i have a question mark by that one too. and the 'blues' from the same session sounds like an unknown title rather than just a blues. there are mistakes in the personnel listing on some tunes. brazil doesn't have a sax, and going down to big mary's does. but they got everybody and their grandmothers to do some reminiscin' in the liner notes. i'm not very impressed with wes' playing on this (except on brazil and caravan). would prefer some 1966-68 live material instead.

Louis Armstrong Tight Like This 1928 starts off like it's going to be a novelty record. but then the trumpet solo starts, and it becomes my favorite armstrong 1920's performance.

i've only seen kane and 'F for Fake' (1974). F for Fake was good.

4 sun ra 1950's 7 mccoy tyner? 8 jarrett? (not sun ra?) edit: yes, 8 is sun ra from 'some blues but not the kind that's blue'. doesn't sound like his style of playing to me.

not to sidetrack, but i find this guest appearance fascinating Miles Davis sits in for one tune at a B.B. King concert, Barcelona 11-13-73

there's a lot of issued 1943-45 radio material that they didn't bother to include on these integrale volumes.

shepp and byas sit in on only 2 tunes on this concert.

i'm not sure. looking at http://www.discogs.com/Louis-Armstrong-And-His-Friends/master/259216 it seems that most issues after 1970 have the edited version. also the mix seems different from the u.s. bluebird cd that i have.

All of Me: The Complete Discography of Louis Armstrong By Jos Willems
l p replied to l p's topic in Discography
you cheated by using the web. i said 'by looking only at this armstrong book discography'. and nowhere in the book does he give titles of releases, he just gives the matrix numbers. i hope he's in discographer's hell. -

if it's so nice, then please tell me, by looking only at this armstrong book discography, what this vinyl release contains http://www.discogs.com/Louis-Armstrong-Live-Recordings/release/873053 Louis Armstrong – Live Recording Label: Polskie Nagrania Muza – SXL 1158 "Live Recordings At The "Stork Club", New York, 1962" (obviously later than 1962, because it has hello dolly) the only way is to look up each tune in the index, then go to the sessions that contain the tune, and then search for the Muza – SXL 1158 within the session. and most of the tunes on this release were probably performed/recorded 50 times = 50 sessions to look through for each tune. it's insane. or if you think that they're all from one concert, you could make a chart of when all 10 tunes appear on the same live session. that sounds like fun too. here's another one that should be easier, but it's really not. louis armstrong "on the road" laserlight 15798 http://www.discogs.com/Louis-Armstrong-On-The-Road/release/1377517 i now know that it's from one concert. but the only way to find it is to blindly search through the armstrong 'discography' page by page for the magic 15798 number, the font of which, is about 4 or 5. -

i'd have some choice words for this discographer if he wasn't dead. a proper book form discography has a 78/45/lp/cd/dvd/video index in the back of the book, even if all the formats were combined together into one index of issues. and in that index, under 'L" the entry of the above cd would be something like: Laserline 15773 Louis Armstrong And His All-Stars April 26, 1947, June 10, 1947, March 24-April 3, 1949 the coltrane discography also has the release name included in the session entry, which makes it even easier/not having to search the index for the release name. the guy probably spent tireless years compiling this thing, and he fails to do an extremely important part of the discography. -

so, if i wanted to seach this discography for the contents of a cd, for example cd title "Louis Armstrong His All Stars". laserline label, live recordings, which doesn't provide recording dates in the booklet. http://www.discogs.com/Louis-Armstrong-And-His-All-Stars-Earl-Fatha-Hines-Velma-Middleton-Louis-Armstrong-And-His-All-Stars/release/6078195 then how did this genius discographer expect anyone to find the info in his discography? -

from the timings, it looks like at least this is not on the new release: Bonus track on the 1997 reissue "The End of a Love Affair" The Audio Story – 9:49 and if the takes are marked correctly on the 3cd set, and on the mjcd volume 27 cd, then the 3cd set has outtakes that are not on the mjcd, and vice versa.

Whats the best free program for capturing music running on computer?
l p replied to medjuck's topic in Audio Talk
www.mp3mymp3.com/ simple to use. can select wav instead of mp3 in options. but, at least for me, have to leave the computer alone while it's recording (can't cruise the web). otherwise there are audible hiccups on the resulting recording from webpages loading, keyboard use, etc. -

it's the same take, but without the overdubbed vocal. and there's no vocalist listed on the session. -

yes, since the 12min segment came from the monk family, it was probably recorded by nica or nellie monk. there were some recordings by nellie on that old site too. and even if it was not recorded by these two, then by someone who gave the tape to the monk family (not naima).

Billie Holiday Box Set on Verve
l p replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
it's a false start. timings are at the right of each tune entry. Mandy is two 10-feb-42 INC 32406-? 0'19'' alot of these missing tunes are available on other compilations besides the mjcd volumes. have to search each session date in that online discography to see on which releases the tunes are issued.
