  1. I couldn't make it. But yesterday night I saw Kenyatta Beasley's band at UpOver Jazz Cafe on Flatbush. Casey Benjamin, Robert Glasper, Richie Goods & Lee Parson. The guy who really stood out was Casey Benjamin on alto sax. Holy smokes, he was good that night. Tonight at 8pm - Andrew Lamb at Nyuorican Poets Cafe ! ! !

  4. There's something almost criminally wrong here ... 4. Walt Dickerson [ 4 ] [10.53%]
  5. Tod, you have a virtual postcard waiting for you HERE!
  6. Peter, you might want to get help at the catraxx forum. Those guys were pretty helpful when I had questions.
  7. Most of the time you have to enter the info yourself, but I prefer it that way, actually. However, some albums that you log into Catraxx via CDDB do contain discographical info, although, like I said, I prefer to do it myself. CDDB comes handy because it gives you track titles and playing times. CDDB is designed for cds, but there's also an additional program designed for Catraxx to import track listings of your lps. Pretty handy. The potenital of Catraxx is almost infinite. For instance,I know that musician I have on most albums in my collection is Paul Chambers. I have him on 72 albums. Next is Lee Morgan. He's on 50 albums. Etc, etc. Like I said, you'll have to spend time with it, and for some people it would mean years, depending on the size of the collections.
  8. Overpriced and overhyped. You're basically buying a brand, like Benz. Their clock radio is ok, but not worth even 1/4 of the asking price.
  9. Vanya, the answer to your questions is - CATRAXX http://www.fnprg.com/catraxx/catraxx.html It's all that and more. It's tremendous actually, if you don't mind spending the time with it.
  10. I think it might sound better than the RVGs...
  11. Second the Cambridge Audio rec. Affordable and good. DON'T BUY BOSE
  12. Chris, I'm sure you are aware of the 1959 Bessie biography by Paul Oliver. Was that the 1st book dedicated to her? What do you think of it?
  13. Hew was a pretty good writer. I have read his liner notes on a few records and they're always witty and very-well written. Didn't I read somewhere that Frank Kofsky and he have an altercation in the press sometime in the 60s? Do you know what that was about? The communist and the VOA jazz director. 'nuff said.
  14. Willis Conover He taught more people about jazz than anyone else. Save for Pops maybe.
  15. Just checked my cattrax database. I bought more than 400 cds from both Tower stores in NY since 1999. I guess this news is a blessing in disguise.
  16. Moanin', baby.
  17. Be strong and have your wife by your side! My sincere condolences.
  18. Damn it; I forgot that part! Duuuuh.
  19. In a second I shall stick this frozen fish onto my penis for you, America! Yeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaw
  20. Check eBay completed auctions. Price Guides, like the formerly venerable Goldmine, are becoming less and less important, imo.
  21. I'm thinking of going tomorrow night for the 1st set. Anyone else interested?
  22. Bummer. I was interested in it as well...
