With my recent acquisitions, I´m in doubt about picking this box-set. There´s too much duplication in my Ellington collection. I shoud sit down calmly, peruse a good discography and compare it to my collection. It will take some time, I´m afraid...
It was the same for me, Tom, but with cduniverse.com. This item was backordered for a couple of months, and finally I got tired and didn´t postpone the order anymore.
Please, report on this one when you listen to it. How´s the sound? The only transcriptions I have from the Standard label (the Tatum released on Storyville), sound pretty good!

I think he has shown (once again) as the reasonable guy I thought (and still think) he was.
I should recognize that I was negatively surprised at first, when I came back home on Sunday evening and read about all this fuss. My initial posts at organissimo and at AAJ were critical (and somehow caustic), influenced by the momentary state of mind.
Now things have calmed down, I hope!
Sad news! Another jazz musician has passed.
Wasn´t he one of the pianists in the Volume 1 and Volume 2 Miles Davis Blue Notes alongside Horace Silver? These are among my favorite early Miles discs!
BTW: AMG only lists one disc by Gil Coggins as a leader: GIL´S MOOD
