  1. I agree that 98.5 is not good for a domestic seller. I tend to look for domestic sellers over 99.5. Importcds is 99.6 over the past 12 months. Interestingly, some of the worst performance comes from the big UK-based sellers, and I'm happy to find one of them running at 95% at any given time. The absolute worst is Momox out of Germany, 1/4 of the time their stuff never shows up or comes incredibly late. Domestically, Decluttr is the worst. The stuff comes on time, but you can never trust that they have graded condition properly or that they are sending the complete set or correct version (I'm not convinced they ever examine the discs inside the CD case. I'll buy from Momox or Decluttr only if the savings is outstanding compared to other sellers.
  2. Just saw this in a new releases column (theseconddisc.com). Do not understand who would buy these discs. Only the Truly Converted are going to buy Resonance issues, and only the Merely Curious buy jazz best-of's. What (if anything) am I missing?
  3. I've never had a problem with moviemars, have ordered probably 100 items (CD's/DVD's) from them over the years. I have had minimal (like 2 or 3) issues with importcds, always immediately acknowledged and addressed by them, and I'm sure I've probably ordered 1000 CD's from them, and they remain my go-to, either from ebay (best to bundle small items for their 20% offers) or directly from their web site (best for large items of $25 or more). I also did well with caiman.com back in the day. I guess we each have our own experiences, and understandably shape those into a narrative. USPS can make me crazy at times, but it all almost always works out with a little patience. Tell you who really makes me crazy, is US Customs, who sit on packages for a week.
  4. Looking forward to picking up that one in my next importcds batch!
  5. Are there other Hubbard tribute albums similar to the two mentioned in this thread? Also, props to David Weiss, who I believe did a LOT for Hubbard.
  6. What's the status on these?
  7. I tend to file tribute albums with multiple leaders under the artist they are tributing, so if this makes my permanent shelves, it will go under "Hubbard".
  8. Just ordered used copy from Amazon marketplace. David Weiss is a fabulous arranger - his participation and Larry's recommendation are plenty enough to convince me, especially since I love Hubbard's best work so much. Thanks, Larry!
  9. Lots of clothes, just no books or music!
  10. So I live in King of Prussia. We have the largest shopping mall in the USA, in terms of number of stores (over 400). Not one is a music or book store.
  11. My feelings exactly. She's a favorite of mine for that very reason, though I would never dream of actually playing her CD (I did hear it all the way through once). And she's OK at what she does, but what she does isn't Blue Note. Bill, please share the link to your post, thanks!
  12. I'm sure it will have some interesting parts, but I don't agree with the basic premise. The Don Was thing today is not the same Blue Note we loved. That died a horrible death at the hands of United Artists. EMI Manhattan started this new thing, with the old name, in the mid-80's. They did do wonderful reissues of the old Blue Note for a time, I assume funded by the inexplicable Norah Jones revenue, but the new recordings by even the old names lacked the magic, and it just got worse. I mean, I really like Suzanne Vega, but she's not Blue Note, really, in the sense of the term I/we think of, and has no link to it apart from a label name.
  13. BTW, Brenda and Patrice Holloway wrote "You've Made Me So Very Happy" as well as recording it. She was a great lost opportunity for Motown (some of it her own doing, apparently). Some wonderful material by her left in the can.
  14. My mistake, Brenda's little sister was Patrice, not Loleatta.
  15. Left to my own devices, I'll go to Lalah's father and Loleatta's big sister, though Lalah and especially Loleatta do each have their own merits.
  16. CBS never even did one of those 2-CD "Essential" sets on Santamaria, which could have fit the bill nicely. IIRC, good Hubert Laws tenor playing on the superior bonus cuts on the Solomon Ilori - African High Life CD on Blue Note.
  17. While I am sorry for the MCA fire, I'm glad it didn't occur in, say, 1986. At least a LOT made it onto CD.
  18. Another great scene from his remake of 'Fun in Acapulco':
  19. I do, I like listening to those later Grant Green BN's.
  20. Oh yeah, he can definitely still bring it when he wants to. The reunion concert with the original group is fabulous.
  21. Here's what a scene of what his remake of "Fun in Acapulco" would look like:
  22. Definitely his high water mark, and one of the greatest 80's albums.
  23. Which was written by neither Percy Faith nor Carlos Santana. Nice paychecks for Peter Green and the estate of Gabor Szabo. Do we blame them? I also report to work every day, as I have for decades on end. I really like the part where they pay me every two weeks, and reasonably enjoy my work, even though I will have no more career breakthroughs coming. Also, rock artists can still be a great live experience long after they are not consistently pumping out meaningful new compositions. This is one of the most moving musical experiences for me (especially the DVD), recorded (ca. 1999) 15 years after I had ceased to much care about new Springsteen studio albums (I do like 'Lucky Town'). And part of the thrill of it was BECAUSE they were decades into the journey. This concert convinced me that being 50 would be just fine. A Neil Young concert I attended in the mid-2000's convinced me that being 60 would be just fine. There's value in that, at least for me.
