino on youtube today, including the tune linked above, and i'm stunned at how well he plays. and so effortlessly. the other 2 stretched out tunes on youtube that i like are Terumasa Hino Be And Know (1973) This Planet Is Ours - Terumasa Hino 5 Live at Pit Inn (1977) this type of music is what i'm looking for in mid tempo, and still going through trying to find fast tempo tunes that i'd like by him. will check out henderson, and the other suggestions next. >>>Would love to know if anyone else was playing quite like this specifically in the 70's (I realize there have been others more recently, in the last 20-25 years). >>> well, miles 1971-75 concerts have this kind of stuff all over the place, especially 1975. check out his solo on 'it's about that time' from this concert http://www.concertvault.com/miles-davis/fillmore-west-may-07-1971.html btw, there is a live version of Hubbard Lost Dreams at http://www.concertvault.com/freddie-hubbard-quintet/carnegie-hall-july-01-1975.html and it's wild. -
is there other 1970's trumpet playing that sounds kind of like this, and 1970's miles? trumpet solo starts at 7:55. i'm familiar with hubbard and miles from this period, but would like to find other musicians. thanks
