  5. I didn´t have the time to listen to this wonderful compilation as much as it deserved. And I haven´t followed the continous discussion on it. But since the answers have been revealed, I´ll keep it near my stereo for some time, with a print of the discussion and the answers threads. Good opportunity to learn a lot more about big bands and swing-to-bop music! Thanks again, Milan!

  7. That one´s frequently stuck in my head as well. I never improvised over it (in fact I´ve never improvised over any song, as I´m not a musician ), but everytime I hear Charlie Parker playing it, I keep whistling it for quite a few days!

Joya Sherrill, v; Cootie Williams, t (cd tracks 1, 4, 5, 7, 10, 11); Johnny Hodges, as (1, 2, 7, 10); Paul Gonsalves, ts (4, 7, 10); Ernie Harper, p; John Lamb, b; Sam Woodyard, d. Duke Ellington supervising, in the control room for the whole session.

  19. AFAIK, it will include six previously unissued alternates and one selection that was never issued in any form. Only studio dates. Only big band dates, except for a bunch of sextet sides. And Chris Albertson is writing the liner notes for this set!

  23. Thanks, Bev! I know Paul Bley, though not very deeply. So far I only have "Hommage to Carla" & "The life of a trio: Sunday" with Giuffre/Swallow. And as a sideman, "Sonny meets Hawk" and (I´m talking by memory) he also plays on some tracks of "Mingus revisited", doesn´t he?
