  1. So, you've got me intrigued, who else is on this album with Sir Charles & Percy? And I love Roy Haynes!
  2. Here Tis has '+1', guess I'll find out how much I'll pay for just a little more of Lou & Grant & Babyface...
  3. That's why the CFL season isn't any longer!
  4. ...and you still don't need the Weathermen to know which way the wind blows!
  5. The whole Newborn family were deeply intwined in Memphis music, some of the early Stax guys worked with Phineas Sr.
  6. So, this is going to be some 'inside' music...?
  7. And didn't Buddy DeFranco do an album under L. Feather's auspecies on Bass clarinet with the then current Jazz Messengers? I think I own this...or maybe it was a dream?
  8. "It's not like the man was Herman Lubinsky or something." RIP, he helped Monk get to where he could get some $.
  9. Love what Bennie Maupin did on bass clarinte in an ensemble role on Bitches Brew...
  10. Sam Rivers did some interesting things with his bass clarinet before someone stole it.
  11. Can't argue with that, wouldn't want to.
  12. Glyn Johns, Sound Man. Enjoyable but not very insightful on the people or very detailed on the technical end. Claims he was the first UK engineer to make the transition to producer. Some interesting observations on the many musicians and industry people he's met. Not afraid to say he doesn't like someone. I think he can afford to be candid.
  13. What?! You mean Tuesday is no longer my good news day? When I worked in record stores that was how you knew a customer was really hardcore, if they knew Tues was new release day (in north America).
  14. Love this, it's on one o' them X,000 Volts of Stax things I have, no doubt partially 'cause I been there, felt that... Your`re right, this one is from the "3000 Volts of Stax" compilation and there is another great alternative take featured on V.A "Don`t disturb my Soul - Gospel of Chalice" (Ace) released in1991.....and agreed, this recording never fails to move me....a close second from the same source IMO is "Assassination"... The Evans/King version of "I Can't Win" from Ry Cooder's Bop Til You Drop has been known to have a similar effect on me.
  15. Yes and no, or maybe that should be no and yes - I lived there (Saskatoon) a long time ago and still have friends and family there and visit as often as possible, but I was born here in the States and am not a dual citizen, unfortunately.
  16. He did a New Years best of on TV a few years back that I saw by chance and it was quite nice. i should seek it out online, but usually I forget.
  17. spot on.......suprisingly this was not already featured earlier....... That's not surreal, that's Saskatchewan! most likely both....... Well yeah, no doubt, but still - that's just Saskatchewan.

  21. I LOVE Elvis's version of "Don't Think Twice"! Thanks for pointing that out. Señor is one my favorite Dylan tunes of all time. What can I say? You're...well, just wrong. To be honest, it's hard to really know what the Beatles and others were thinking in terms of where they wanted to go. However, if their recordings are any indication, Dylan was a critically important influence. In my opinion, his influence was almost universally a great thing. I think the Beatles and the Stones became MUCH more interesting after Dylan's innovations became apparent. Glad you liked Don't Think Twice, how 'bout Tomorrow is a Long Time? Bob's reputed to have said it was his favorite, but then he's been known to say a lot of things, e.g. he once said the Smokey Robinson was "America's greatest living poet" and then when asked about that later he said 'no, what was I thinking, I meant Rambeau' (who's neither living nor American, so I guess he just didn't want to talk about it). On the broader issue of Bob's influence and whether that was a good thing - there's good ambivalent and BS ambivalent, Like Justice Stevens I can't define it but I know it when I see/hear it.
  22. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaSalle_%28automobile%29 I got this immediately, but I came from a very car-conscious family. Except for my younger brother, perhaps the only demographically cliched thing about us - used to be ever counter/alternative guys were car-conscious, but more recently very definitely not so.
